The 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback is rated at 295 hp, 242 miles of EPA range and a 77 kWh battery, and a mid-pack composite means the records-and-test-drive call matters more than the headline.
Score read
A 65/100 makes this worth comparing, not chasing. Software and driver-assist score is 86/100, but range and efficiency score is only 38/100. Reddit threads cluster around software tech and owner satisfaction — verify both against the service records. Treat missing repair records as a price problem, not a footnote.
Price context
This trim started from $58,200 new. Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.

- $ Bargain hunter Best TCO, reliability + low depreciation
Gotchas
- Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.
Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.
- Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (38/100).
Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.
- Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.
Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 242-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.
VIN status first This model has 4 NHTSA recall records. The exact VIN lookup decides whether the car in front of you is clear.

Source & disclaimer
Dealers make ~$7,855 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
That's 22 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

As I began to move the car, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own. I attempted to brake before reaching the stop sign, but the car continued to gain speed. I estimate the vehicle reached approximately 60 mph. Within seconds, I collided with two vehicles and then a palm tree, sustaining a frontal impact. The entire incident occurred within approximately two to three seconds, during which the vehicle accelerated rapidly. Despite the collision, the airbags did not deploy, the seat belt did not lock, and neither the brake system warning nor the automatic braking system activated.

I have noticed on my Audi Q4 in about 4 different occasions that when I applied the brakes in situations like when traffic suddenly stops, the car and wheels shakes in an uneven, irregular way. Like I never expected before in my more than 45 years driving BMW, Mitsubishi, Mazda. Besides that also always noticed that my car reduces the speed almost to stop suddenly when there is a car already moved into the right or left lane (lanes next to mine) such sudden slow down from 50 mph to 0mph causes the cars behind me to stop suddenly and in several occasions almost ending in a rear ended crash against my car. I guess the radar identifies the traffic ahead next to my lane as a traffic “in front” of my car. Also, even when I am holding the steering wheel with one or 2 hands, frequently I received a message on the dashboard asking me to “Please take over steering” in yellow color, and if I don’t move the steering wheel side to side the yellow warning turns into a Red warning on the dashboard saying “Please take over steering” and if I don’t steer side to side, I get several hard pulls on my seat belt and a load alarm. The only way to avoid such progress of “warnings” is by steering my steering wheel side to side (zigzagging) on my lane. Who ever see me doing that would think I’m drunk or distracted regaining control of my car.

I was driving on the highway at a very slow speed (<5mph) due to heavy traffic. All of a sudden my car accelerated and hit the car in front of me twice because brakes would not apply. I found similar user reports online (links below). These cases suggest that my experience is not an isolated incident, which raises serious safety concerns. Pressing on brake but the car accelerated. Unable to stop, the vehicle pushed two other cars I to each other (they were parked, fortunately). Car came to rest and shit down. None of the safety features stopped the car from moving forward despite the brake pedal being pressed down all the way.

Component/System failed: Brake Servo part number 1eb-614-106-t Safety put at risk: Car was unable to move and completely locked up while in "Drive". If this had happened at a stop light or in traffic, it would have dangerously obstructed traffic, as the car could not be put into neutral or any other gear and could not move. Tow truck with dollies was required to move vehicle. A flatbed could not be used since the wheels were all locked up. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer's service department at the Audi dealer. This is a video of the warnings: [XXX] While stopped, but still in Drive mode, in a drive through lane of a fast food restaurant, the car's check engine light turned on, and the car shut off. When the the car Start/Stop button was pressed to turn the car back on, many warning messages were displayed on the dash, and the car refused to shift into Drive, Neutral, or Reverse. The service department at the dealer has had the car for over a month (Since [XXX]), and is unable to get the needed parts from Germany. On September 22, 2023, I was parking the car in a parking garage and I had my foot on the brake. I was about to shift to reverse when my car suddenly accelerated on its own into a cement wall. My foot had remained on the brake the entire time. There have been other similar incidents with Audi Q4 eTrons as reported on this page: [XXX] - Unknown what component or system failed or malfunctioned as the vehicle is currently at a collision center for repairs. - If others had been near by, serious injury or death could have occurred. As I was starting to make a right hand turn into a parking space in a parking garage, the car suddenly accelerated. I slammed on the brakes, but the stopping distance was not long enough. The car crashed into the steel cabling and concrete pole. The airbags deployed and the damage was significant enough to total the car. I sustained bruising and back muscle pain from the force of the impact. I only had the car for 11 days when this happened. I requested black box data for the car from the collision center and insurance company - neither would provide. I also reported the incident to my Audi dealer. Had there been a car in the parking spot next to me or directly in front of me, there would have been significant damage to other vehicles.

I purchased the Audi Q4 Etron new. The issue that I'm bring up is 'self-acceleration' I had the intial incident 10/2025 where the car self accelerated (Audi Case open) but can't reproduce which almost pin a kid between my vehicle and another vehicle. I was able to react quickly to prevent a death. Second time 'self-acceleration" was on 3/27/25. My son pulling into garage with my sitting next to him, the car self accelerated after coming to complete stop, jumped a pakring block and crashed into my garage wall. Dealer had the car for 2-3 weeks and still couldn't replicate. Third incident was 10/30/25 while at a complete stop in traffic leaving a parking lot, the car was at complete stop and 'self-acclerated' into the vehicle in front. This incident caused my vehcile to be total-loss by insurance. Audi case was also open and they said no fault and told me it's an insurrance matter. I believe there are many cases like mine and they are aware. There are lots of discussion on the defective 'self-accelreation' on Audi Q4 Etron. take a look at this link "https://www.reddit.com/r/etron/comments/16ta6qe/beware_of_the_q4_etron_sudden_acceleration/"

Primary issue is electric shock hazard and limb dismemberment. It was confirmed by an Audi service tech that all Audi Q4s have dangerous gaps in every door. My child 8 years old got her finger caught between the panel and door frame. She could have cut or worse lost her finger should the door rapidly open or close. Wires are exposed leaving the easy situation of access to wires with sharp metal objects that a kid could do. Open door panels have sharp edges leading g to easy cuts. As the wires are colorful and visually appealing a kid would be enticed to try to acquire. The techs will not close the panel to frame since this is Audi’s deliberate design. Tech claims to have fixed but clearly was not touched. Audi should be required to redesign door paneling and reinstall proper paneling. All door paneling to the door frames should be closed and secured with zero gaps. Video claiming this normal is found here [XXX] §ion=RECOMMENDATIONS&shouldOpenInspectionsReport=true INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Car alarmed that my EV had a major electrical issue and made sirens outside as to warn others to not come close and keep distance as if the car will catch fire or explode. I replicated this warning again sitting in the car. Fearing the car will catch fire I had it moved out of my garage. My Audi Service Center was not able to replicate the issue and I provided video and photo evidence of the danger. They claim that car works normal. In the photo is the battery light and sos light on. In addition, all safety features failed to work. Audi Q4 Etron regularly crashes and driver lose federally required safety features. For example additional photos show the loss of speedometer reading stuck on 8 mph and other safety features. These crashes happen at least once a week.

On 7/17/2024 at 11:39am at Bakersfield, CA.when weather temperature was in the 100s, when turn ignition on, lights on temperature control module (A/C, Heating) and emergency light switch started flashing unstoppable. I sent the video tu Audi of America and Audi of Bakersfield, CA. I got an email from Audi of America acknowledging the email was received. I’m afraid this is a dangerous electric issue that can start a fire. I have videos about this issue. Since I informed about this issue I still don’t get a solution from Audi.

My first two years of ownership of the Juicebox 40 were pretty uneventful. However, over the last few months my Juicebox 40 became very unpredictable. Sometimes it would charge outside of the Time of Use (TOU) settings I had defined in the Enel X way app. Sometimes it wouldn't charge during the times it was supposed to be charging. There were a lot of random error messages. My hypothesis was that the Juicebox was receiving contradictory commands from multiple sources at Enel X. The support staff at Enel X could not figure it out. Then, on 9/12/24, I walked into my garage and smelled smoke. I had a sense it was coming from where the Juicebox connects to the 14-50 wall plug so I cut the breaker. When I went back to investigate more closely, I saw that the Juicebox had completely melted the 14-50 wall outlet. The smell I was smelling was the 14-50 outlet completely melting down.

While moving downhill at approximately 20 mph, the car suddenly lost all power and went into park. This abrupt stop caused the safety belt to lock me into the seat. As a result, two cars following me were forced to take evasive action to avoid rear-ending me. This sequence of events repeated itself, culminating in a sudden lurch forward as if the pedal was fully pressed. I managed to get the car out of traffic and notified Audi that a tow was needed because driving was unsafe. The car is currently at Audi of Honolulu. This is not the first loss of power issue with this car. A few days after purchasing the car it lost power in my garage. No towing company could extract the car from the garage because of its height and width with the towing equipment. The car reset itself after four days, and it was towed to the dealership. This car poses an immediate and extreme risk to the driver, passengers, and the public. It is imperative that this issue is addressed without delay.

While driving, the car lost power, stalled, and rolled backwards down an incline. Fortunately, the brakes worked allowing me to bring the car to a safe stop. The dealer has been trying to repair the car for 40 days (the repair is not complete). The repair included replacing the front motor. When I went online to the Audi forums, it appears many drivers have experienced the same problem. Some type of refrigerant leak causes a failure of the front electric motor which causes the car to lose drive power (stall). I can't tell from the online forums how prevalent (or rare) this problem is, but it is clear that I am not the only Audi Q4 owner who has experienced the same sequence of events.

the horn is at an extremely low volume/pitch. Can barely hear it especially for other drivers inside their vehicle. Someone almost crashed into me and I pressed the horn but it was barely audible.

Front suspension ball joint failure occurred while driving approximately 70 mph on an interstate highway, resulting in sudden loss of vehicle control and requiring immediate emergency response. The vehicle is a 2023 Audi e-tron A5. Two weeks prior to the sudden failure, an Audi dealership inspected the same front corner of the vehicle following earlier damage and stated that the front suspension and wheel components were safe and the vehicle was fit to drive, replaced the rear right tire and recommended replacing the rear wheel housing after not being able to get the full car alignment to spec. I told them I wanted to defer that service until later in February unless it was catastrophic when we discussed the findings. They told me that the car was safe to drive and proceeded with the wheel alignment and replacement on the rear. The ball joint failure was catastrophic and presents a serious safety concern, particularly given the recent dealer inspection and the short time between inspection and failure. Warranty coverage was later denied by the dealership, despite having just inspected the car for damage and claimed that the failure of the front ball joint was caused by deferring the rear wheel housing service. I am submitting this complaint due to the safety implications of a suspension component failure at highway speed and concern that the defect may have existed and should have been detected during the prior inspection.

In several occasions I have noticed my Audi Q4 windows and tailgate are open the next day in the morning in my garage, after I made sure all windows and doors are properly closed and locked, thank God hasn’t happened when parking in open public parking lots and or in raining days. Also many times after locking doors and applying brake properly (after double checking before getting out of my car) I receive on myAudi App the notification that “is not locked “, and after checking my car it’s “unlocked “. Sorry I don’t have pictures for this issue.

Hi I take the liberty of writing that issue in relation to the tires of the vehicle, Audi Q-4 ETron 2023 (Bridgestone Alenza A/S Sport 235/55R19) which the vehicle came with. It has 5,200 runs, the tread is coming loose.

On April 14, 2023. I was driving west bound on Warner Road in Tempe. I bypassed the shopping enter and turned into the church parking lot - to drive through so that I could change the direction to go East on Warner Road. While driving through the parking lot - only doing about 10 miles per hour, the vehicle sensors "Adaptive Driving" feature - motioned the vehicle which case the right front to hit the base of the concrete lamp post. The parking lot surface consist of hairline cracks - which the sensors obviously picked up and caused the impact to the concrete base.

"I do find the question of cabin pre-heating power draw from a connected charger intriguing, because I thought that was a benefit of heating the cabin before departure. But does it depend on charging settings? If the charger or car is attempting to enforce a charging window, that might interfere. 🤷🏼♂️ I have home electricity use monitoring equipment, so I’ll try to play with this and report back. N=1 On this occasion, the myAudi app worked fine with cabin pre-heating despite weak cell service in our semi-rural garage. YMMV #16· Dec 4, 2025\\ \\ \\ (Edited) regardless of pre trip charging and cabin climate operation the myAudi app failed again this morning........thankfully the OAT is not that bad about zero so shall venture to garage and engage the heater through the MMI."
"Totally relate to this, waisted about 2 years ago from seeing release to delivered in US. Loved the car to start but opposite of your experience, in the winter or cooler month in Arizona was greatly. Summer is when had ongoing AC issues, 2 compressors changed and continued to have AC not work in Arizona 115 degree in heat. Was out of service for overnight 40 days then had to go to mediation to force Audi to buy back car after dealer originally offered thats asking option or replace. This was my main concern since could not survive in that heat, but had otherwise issues from the charging errors, failed to start, couldn't release charging plug, infotainment glitches, poor breaks and hatch opening when not around. Didn't live up to my Audi expectations at all compared to our Q5. Will be done with Audi unfortunately after ready to upgrade the Q5 and glad no longer have the Q4 after they were forced to buy it back. Wish you luck with yours, since I know potential is there and had a love for it."
"I am almost at the end of my tether with this car. Wonderful mechanically but the software is a disaster. I bought the car in March 2024 with 3000 miles on the clock and it worked very well for a year, but then it has become a very annoying and expensive technology mess. "Audi Q4 e-tron Software Issues New owner with a Q4 e-tron Sportback Quattro 50 and have been loving the drive. That is until two weeks in when I experienced a cascade of error messages upon start (see attached vid). Four back-to-back attempts looking for a clean start encountered the same thing. Ended up calling Audi Roadside and got a tow to our Audi dealership. Diagnostics done and I’m told the matter is a software issue and there is no fix. I’m told to wait for next software release but no idea when it will come but, good news, there is a work-around… turn car off, wait 5min and try again. Inquiries were made to Audi Canada by dealership but five days later no response. OK… picking car up tomorrow since it is supposed to be working fine BUT my confidence in this vehicle being available when I need it is significantly shaken. I question why Audi does not have the concept of a patch release or hotfix for major issues rather than make people wait for a full release. It is clear their definition of a major issue is not determined from a customer perspective, i.e. impacts function to point of intended use not being achievable. But hey, stop everything, wait and then try again. No idea when and if this issue will occur again. I will keep this community updated."
"I once was a fan of my Q4 (Audi Q4 e-tron 2023) Like the title says – I used to *love* my Q4 back in 2023. After waiting almost two years between ordering and finally getting it delivered, I was genuinely happy and excited. It had been my dream car from the moment I first saw it, and picking it up in Ingolstadt was a really special moment for me. At first, everything was great. It was summer, the battery was new, and I was easily getting around 400 km of range (charging to 80%, which I always did). That completely matched my needs. But fast forward two years, and now in the middle of winter, things look very different. Today, for example, I charged at an Audi Charging Hub up to 70%, and the estimated range was just 235 km. Yes, I know — it’s cold, batteries degrade over time, and winter efficiency is always worse. Even though today it was actually around +2°C, not extreme cold at all. Still… after almost 60,000 km, I have to say I’m pretty disappointed. I honestly don’t see myself getting another Q4, as much as I love the design and Audi as a brand. 200-ish kilometers of real-world range just isn’t enough anymore. Or rather: it *could* be enough if charging were fast. But especially in winter, the car rarely pulls more than 80 kW (instead of the advertised 125–130 kW). Charging from around 10% to 80% regularly takes 40 minutes or more. And since I have to do this almost daily because of my commute, it really adds up. On top of that, charging prices here in Germany are so high that it’s barely cheaper than driving a petrol car — especially since I don’t have a wallbox at home. I know there are explanations for all of this. I know about battery chemistry, winter losses, charging curves, and so on. That’s not really my point. My point is that, taken as a whole, the experience over the past two years has been disappointing. Between the range, the charging times, and a few other issues I’ve had along the way, the initial excitement is pretty much gone. Maybe some of you can relate. And if not — thanks for letting me vent a little. It actually helped getting this off my chest."
