Not always. A low score flags items to verify before buying — and often signals stronger value, since heavier discounts already price the risk in. See TrimIndex’s pre-purchase inspection →

Buyer brief · 305 words

The 2026 Volvo EX40 Twin has 260 miles of EPA range, 200 kW fast charging and a 64 kWh battery, and the score gets it into the conversation; battery and service records decide whether to make an offer.

Score read

A 70/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. The useful split is build quality score at 97/100 versus range and efficiency score at 37/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite software tech and owner satisfaction as recurring problems. If the seller cannot show recall completion, price that risk or move on.

Price context

This trim started from $56,900 new. Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.

Gotchas

  • Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.

Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.

  • Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (37/100).

Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.

  • Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.

Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 260-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

The Financing Room · What Actually Happens

Dealers make ~$3,575 on the average car loan.

After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.

"Volvo one pedal drive is good! Switching from a Tesla Model 3. Landed on the Volvo EX40, after testing Kia EV6, BYD Sealion and Skoda Enyaq Just sharing recent test driving and buying experience, since I occasionally find posts like this helpful when Googling. We've been driving a Tesla Model 3 for the last 4 years, and we've been wanting something a bit spacious, with less small annoyances. With the warranty expiring, and Musk is doing his best to be repulsive, this seemed like a good time to look for a new ride. Initially I narrowed down the choices of mid size AWD SUV to three cars of roughly similar size and pricing: Kia EV6, BYD Sealion 7 and Skoda Enyaq, and scheduled a test drive for all of them. All of them seemed like pretty nice cars with their own strengths * EV6 had great physical controls for damn near everything, nice and comfortable ride * Sealion 7 had a supremely comfortable and quality feel interior, but the driving assists/warnings were obnoxious * Enyaq was boring in a good way. Comfortable ride, big trunk, intuitive and reliable door handle design * All of them also had nice road noise isolation and decent suspension, much better than Tesla at least But ultimately after the test drives, both me and my wife realized this actually boils down to one pedal driving for us. We've gotten so used to it over the last four years, that anything else feels wrong and kind of uncontrolled at this point. Both the Sealion and Enyaq had very weak regen braking even at the maximum setting, so to quote my wife "I hate driving this!" I know OPD isn't everyone's cup of tea, but at least for me it makes a massive difference for the sense of control and feel for the movement of the car, so I'm not sure I want to get used to creeping with the brake and switching pedals again. This is why the EV6 felt like the only convincing option out of the three. Unfortunately even with the EV6, you need to re-enable the maximum regen braking every drive, and it doesn't seem to work when reversing. Those didn't necessarily feel like dealbreakers, but prompted me to re-check other options once more, before committing. I had previously looked at the Volvo EX40 and I definitely like the look and practicality of it, but dismissed it since the infotainment system seemed very dated in a bad way. However, since that felt like the only concern, and the car has proper one pedal driving, I booked a test drive for it as well. After driving, we both agreed it easily felt the best to drive, primarily because the one pedal drive feel was the most familiar. The system stays on and works like you'd expect for reverse too. The screen was surprisingly a non-issue. Not as pretty and intuitive as Tesla, but quick and clear enough. Navigation with seemingly "stock" Google Maps was more useful than the more awkward custom stuff in the other cars, and the driver instrument cluster was nice, and not partially obscured by the wheel like in EV6 for our driving positions. "EVs Take 64.9% Share In Sweden - Volvo EX60 Finally Debuts The first quarter of 2026 saw plugin EVs take 64.9% share in Sweden, up from 58.0% in Q1 2025. BEV share grew strongly year on year (YoY), while PHEV share dipped slightly. Overall Q1 auto volume was 61,960 units, down some 2% YoY. The Volvo EX40 was the best-selling BEV in Q1. EVs Take 64.9% Share In Sweden 2026 Q1 auto sales saw combined plugin EVs take 64.9% share in Sweden, with full electrics (BEVs) at 40.7% and plugin hybrids (PHEVs) at 24.1%. These figures compare YoY against 58.0% combined, 33.0% BEVs and 25.0% PHEVs. In volume terms, BEVs were up 21% YoY, whilst PHEVs were down by 6%. The new targeted BEV incentive scheme (open to below-average-income households in rural areas) came into effect in Q1 and helped give BEVs a decent boost. This allowed BEVs to overcome their typical Q1 dip in market share (see chart below), instead remaining roughly level compared to Q4 last year. Combustion-only vehicle market share fell YoY from 29.8% to 25.0% largely due to petrol and ethanol declines. EVs Take 64.9% Share In Sweden Best-Selling BEV Models The Volvo EX40 was yet again Sweden’s top seller in Q1, its third consecutive quarter in the top spot. The Tesla Model Y came second, ahead of the Volvo EX30 in third. EVs Take 64.9% Share In SwedenThe Volkswagen ID.7 was squeezed out of the top 3 for the first time since Q3 2024. Let’s wait to see if this is anomalous, or a lasting trend. Big climbers were the Kia EV5, which debuted modestly back in November, and really stepped up in Q1, climbing impressively to 8th spot. Likewise its sibling the Kia PV3 minivan (also a November debut) climbed to just inside the top 20 (19th). Rounding out the top 20, the BMW iX3 is now returning to volume, though it is now a completely different vehicle, on a totally redesigned (and now very efficient) platform. There were several Q1 debutants on the Swedish market. The Volvo EX60 finally arrived, after several years of delay, with 107 units registered in Q1, around half of which were likely customer cars. The arrival of the EX60 is extremely significant because the Volvo XC60 has typically been inside Sweden’s overall top three for many years, and has been Sweden’s best selling PHEV for the past 5 years straight. Now that the EX60 BEV version is finally available, and with a totally refreshed interior and exterior design compared to the existing “old-look” PHEV XC60 (and not much more expensive than the latter) the EX60 should contribute to a measurable shift in Sweden’s overall powertrain share. Especially since the BEV is rather capable, with 611-810 km of WLTP range (depending on battery size), and 10-80% top ups in 16-19 minutes. Another debutant, with 106 units in Q1, was the new Toyota C-HR+ BEV. This is positioned below its BZ4X sibling on pricing, and thus should help significantly boost Toyota’s BEV sales. The C-HR model line is one of Toyota’s most established and best-sellers wor"
