The 2026 Nissan LEAF 75kWh (19-inch wheels) packs 259 miles of EPA range, 150 kW fast charging and a 70 kWh battery, and with do-not-drive recall exposure on this make/year, run the VIN before you read the price.

Score read

A 70/100 makes this worth comparing, not chasing. Software and driver-assist score is 100/100, but range and efficiency score is only 43/100. Reddit threads cluster around build quality and software tech — verify both against the service records. Treat missing repair records as a price problem, not a footnote.

Price context

Used examples are running around $34,893. Treat that as a budgeting floor, not a final price; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase or Edmunds True Market Value for this exact trim before negotiating.

Gotchas

  • Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.

Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.

  • Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (43/100).

Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 259-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

The Financing Room · What Actually Happens

Dealers make ~$3,575 on the average car loan.

After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.

01 · Without pre-approval
Rate markup

78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB

With pre-approval ↓
Rate is already locked

Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.

"What's your monthly budget?"

Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg

Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.

GAP + extended warranty upsell

You can shop it or skip it

Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.

The battery does not charge. Warning lights activated to check EV system. This first occurred about two months ago. Dash lights spontaneously resolved, but MIL light has remained on in Nissan App since that time. Dealership service initially said to return with vehicle when dash light and message reappeared. Potential garage/house or parking lot fire as there exist reports of 2026 LEAFs spontaneously combusting in North America. Vehicle is currently at Nissan dealership service department for inspection and diagnosis.

"I became a Nissan Leaf owner (newbie in EV world) Bought it 6500 EUR in East Europe (they actually maintain very high prices compared to US) it has 8 bars and 109 kms range after a full charge (ECO MODE) in real life it would be about 90kms range, just the perfect daily commuter and so cute car! Happy to be part of this family! Cheers! 😍🚙🌿♻️"

(I searched, but couldn't find anything relevant). > > > Click to expand... Yes, I am experiencing and diagnosing the same issue in my ZE1. I found that when I put pressure on the rear hatch (while wife is driving), the noise will stop. I have replaced both rear hatch gas struts and this has made the noise considerably better, but still not 100% resolved. I have pushed new grease into both ball-joint ends of the gas struts and it helped further, but I still occasionally get a squeak. Probably only 10% of the time it used to. I hope this helps you direct your diagnostic efforts, and if you find a conclusive cause please do report back First I removed the chrome license frame from the rear plate. That got rid of the rattle, but still had the squeak/groan. It seemed to be caused by the tailgate bumpers rubbing against the body, so I got two felt furniture leg pads (~3/16" thick) and stuck them to the body on each side where the door bumpers meet."

"Anyways, I'm just saying the 12v battery often goes obscurely bad on the leaf, is often the culprit of weird stuff happening and is very easily tested, often for free and no effort. It would definately be the very first thing I would try to rule out completely. You may end up right. Who knows JoinedSep 21, 2019Messages107LocationSierra foothills - Northern Calif Surprise, surprise! All the screens are back where they were - including the digital speedometer! "It seems that there should be a screw adjustment for the rubber stops, but I couldn't improve anything by twisting the rubber stops in their mounting holes. (had done the numberplate already though Thanks so much for posting that; I can't believe I didn't think of it. Going to mod those on mine today. I managed to extend the rubber protrusions from the tailgate on mine by twisting them anti-clockwise. I think this will provide the additional pressure required to resolve the noise, however if not then I will try padding them out like above. Meanwhile I thought I'd post this quick before and after shot to help illustrate for any other interested readers in the future Here's the before & after. All I've done is rotate the rubber bumper 360 degrees anti-clockwise and that has caused it to extend out from the tailgate due to it's threaded shape."

"2022 Nissan Leaf Recall R25C8 — Battery Defect, Software “Fix,” and My Buyback Process (Templates Included) I’m sharing this in case it helps other Leaf owners dealing with Recall 25V655 / Nissan Campaign R25C8. I own a 2022 Nissan Leaf in a state with weak lemon laws. The new recall says the battery may develop excessive lithium deposits inside the cells, which increases resistance and can lead to rapid heating during Level 3 charging. Nissan’s instructions say not to use Level 3 charging at all until the “remedy” is done. However, Nissan’s own recall documents confirm the remedy is software only. It doesn’t repair the defective battery cells. The software simply monitors for “state of charge fluctuation” and may disable the vehicle from restarting or recharging if it detects the defect beginning to manifest. That's not a repair and doesn't fix the underlying issue, just potentially leaves you stranded when the car refuses to charge or restart. Since this fundamentally affects the car’s usefulness, I filed a case with Nissan requesting a repurchase or replacement. I’ve also filed an NHTSA complaint and will file with BBB Autoline if Nissan denies the request. I wanted to share some templates and scripts if anyone else is frustrated with Nissan here. **NHTSA Complaint:** The high-voltage battery on my 2022 Nissan Leaf is subject to Recall 25V655. The recall notice states that the battery cells can develop excessive lithium deposits, which increases electrical resistance and can cause rapid battery heating during Level 3 fast charging. This (or something similar) happens when the 12v battery is disconnected. Now I'm not sure if there's a low voltage threshold that could make that happen too. Anyways, I suggest you at least get your 12v battery properly tested. Some shops even do this for free. More info here if you end up needing a replacement, and as @Stanton said, there are a thousand million hundreds other threads about the 12V battery on the LEAF"

"JoinedSep 21, 2019Messages107LocationSierra foothills - Northern Calif I have not made any changes in my controls, but suddenly the central screen has many changes, and the digital speedometer on the driver's screen has gone away. I have checked every setting, but it is nowhere to be found. Why (and how?) would this have been deleted?
