2025 Volvo EX90 Twin Motor (20 and 22-inch wheels): the score gets it into the conversation; battery and service records decide whether to make an offer.
Score read
A 66/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. Do not let the composite hide this split: software and driver-assist score is 100/100, while owner feedback score is 47/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite owner satisfaction and software tech as recurring problems. Documented completion matters more than the recall count itself.
Price context
This trim started from $79,995 new. Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.
Who this is for

- ⏱ Daily commuter ≤50 mi/day, predictable charging
- ↦ Road tripper Long trips, needs DC fast network
✗ Avoid if you are a
- $ Bargain hunter Best TCO, reliability + low depreciation
Gotchas
- Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.
Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.
- Verify Owner feedback is the part to read carefully (47/100).
Mitigation Read the complaint themes and ask whether this VIN has already had those issues repaired.
- Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.
Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 300-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Read the complaint themes, not just the count, and ask the seller whether those issues have shown up on this VIN.
VIN status first This model has 3 NHTSA recall records. The exact VIN lookup decides whether the car in front of you is clear.
Complaint context This scan found 48 NHTSA complaint records (240 per 10K VINs, high — material safety/build concern). Read the themes below before treating the raw count as the verdict.

Dealers make ~$18,289 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
That's 15 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

While driving on I-5 north by Castaic (exit 176A) the car displayed "electric system temporarily limited" then "critical electric fault" at which time it rapidly decelerated while on the freeway. The hazard lights were pressed but did not work. There was no shoulder and cars nearly rear ended our vehicle, with our family of 4 (including 2 kids) inside. We were able to navigate the vehicle to a small shoulder at the freeway exit and called CHP for support to make sure our safety while we seemed roadside assistance. Volvo roadside assistance contacted a tow truck and walked us through a "hard reset" of the vehicle. After about 15 minutes we were able to drive the car with a CHP escort off the freeway ramp to a nearby parking lot. The "electrical system temporarily limited" fault remained. Our car was towed to the nearest dealership where the fault was observed. At this point (8 calendar days later) no fix has been identified. This vehicle has had repeated electrical system faults since we leased in on 9/5/25 and has been serviced 3 previous times. This was the first time it stopped while driving.

On [XXX] around [XXX], while driving on [XXX] fro Santa Paula to Ojai, my car displayed a message on the dash that said "critical brake fault, pull over safely." When I applied the brakes they did not respond. I came to a stop only when the car lost momentum. When I exited the car to investigate, I shut the driver's door and was locked out. On three occasions my car has initiated automatic emergency braking while I was driving across the same grated bridge deck (Montlake Bridge in Seattle). In each instance there was no potential for collision and my car slammed on brakes and jammed on my seatbelt with varying levels of discomfort and terror. This also created a safety risk because I could have been rear ended as there was so reason to suddenly stop and certainly was shocked to have my car brake urgently and restrain me suddenly with seatbelt. My best guess is that this related to boats traveling under the bridge as this happened three times during higher boat traffic. I reported incident to Volvo and was told a case would be opened and that I would be contacted. I was not contacted. I scheduled a service appointment to address this and other issues with the EX90 that are unrelated but for the third time my appointment was cancelled as the Volvo dealership is refusing to service the ex90s they have been selling.

My Volvo EX90 has recurring software reliability problems affecting safety-related detection systems and hands-free operation features. These failures involve inconsistent or incorrect detection of vehicles and pedestrians and unpredictable loss of hands-free phone functionality. These issues create increased distraction and reduce confidence in driver-assistance safety features.

Ongoing Software Issues From shortly after delivery through now, the vehicle experiences frequent and recurring warning messages and system failures, including but not limited to: Suspension system warnings Driver assistance and self-driving feature failures One-pedal driving malfunctions Parking camera and sensor errors Other system warnings that appear to be software-related While the vehicle was often still technically drivable, these issues regularly caused the car to operate at reduced functionality, with key safety and convenience features disabled. Although software updates have reduced the frequency of these issues, they still occur intermittently and often require a vehicle reset or time to resolve. Because of these persistent and unpredictable warnings, my family and I have avoided taking this vehicle on long trips out of concern that the car may become unsafe or inoperable while traveling. The vehicle was brought in for service in December 2024 in an attempt to address these software-related issues; however, the service did not resolve the problem at that time. Hardware Failure #1 – GHCA In January 2025, the vehicle experienced a failure of the GHCA component, rendering the all-electric vehicle unable to charge. This occurred shortly after purchase. Service appointment booked: January 27, 2025 Vehicle in shop: aprox 30 days The vehicle was out of service for approximately one full month. During this time, I shared my experience on Reddit due to the severity of the issue and the vehicle’s newness. That post received over 350,000 views, and numerous Volvo EX90 owners reported experiencing the same GHCA failure—many stating they had required multiple replacements of the same component. This strongly suggests a widespread defect rather than an isolated incident. Hardware Failure #2 – GHCA (Repeat Failure) On February 3, 2026, the GHCA failed again, and the vehicle was returned to the dealership for service with no ETA on a fix.

When leaving a downtown parking garage, I noted the following alert on the driver's screen: "Steering fault - Drive with caution. Book a service." The driver's screen also showed that there was a driver support system fault and that the lane keeping aid was not available. The center stack stated the following: "1 serious issue detected. Steering fault Drive with caution. Book a service." At the time that the fault came up, the car had been driven out of its parking spot (by turning left) approximately 50 feet. I had then stopped the car to talk to a friend. When I got back into the car, I noted the fault message on the driver's screen when I went to back the car up so that I could leave the parking garage. During my trip from downtown to the dealership, I did not note anything unusual other than the fact that the fault messages were displayed. The messages were displayed when I arrived at the dealership and stayed displayed until I exited the car. When I got back in the car to turn it on, the error messages had disappeared.

The vehicle supports a feature to reset the display computer by holding the play/pause button for approximately 45 seconds. When executed the center console display as well as the speedometer display over the steering wheel reset and go blank for up to 1 minute. The safety issue is that this function can be performed while the vehicle is in motion. This leaves the speedometer inoperable until the reset completes. This poses an extreme safety hazard as the driver has no way to assess current speed. I'm able to reproduce this on the latest OTA software update 1.3.18.

The vehicle has exhibited unexpected braking without any apparent external trigger, posing a safety risk. Most troubling, we have now had a third incident of the seatbelt pre-tensioning unexpectedly and forcefully, which caused my wife several days of lower abdominal discomfort. The most recent episode happened while parking at low speed. These experiences have undermined our trust in the vehicle’s safety systems.

While driving the car the car will suddenly stop working, it will be unable to accelerate. When this happens a multitude of alerts display on the screen. The car is very dangerous to drive and I’m concerned someone may die if this car is not recalled for safety.

My car will not charge at my home power charger or any L1 or L2 AC based power system. It will only charge at higher price fast DC chargers which are limited and not at my house. This is apparently a commonly known flaw with this vehicle that has not been addressed and I am now waiting more than 20 days for a replacement part to be ready.

Was given a 'critical brake fault' warning on the dashboard. Car defaulted into neutral and I was not able to put it park, drive, reverse or even turn off the car (had to keep my foot on the brake until someone could help me push it onto a flat surface). Could not open the car doors from the outside, no resets would work, had to be towed to dealership. Car was left "running" at the dealership for over 24 hours.

The onboard charger (GHCA) has now failed to charge on any Level 2 (the most common kind) charger. The first time it failed was on December 15, 2025 and was replaced under warranty and released back to me on December 31, 2025. Then on February 4, 2026, it failed to charge on a Level 2 charger and was confirmed to have a second onboard charger failure. (Both failures confirmed by Volvo technicians.) Not being able to charge presents safety issues of being stranded and leaving the car completely in-operational. In addition to the GHCA failure, the dash that sits on top of the steering wheel has gone black/dark twice in the last 2 weeks. while driving, with no known reason. That dash houses the speedometer, the battery percentage indicator, my gear shifting indicators as well as other ancillary items such as a map and speed limit signs.

The GHCA failed while AC charging at home, and the vehicle made loud banging noises. AC charging is no longer possible, and a replacement part is still backordered with no ETA over three months later. A corporate case has been filed with Volvo and they are effectively unresponsive, only emailing me once a few weeks after the case was created, saying that they would promptly reply to any of my responses, but have not replied for almost a month after my immediate response.

The Grid to High Voltage Converter A (GHCA) is a critical, often failing, component in 2025+ Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 electric vehicles that converts AC grid power to high-voltage DC for the battery has failed 5 times in my car with no fix from Volvo in the foreseeable future. There are some reports on reddit/ex90 and other owner forums that these failures can cause unsafe voltages and have blown up home chargers. It seems like it is getting to the point where they need to be forced to issue a recall for this part and compensate owners.

While Level 2 charging at home from a NEMA 14-50 receptacle using the Volvo-supplied cable/adapter, charging stopped unexpectedly accompanied by a loud thunk. The central computer restarted and presented a profile setup routine as if the car was new. Stored settings were not retained. Repeated attempts to re-initiate charging resulted in ‘Charging fault’ notifications on the instrument panel and a solid red light on the charging port indicator. The car can no longer charge with AC power, but still charges with Level 3 DC equipment. Also, the car software doesn’t seem to recognize that there is a problem with the vehicle. It shows the status as ‘everything is OK’.

I am writing to file a formal safety complaint regarding my Volvo EX90, which experienced a complete and dangerous shutdown while driving on a LA freeway on Christmas Day. While traveling at freeway speed, the vehicle suddenly lost power and displayed a warning stating “Critical Electrical Fault.” The car shut down in the middle of active traffic. Two vehicles narrowly avoided colliding with us, and we were extremely fortunate to be able to turn the car back on, maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder of the road before being struck. The vehicle had to be towed from the shoulder of the freeway. This incident posed a serious risk of severe injury or death, not only to my passengers but also to other motorists. This was not an isolated incident. This is the second time this vehicle has experienced a sudden shutdown. The first incident involved a warning reading “Critical Propulsion Fault,” which also resulted in loss of vehicle function. Following the Christmas Day incident, the vehicle has been at an authorized Volvo dealership for over three weeks. As of today, Volvo has been unable to identify the root cause or provide a clear explanation or repair. The uncertainty surrounding the failure of a brand-new vehicle (1,754 Miles) further reinforces the seriousness of this defect. A vehicle that can unexpectedly lose all power at freeway speeds is fundamentally unsafe. Based on my experience, I believe the Volvo EX90 presents a significant safety defect, and I am deeply concerned that these vehicles continue to be sold and driven on public roads. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter to determine whether a broader defect or pattern exists and to take appropriate action to protect the public.

I have been in multiple situation where my car is unable to charge from my home charger, and the issue is always same which is the need of GHCA replacement. Right now, GHCA for EX90 is in national back order with unknown ETA

Please note this is an all electric SUV. On Saturday 6th December, I unplugged the car from the A/C charger after it had finished charging to 90% in my garage and there was a very loud bang heard from under the car. The dashboard then reported there is a fault with the car and it cannot charge. Took the car to the dealer same day and they suspected it was a failed GHCA part (AC to DC converter). They ordered a replacement and fitted it on 20th December but the car still will not charge on A/C. It still charges on DC and the dealer is using that to keep it powered. I received a call from the dealer today (1/2/26) to say that Volvo corporate needs to perform a detailed investigation as to what has caused the car to stop charging on AC. The dealer will not let me have the car back as they are concerned about the safety of the car and have been without it for approaching one month now. With that in mind and the many reports on social media of similar failures as well as multiple months of having faulty cars, it appears this is a major problem that should be subject to a recall. An example of posts can be seen here: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Charging failure. GHCA failure.

The car triggered a "charging fault" while charging on a trip and will no longer charge on a level-2/AC charger. I was lucky to have enough charge to make it to a DC Fast charger and continue my trip. If I had not been so close to an alternative DC Fast charger this could have left me stranded.

While driving, my car suddenly displayed the "Driver Support System Fault" icon (Picture 1). At that time, the only issue was the fault icon. I still had full navigation, lane departure warning and 360 camera functionality when I backed into my parking spot. The car was locked with my key card. I returned to 15 to 20 minutes later. The Driver Support System Fault Icon was lit in addition to the lane departure unavailability icon (Picture 2). The following functions and/or features did not work: - Lane Departure - 360 Camera - Front Camera - Tracking Lines for the Rear Camera - Park Sensor audible alerts (Forward or Backup) - Ambient Temperature (Reads "0 degrees Celsius") - Odometer in the central stack (Reads "-- km") - HVAC Functionality - Heated Seats - Heated Steering Wheel - Bluetooth - Wi-Fi - Google Assistant - Navigation, including map being frozen in one position - Glovebox access - Connectivity with Internet or Volvo App - Volume control for the radio did not function. - 4-way hazard button greyed out and non-functional on center stack Attempted reset/reboot of the Infotainment System did not resolve the issue and the car was taken to the local Volvo dealer. Summary of Pictures attached: Pic 3 - Quick Controls - Shows glove box, 4-way hazard icon and other control icons greyed out Pic 4 - Status - States "Everything is OK", but tire pressure button is not available and Total distance reads "--km". Additionally, as shown in Picture 3, the 4-way hazard icon is greyed out. Pic 5 - Similar shot as Picture 2 - Shows Driver Support System Fault and no Lane Departure Pic 6 - Car is in reverse. Shows rear back up camera without guidance lines. Does not show 360 camera. Pic 7 - HVAC Climate is off and cannot turn on. All controls were greyed out. I pressed "Manual" and "Auto" with no change. Pic 8 - Heated seats and heated steering wheel would not turn on even when I pressed the buttons.

I experienced a serious safety issue with my 2025 Volvo EX90 around 1:15 PM on October 7, 2025. It was drizzling at the time. I had stopped in front of an ATM to deposit and withdraw money. After finishing, when I released the brake pedal to leave, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward on its own, much faster than normal creeping speed. I had to keep pressing the brake pedal to control the car. I used intermittent braking to steer it around and managed to park it safely. After shifting into Park (P), I restarted the vehicle’s system, but the issue did not go away. Only after I parked, locked the car, and came back later did it return to normal. I shared my experience on Reddit to see if other owners had similar incidents, and several reported the same issue. I am very concerned that this could happen again, as it poses a serious safety risk if it occurs in traffic or near pedestrians.

1. The passenger side daytime fog light occasionally fails to operate, which could be a safety concern in certain driving conditions. 2. The one-pedal drive feature automatically switches off, even though it is saved in my profile. This may present a hazard if I accelerate as if one-pedal drive is still active. 3. The blind spot warning system does not provide an audible alert, and it sometimes activates even when no vehicle is nearby. 4. The reverse warning system occasionally alerts when there are no obstacles behind, making it difficult to trust the warnings. This could be dangerous if a real obstacle is present and the alert is ignored. 5. The door handles can sometimes auto-lock while being held, which poses a risk of finger injury, especially to children. 6. The lane-keeping assist feature occasionally stops functioning unexpectedly, which could be dangerous if the driver is relying on this assistance. 7. The infotainment system’s microphone or speaker intermittently stops working, which is particularly risky if a phone call is ongoing through the system. I have had to manually change the mode while driving. 8. The car can sometimes be unlocked or driven simply by having a paired phone present, with no additional verification checks. This could be a security risk if someone gains access to my phone.

One pedal driving randomly turns off when starting the vehicle. This is a safety issue because we often don't notice its off until we're attempting to stop and taking your foot off the accelerator does not result in braking as expected.

The screen behind the steering wheel, which provides the car's speed, driver assist, warning lights, turn signals, and other driving information suddenly went blank. I was grateful that I was close to home and no longer on the interstate highway I had just exited. I drove home, reset the car, and the screen was back on. I was lucky. I could have been at the beginning on my drive, over a hundred miles from home and unable to easily exit the highway. The car is being towed today back to the dealer, again. This happened without warning. I was driving and the whole screen just went black.

The vehicle gear selector had reverse (R) selected and pressing the accelerator pedal caused the vehicle to drive forwards. This appears to have been a result of enabling the "one pedal drive" function from the infotainment display while the gear selector was already in reverse. The mismatch of selected / indicated direction vs the resulting direction is a safety issue

On [XXX] I purchased a brand new 2025 Volvo EX90 from Volvo Cars of North Miami. I’ve been having a number of software glitches since then, but the last incident put my life in direct danger. Yesterday, [XXX] I was driving [XXX] on [XXX] (a four-lane motorway) in Aventura with around 55MPH speed and 76% battery charge. While driving the steering wheel display went dark and at that point, I had no information about my speed or vehicle status typically displayed on the screen. Shortly after that outage the larger Volvo screen started to flicker and went dark. At that point I started to lose control and longer able to safely operate the vehicle. Approximately 30 seconds after the larger screen went dark the turning signals stopped working and I was exposed to a direct rear-end impact from oncoming vehicles. Finally, the vehicle itself lost power and I slowed down almost to a complete stop in the middle of the road while bracing for a direct impact. By grace of God, I was somehow able to use the vehicle inertia and pull over to the side of the road and call for help using my cellphone. The vehicle regained power without any intervention roughly about 10 minutes after that incident. After the smaller screen came back online it displayed a number of error messages including “Critical suspension fault. Stop safely”, “Parking brake cannot hold the car” and others. The vehicle is currently at the dealer awaiting inspection. My fear is that similar software outages could happen to others and they may not be as lucky as I was. If this incident would have happened on the highway at higher speed the outcome would have been fatal. My best guess is that the software updated while the vehicle was in motion and took out of operation all components - powertrain, steering, brakes, even the SOS call button. Please investigate and consider stop sale order, this truly was a close call and I simply got lucky. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Vehicle: 2024 Volvo EX90 VIN: [XXX] While driving on the highway, the entire digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen went completely black without warning. I could not see my speed, gear indicator, or use turn signals. This created an immediate and dangerous safety hazard, especially at high speed. The issue has occurred more than once, and despite taking the vehicle to the dealership, it has not been permanently resolved. I have filed a California Lemon Law claim with Volvo, and while Volvo acknowledged the defect and promised a buyback on March 18, 2025, they have failed to follow through or provide a resolution for over two weeks. I am submitting this complaint because the vehicle presents an active safety risk to myself and others, and I am concerned that this defect could result in a serious accident or injury if not addressed immediately. I also have video evidence of the blackout event. I am requesting that NHTSA open an investigation into this issue and hold the manufacturer accountable for failing to address a known safety defect in a timely manner. Our EX90 will not charge with our installed Tesla Universal L2 charger. When the charger is connected to the vehicle, it appears to start charging for 2-3 minutes, then I get a Charging Fault, the charger tries to re-initialize, and this loop continues, all while not charging the car. While the car is attempting to charge the EX90 dash shows Power at 1KW or less and the Amps only get up to 4 max, but mainly stay around 1. We contacted Tesla and they said it could be a bad adapter, so they sent a replacement unit. After this unit was installed, the same issues with charging the EX90 continues. We have charged other electric cars with the Tesla charger and it works perfectly, which leads me to believe this is a Volvo issue.

I was on the 101 freeway on January 20, 2025. I was driving on the far left lane, driving 72-65 miles an hour. The 2025 Volvo EX90 suddenly wouldn't accelerate more than 36 mph. A turtle error came on the screen. "Driving Performance Reduced Drive with Caution Book a Service" message displayed. Due to the car suddenly slowing down, we almost were read ended by a truck. I have kids in the car. This car had multiple faults. I had the car serviced on 01/20/25 and received it back from the dealer on 01/28/25. After, receiving the car two days later, now the SOS fault System light turned on, and now the Air Bag Fault Light is on. I do have a video of the incident on the freeway when the car started slowing down and the error messages.

On Saturday, [XXX], I drove from Woodbridge, VA to Fairfax, VA without any issues or error messages. Car was parked and locked for approximately 2 1/4 hours. When I came back out to the car and opened the door, the display behind the steering wheel stated "System communication fault. Pilot Assist deactivated. Find a place to stop and select P to park. When parked, the system will reset." I followed the directions as specified in my parking spot without any change. I moved the car to another location in the parking lot and repeated the process as directed without any change. I then got out of the car, locked the car, walked away from the car so that I was well out of range of the car, and then came back to the car. Despite these efforts, when I unlocked the car with my Key Tag and got back in, I was not able to get the message to clear. This resulted in the following issues: (a) No speedometer on the display or in the HUD; (b) No green graphic for the turn signals to indicate that they were working; (c) No display of information concerning cruise control, headlight function or windshield wiper settings; (d) Speed limit sign reading in HUD was stuck on 25 mph even though I was driving on roads with higher speed limits (e.g., [XXX] - 45 mph and [XXX] - 55 mph); and (e) Center stack stated "1 serious issue detected - Emergency Call System fault - book a service". The car was driven this way from Fairfax, VA to the Service Department of the Volvo dealership with no change and when I left, the cluster behind the steering wheel and the center stack were still in the same condition. At 164 miles on the odometer, I had the following issues: a. Received a message that the active high beam was not available and that it would be necessary to run the wipers to clean the front camera. I ran the wipers with washer fluid to clear the camera as instructed, but it did not clear the error message during the drive cycle; b. Car has Driver Support System Fault; and c. Car has Lane Keeping Aid Fault later in drive cycle which turned off the lane keeping aid function. Car was taken to dealership on 12/23/2024 and returned to me on 1/2/2025.

On November 28, 2025, my 2025 Volvo EX90 displayed a headlight warning message on the dashboard and the headlights failed to function properly while parked and after starting the engine. The defect temporarily resolved but recurred on December 5, 2025. A headlight defect that is not immediately apparent to the driver poses a serious safety risk before or during nighttime driving. The symptoms are consistent with NHTSA Safety Recall No. 25V-071 (Volvo internal reference R10298), which covers 2025 EX90 vehicles and involves unexpected headlight malfunction. I request that NHTSA investigate whether my vehicle's defect is related to Recall No. 25V-071 and whether the recall remedy has been properly implemented. If unrelated to Recall No. 25V-071, I request that NHTSA investigate this as a separate unreported safety defect. Other 2025 EX90 owners may be experiencing the same issue without reporting it. Volvo has contacted me directly on multiple occasions to schedule a central computer replacement on my vehicle. I understand this replacement is being offered to all 2025 EX90 owners. I request that NHTSA investigate whether this widespread hardware replacement is related to the safety defect I experienced and whether it should have been conducted as a formal safety recall. When brought in for repair on December 13, 2025, the service department advised parts were on indefinite backorder with no estimated delivery date. The vehicle remained at the service center for 47 days while Volvo was unable to supply the necessary parts. I request that NHTSA evaluate whether this represents an adequate response to a safety-critical defect.

Our 2025 Volvo EX90 was delivered with the seat track covers missing for the second row captain's chairs. It took a few weeks for the dealer to order them and install them. Looking at other active listings it appears most of the 6-seat Volvo EX90s being offered for sale is missing the seat track covers. I believe this is a saftey issue as without the cover the seat tracks and wiring is exposed and likely increases the risk of injury to 2nd row passengers (feet getting caught in seat tracks or debris getting into seat tracks preventing them from working properly, etc). I have reported this to my local Volvo dealership and Volvo Customer Support. I believe they should issue a recall to make sure the seat track covers are installed before delivery and that all already-sold EX90 missing the seat track covers gets them installed.

The instrument panel displays symbol for exterior lights malfunction and the vehicle status screen reports “1 serious issue detected – Headlight fault – Book a service”. The high and low beams appear to function normally on both sides of the car. The daytime running lights (white) around the headlight are only illuminated on the drivers side; the passenger side running lights are not working. This issue is intermittent. It first occurred within one day of ownership and has recurred about once per week since then. Service department stated in mid-December that this is a software issue that will be fixed in a future update, but there hasn’t been one and the issue still presents. Car software is currently version 1.4.15, and I believe has been since delivery.

Recall R10342 Power Operated Tailgate (POT) Drive Unit separation was not remedied by dealer prior to delivery of new vehicle. While performing research on this vehicle for another issue, NHTSA's stite provided an unrepaired recall on the vehicle in question. Upon further research, Volvo was aware of this issue and had already reported it to NHTSA prior to the date of vehicle delivery. See attached.

My Volvo Ex90 was promised to have LIDAR capability. I found out that Volvo broke their relationship with the company that was promised to supply this capability to our vehicle and I would like compensation. Do you know who I would contact?

"This is high! And I have the same car. Nearly all of the software issues on mine were fixed after the VCU upgrade. With the exception that it often thinks my heavy bookbag in The back seat is a person and an occasional issue with Spotify that is in their app, Not Volvo. It's the first year of a new model, every single car maker has issues the first year that they need to work out. Volvo has done well with correcting them. They all occured with the previous CEO. The old one is now back in place and literally everything has improved. Ps: they drive amazing! Get cpo."
"The two cars have entirely different customer bases. The R1S is targeting 30 year old Patagonia buyers, the Volvo is targeting old money and suburban soccer moms. So yeah, that is kinda the entire point. The EX90 is classy, the R1S is “flashy” inside (both good and bad). I will say that I think the Volvo will age better. The EX60 is a huge jump in design over the EX90 and is in your range but that is only two rows. You’ll probably be surprised by the Ioniq 9."
"The Real Issue With EVs Is That They're Just Not Big Enough For Americans Following up from my post here yesterday, I found more information supporting that one of the main reasons EV adoption isn't happening faster is because they're too small. I continue to firmly believe that you can't ask consumers to give up functionality of their existing vehicles — namely SUVs and trucks — to go electric. I understand that there are feeling about how we got into this situation to begin with and that a lot of people in this sub believe that vehicles are too large and should be made smaller. I agree with that in part, but we also need to be realistic about our present environment and acknowledge where consumers are at today. I know that many people believe the government should step in and limit vehicle size, but I don't believe that's a winning strategy to drive EV adoption. I personally think that consumers need more choice and that means bigger vehicles. Here are some key points from the article above: >“For a lot of people, that third row is the No. 1 reason for purchase,” says Jess Bala, director of global product planning at General Motors’ Cadillac brand, which is scheduled to reveal an electric Escalade IQ large SUV in August. “Those are often younger buyers who already are more interested in EVs.” > >Of course, it stands to reason that EVs expanding into new categories have an opportunity to reach new demographics that they haven’t been able to yet, like women and families. "I would really really advise you to fully investigate if Volvo has fixed all the issues with the software of the EX90. I have spoken many owners of the EX90 and they have had so many issues since the launch here in the Netherlands that they would not recommend it to buy one."
"I drove a Rivian R1S and a Volvo EX90 Both 3rd row EV’s with similar range. The Rivian Ruined me- the attention to detail, the quality feel, hands free driving, the speed, Storage Space, thoughtfulness of each area. I nearly expected the Volvo to have cigarette ash trays it felt so dated. I don’t know if it was the Swedish design or what but it felt dated inside. I still think the volvo look is really nice but Rivian won my heart. only issue is both of those cars were about 90k and I’m trying to be in the 60k world… so need to go smaller, ICE, or wait for the EV Highlander’s and Subarus Getaway."
"EV9 vs the Volvo EX90 Test drove the Kia Ev9 and the EX90 back to back. In my market they are currently priced almost identically so I presumed the EX90 would walk all over the EV9. Here's my first impressions. \\- Seat comfort: Tie. Volvo with its Nordico Seats feel firmer than the EV9 (GT Line seats). Both are good but the EV9 seems more flexible. \\- Buttons (or lack thereof): The EX90 infuriates me with having EVERYTHING on the center infotainment screen. WHO asked for the glove box button, climate controls, cruise control distance adjustment, seat heat/ventilation, to be on a tablet? I hoped I would deal with it but it's a near deal breaker for me. \\- The EX90 wins in terms of interior materials but in some areas the "premium" stuff only goes skin deep. The center console feels cheap and the EV9 has a more practical interior space (by far in my opinion). Dig around the cabin of the EX90 and you'll find cheap surfaces or things that look nice but once you look closer you can tell they're trying to save cost. \\- EX90 has a much more sophisticated suspension setup and you can tell. It feels more comfortable over rougher roads and potholes. \\- EX90 has better headlamps. The EV9 is not far behind in general but the "matrix" feature is more rudimentary with lower resolution. \\- EX90 sound system is better. Even the Bose stereo (arguably) \\- The reversing camera on the EX90 is atrocious. Low frame rate and overall poor video quality. It's got a significant fishbowl effect too. The EV9 backup camera is much more responsive and looks significantly better. \\-"
"One thing to consider is the dealerships and staff working there. I have an EV9 in the Orlando area and our Kia dealerships are run down and the staff fits what you would expect. Never owned a Volvo but its worth mentioning if you need to go back and get stuff worked on."
