The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum 4WD packs 580 hp, 300 miles of EPA range and a 125 kWh battery, and with 9 recall campaigns on this make/year, the VIN lookup is the first thing you do.

Score read

A 65/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. Software and driver-assist score is 77/100, but range and efficiency score is only 55/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite software tech and owner satisfaction as recurring problems. Treat missing repair records as a price problem, not a footnote.

✗ Avoid if you are a

  • Road tripper Long trips, needs DC fast network
  • $
Bargain hunter Best TCO, reliability + low depreciation

Gotchas

  • Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.

Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.

  • Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (55/100).

Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 300-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

Dealers make ~$10,479 on the average car loan.

I’ve had 11 times back at the dealer to fix my airbag, pre-collision and battery. Ford can’t figure out the solution and keeps throwing parts at it. Already replaced my computer, computers, my wiring, harnesses, my charge port, my wiring harness for the charge port, my seat cushion for the airbags. Ford no longer knows how to fix the problem And is leaving the truck in the backyard for over six weeks now. I’m seeing multiple people having the same problem and Ford doesn’t know how to fix the problem even though they’ve reset my modules and replace them. Ford hotline doesn’t know how to solve the problem either so they’re just resetting The code and telling customers to get back in their vehicle. I found out that Ford wanted me to drive my truck for a month with a code reader with no airbags, hoping that they could find the problem but I told them no and when I said that they said I’ve already been driving it for months even though they never fix the problem Not knowing if I had airbags. Ford is willingly putting people in vehicles with no airbags, hoping the problem is fixed, but they don’t know what’s causing the problem and I’m not the only person I know five other people with the same problem.

The cruise control can be easily and accidentally activated and can be activated at any speed. Once activated, it has a minimum established speed of 15mph. If traveling at low parking lot speeds of under 5mph, this will result in a sudden surge as the truck attempts to hit the minimum 15mph speed. The sudden surge is a surprise to many and can be dangerous as it typically occurs in low speed areas such as parking lots and can be accidentally activated during low speed maneuvers. Recommend the manufacture adjust the settings so that either cruise control can not be activated when below the established minimum speed setting of 15mph. Additionally, please refer to pages 4-5 of the forums for additional users complaining about the same: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On several occasions I have unintentionally pressed the accelerator pedal in addition to pressing the brake pedal. The brake pedal is 2 inches "higher" (closer to the driver) than the accelerator pedal in its full up position. When attempting to quickly place my foot on top of the brake pedal from the accelerator pedal, my foot hits the side of the brake pedal. This issue has resulted in several near-hit accidents with a vehicle in front of me. The rapid acceleration of the Ford Lightning reduces response time to correct the braking disruption. The brake pedal may be placed higher to prevent the driver from also depressing the accelerator when depressing the brake. Other vehicles also have a higher brake pedal, but it feels like an unusually high foot lift is required in the Lightning. There is definitely something unusual about the brake and accelerator geometry in my Ford Lightning.

Unintended acceleration / rolling may occur when vehicle is remote started through Fordpass mobile application. The 1 pedal-drive vehicle setting is NOT preserved when using remote start. Vehicle may roll down hill upon entry. Default driver profile has 1 pedal drive OFF while all device profiles linked to Fordpass and Phone-as-a-Key have 1 pedal drive ON. Fordpass mobile app remote start needs to preserve 1 pedal drive setting due to potential unintended acceleration when on flat surfaces or unintended reverse acceleration rolling down hills.

On May 25, 2023 I was stopped at a red light with one car in front of me. My foot was not on brake because i use the one peddle feature. All of the sudden, my car accelerated and ran into the car in front of me. In the 2 seconds before hitting car, I saw my collision assistant light go on but there was no braking at all. I've been driving for almost 40 years and nothing like this has ever happened. Clearly, something internally with the sensors or computer system malfunctioned. Fortunately, nobody was injured but I can't imagine if a pedestrian was in front of me. Also, the collision braking malfunctioned and brakes didn't go on either. I have not had anything problems with the truck in the 6 months I've been driving vehicle. The only error message I've been seeing before this accident is something about an Air Damn malfunction. I recently brought it into dealership and they said they fixed it but it was still coming on after leaving the dealership. Not sure exactly what this Air Damn is and if it could be related. I immediately called Ford about this and they said to contact NHTSA. I also quickly went to dealership where I purchased vehicle but they didn't seem to know what to do. My understanding, according to Ford, is to start the process with NHTSA. Let me know if you have any additional questions and what the next step is. I'm very concerned to drive vehicle when it comes back from getting all the damage fixed.

The rear lightbar assembly on our 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat has developed micro-cracks in the outer lens, allowing moisture to accumulate inside. This has caused flickering or inoperative reverse lamps and now appears to be impacting the rear passenger blinker, which functions intermittently. We are concerned that the moisture has begun to corrode the rear wiring harness or electrical system, creating additional safety risks. When we reported the issue, a Kendall Ford representative told us the rear lightbar replacement was “mainly cosmetic,” but that assessment contradicts both Ford’s recall documentation and our experience. Moisture intrusion has already led to intermittent lighting failures that reduce signaling visibility to other drivers, posing a real risk of collision. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer and a Ford Field Service Engineer dispatched from Dearborn, who inspected the truck in 2025 after the same recall repair (23S30) failed. Ford has since issued a new recall (25V731 / 25S86) acknowledging improper dealer repairs as the cause. Visible condensation, flickering lights, and intermittent “charging system fault” and “sensor unavailable” messages began shortly after the 2023 recall repair and have continued to worsen. The vehicle remains in our possession and is available for inspection by NHTSA or Ford corporate upon request.

Complaint Summary: My 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has repeatedly suffered from serious battery malfunctions, posing significant fire and electrical hazards. These safety concerns are heightened given the widely reported battery issues affecting multiple F-150 Lightning vehicles nationally. Ford has failed to permanently repair these defects, leaving my truck out of service at the dealership for nearly three months, far exceeding the warranty repair time limit of 30 days. Detailed Description: My truck’s high-voltage battery repeatedly fails despite numerous warranty repair attempts by Ford dealerships. I've grown increasingly worried due to reports of similar battery problems with Ford F-150 Lightnings, including well-documented cases of vehicles catching fire, experiencing catastrophic battery failures, or other serious electrical malfunctions. The truck regularly charges at my residence, placing my family—including my 9-year-old daughter—at serious risk of potential fire or electrical hazards. Ford has not adequately addressed this widespread defect nor provided a safe resolution for owners. This ongoing safety issue demands immediate investigation and intervention from NHTSA, as the broader public is likely at similar risk. Desired Outcome: Immediate NHTSA investigation into the widely reported Ford F-150 Lightning battery defects. Prompt corrective action by Ford, including a potential safety recall, buyback, or permanent solution to protect all affected vehicle owners. Thank you for addressing this urgent safety concern.

Extreme corrosion on connector for headlamp assembly and front camera. Also, extreme corrosion on connector that powers lightbar. Ford denied warranty claim by considering it a lamp issue even though lamp was good. The lightbar and connector w/ corrosion are one single part. Corrosion was so bad multiple pins had rusted off. This could cause electrical short and potential fire risk.

Driving into the office today I was stopped at a stoplight. When it turned green I started to accelerate when a error came up on the screen saying the vehicle needed to be serviced immediately and the vehicle reduced power (<15 mph) in the middle of a busy road with a speed limit of 55 mph. In the FordPass App I got a message saying "Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power" What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Powertrain How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes, I was unable to go faster then 15 mph in a 55 mph zone while trying to move the vehicle to the side of the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? There are over 600 incidents reported of this problem by other F150 Lightning Owners in [XXX] that are compiled in the attached spreadsheet. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps/messages were on before the failure happened. When looking under the vehicle we noticed that Ford came up with a poor design when it comes to road debris and Snow/Ice conditions in regards to sealing up the main battery connections/terminals. With normal driving on freezing days there is nothing to keep water/snow from building up on top of the "Skid plate" for the front of the battery compartment. This might be the worst attempt at covering or trying to protect a very expensive battery system from the elements. With a system such as the Lightning, we recommend a full custom skid plate replacement from the front of the front drive axle to the crossmember at the front of the battery tray.. This will involve numerous hours of work to confirm fitment and keep them as tight to the frame as possible. We also recommend trying to resolve the gaps in the wheel well opening where debris (mud/snow/water) from everyday driving can have a chance to get through the openings and again pile up onto major battery wiring components.

I have received "High Voltage Battery Warnings" on 3 separate occasions (5/5/24, 5/9/24, 7/14/24), each time being told to stop the vehicle as soon as possible. On each occasion, once the vehicle is stopped it is bricked and cannot be driven at all. Fortunately, each of the three times I was able to stop the vehicle in a safe place. However, if others are experiencing the same issue, they may not be able to stop in a safe place. Furthermore, Ford has failed twice to fix the High Voltage battery issue, and the vehicle is currently at the dealer trying to resolve the issue for a third time. The fact that Ford does not know how to resolve this repeating issue is a large safety concern for two main reasons. First, as the high voltage battery is the main power unit for the propulsion system of the car, and with Ford clearly unaware of what or how to fix the issue, the car is at risk of stopping at any time or location. Second, the dealership working with Ford to fix the car mentioned that the repairs were taking a long time because Ford indicated that the High Voltage from the battery may be discharging into other components of the vehicle, e.g. frame, door panels, etc., and so they had to proceed with extreme caution. With Ford failing to resolve the issue at least two time, there may be a risk of very high electric current coming in contact with the driver or passengers in the vehicle. It would be shocking if that were to happen.

Campaign/NHTSA# 23S30/23V418 Issue Date 2023-06-09 Description On your vehicle, it may be possible that your reversing lamps may not function due to microscopic cracks that can develop in the vehicles rear lightbar. If a microscopic crack is present, condensation can potentially enter the reversing lamp lens through these cracks and cause electrical failure to the reverse lamps. Safety Risk This may result in inoperative reverse lamps which can reduce the awareness of other motorists or road users of the drivers intention to operate the vehicle in reverse gear, increasing the risk of injury or crash. Remedy Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the rear lightbar free of charge parts and labor. Campaign/NHTSA# 23C38/23V801 Issue Date 2023-11-28 Description Affected vehicles may have software logic that does not reset the electronic stability control esc system to default operation at the initiation of each ignition cycle. Section 5.4.1 of fmvss no. 126 requires that the vehicles esc system return to the manufacturers original default esc mode at the initiation of each ignition cycle Safety Risk The vehicle operator may not notice that the vehicle operates differently after receiving the ota update 6.3.0 and now remains in off-road mode with a reduced esc state after cycling the ignition. If the vehicle operator does not notice the esc off telltale in the cluster, they may not know the vehicle is in a reduced esc state. For these vehicles, failing to revert back to a normal esc-on state after being in off-road mode makes the vehicles noncompliant to fmvss no. 126, increasing the risk of crash. Remedy The remedy for this program is a software update to accessory protocol interface module apim. Ford began Ford power-up over-the-air deployments to update the apim software for affected vehicles in November 2023. Alternatively, owners will have the option to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to complete the software update. Campaign# 23B1

During a long road trip my truck displayed a message stating that I had a Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power. My truck, while driving, reduced itself to half power. It also would not charge. I was 3 states away from home when this happened. I took the vehicle to my Ford dealership once I was able to get it home. The technician simply cleared a code and said that the issue could not be replicated. Clearly there is an issue. I know several people with the same issue. Frankly, I don't think that I can trust my new truck a significant distance from my residence.

The adaptive cruise control is supposed to adapt to the speed of the vehicle in front of you as well as adapt to the posted speed limits as they change. When driving on the highway, the adaptive cruise control will read the exit ramp speed limit while you are driving through on the highway and immediately drop. So while driving at the posted 65 mph my truck drops down to 25 mph. This has strangely happened on occasion when driving under an overpass - my speed dropped from 65 mph to 45 mph. This happens with no warning. You cannot predict when it will happen. I was driving in Maryland on Route 81 which is a MAJOR truck corridor, was driving 65 mph as posted and as I passed an exit ramp, my speed dropped to 25 mph. A tractor trailer behind me immediately blared his horn and continued to blare his horn while he passed me. I contacted Ford through their online problem chat. They never heard of this problem. This is not true because the Ford bloggers talk about this online. The Ford Representative suggested I have it checked at the dealership. I went to the Ford dealership and they said they didn’t have a fix. Just don’t use your cruise control. This defect will definitely cause a major accident, it’s just a matter of time.

My 2022 F150 Lightning was involved in a 3 car collision on Interstate 80. Three safety components of the pickup truck did not engage in preventing the accident. Specifically the adaptive cruising did not slow the truck down as traffic came to a slow crawl on the highway due to an apparent accident up ahead. Normally the adaptive cruising will start decreasing speed if the vehicle in front encroaches on the distance set for clearance. The second component which was the forward collision aural and visual warnings did not sound nor flash a warning sign on the dashboard that a collision was imminent. And the final component that failed to engage was the emergency collision braking. My seatbelts did not automatically pull back anticipating a collision. No emergency braking was applied by the truck. My wife who was the driver and I was the front right seat passenger. She was able to apply the brakes to slow down but not enough to stop before we impacted the vehicle in front which then got pushed into the 3rd vehicle in front of him. Our impact speed was probably less than 10=20 mph but the impact totaled the middle vehicle. Forthunately no injuries in any of the 3 vehicles. The middle vehicle airbags deployed. Our airbags did not deploy. California CHP came and told us no report needed to be filed. Claim was made with our insurance companies. My Ford service department representative was able to access the telemetry data on the truck and noted the time of the collision registered on the onboard computer but there were no indications that any of the 3 safety systems engaged as I mentioned. The windshield of the truck had been replaced by Safelite Windows less than a month before the accident which may have resulted in perhaps not able to sense the upcoming collision although they did the realignment after replacing the windshield. This may have been a secondary cause of the collision.

While driving on the interstate my 2022 F150 Lightning platinum lost all power to the front motor. The "comfort" mode display showed no warnings, messages, or signals to indicate that power was severely limited. I realized the issue as the vehicle was losing speed as I was going up a grade where the vehicle would hardly maintain 75mph with my foot to the floor. I have pictures from the incident which I have uploaded. (The screenshots are from the typical display, and with the specific vehicle power menu enabled. I did not capture a picture of the "Comfort" display during the incident. I have uploaded an image of the comfort display I had previously taken.)

My wife was driving my daughter to school. While driving on the road, at 20 miles per hour, car dashboard displayed "Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power" and "High-Voltage Battery Warning". Car immediately lost power. My wife quickly pulled the car to the road side. My wife noticed fluid started leaking underneath the car. The fluid leaked along side the battery tray platform. Photos and videos were taken to show the fluid leakage process. Called my car insurance company for road side assistance. The car was towed on a flatbed to the FORD dealership for repair. Dealership service department had trouble diagnosing the problem and finally reported the issue 1 week later. The service person said one of the battery module, No. 76, failed and caused the whole battery system / power train to shut down. I asked: "There are over one hundred modules in the battery platform. One failed and cause the whole car to shut down in the middle of driving?" Service person did not know the answer. Dealer contacted Ford to replacement of the battery module. Ford said the replacement module will take 2 to 6 weeks to replace. Once the the replacement module arrives, dealership will drop the battery platform to replace the module and diagnose for the fluid leakage problem. The replacement process will take 1 more week. Dealership estimate the repair time will take total of 4 to 8 weeks to repair. My wife and daughter were in the car when the car shut down in the middle of driving in the middle of the road. Luckily car had minimal power to pull to the road side and avoided rear incoming cars. It could have been a disaster for the passengers. I checked the Ford F150 Lightening Forum. https://www.f150lightningforum.com. It seems that other Lightening owners are experiencing similar problems. I don't know the total number of problems. I am hoping by reporting this issue, other people could avoid similar dangerous situation.

On June 26, 2023 I received a message from Ford Motor Company that they had detected a battery module "not performing as expected" in my 2022 F-150 Lightning BEV truck. A contact at the Ford Battery Electric Vehicle Team stated the defective battery module would be replaced under Ford Customer Service Program 23H01. The contact stated that a replacement battery module had been ordered, and an appointment was set up at the local dealership for 7/31/2023. As of 8/22/2023 no work has been done to repair my truck. There are numerous postings on the F-150 Lightning Forum involving powertrain failures and loss of power while driving, High Voltage Battery warnings, and notices from Ford of defective battery modules. Loss of power while driving is obviously a very serious safety issue. It appears the scope of battery issues with Ford F-150 Lightning BEV trucks is very significant.

It sounded like a canon shot out all my windows, a huge POP sound followed by scratching crackling sounds coming from the speakers. I tried turning down the volume to no avail, I turned off the audio but the loud scratching sound kept going at a very loud volume. The scratching sound went on for about 2 minutes then shut off. My ears were ringing and I was in a lot of ear pain due to the loud POP noise, it felt like my ear drums were blown out. On October 4, 2022 at ~1:30 p.m. EDT I was stopped at a red light when an extremely loud pop and deafening noise "exploded" in the truck cabin. If I had been driving at the time, the sudden and extreme noise could have caused me to react in a way to lose control of the vehicle. After the light changed, I turned into a business entrance, turned the vehicle off, got out of the vehicle, locked the door, and the noise still continued for several seconds. After the noise stopped, I got back in the vehicle, restarted it, and the noise returned. The noise sounds like it is coming from the sound system at more than full volume. I estimate the sound level at well over 100 dB. Trying to turn off the sound system had no effect on the problem. I had to drive my truck for at least 20 minutes to get home with the deafening noise continuing unabated for the entire trip. After about 10 minutes into the trip, I also detected an "electrical burn" smell in the cabin. The smell was strong enough that I looked around the cabin for smoke, but I did not see any. Something has definitely overheated. Two hours after the incident my ears are still ringing, and I have a severe headache. I am a retired Licensed Professional Engineer with over 50 years of Engineering and Safety experience. I did not notice any warning lamps or messages. The vehicle seemed to operate normally, except the air conditioning system seemed to be operating at reduced capacity. This issue has been reported by at least 50 members on the "f150gen14.com" forum.

There was a sonic boom explosion of noise from the radio / speakers followed by very loud static. I would estimate the db level to be 150 plus. Left my ears ringing for hours followed by aching and there has to be some permanent damage. I had driven the truck for 45 minutes. Using radio on about level 5 when I parked turned the vehicle off and exited. After a 90 minute appointment I reentered the pickup and when I pressed start the explosion of noise happened. The level was so intense and loud I was temporarily disoriented and confused. I did not know if there was a nearby explosion, if my windows were shattered, if I was ok. Probably was only a few seconds and the static as persistent. Loud and I could not get it to stop. I did everything I could to lower or turn the volume down or off. Nothing worked. I was in a parking garage unbuckled and when I got over the speed to initiate the fasten seatbelt warning tones, those tones beginning stopped the static. I continued my trip and have not had another occurrence.

Vehicle: 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro VIN: [XXX] This vehicle is subject to a fire-related battery recall issued by Ford Motor Company. The vehicle has been at an authorized Ford dealership (West Herr, New York) since December 26 for recall repair. As of today, it has been out of service for 53 days. The dealership has stated that the delay is due to EV battery lift capacity limitations and that my vehicle is waiting behind another truck because they only have one lift capable of performing the repair. No firm repair completion date has been provided. For over seven weeks, I have received no proactive communication from the dealership regarding repair status. The light bar on the tailgate that is the brake lights and reverse lights is known to get moisture inside and stop working. It is a known problem with Ford as they recalled them 2 years ago and replaced it under warranty. However the replacement part suffers from the same issue. So, my replacement light bar has stopped working, and even though I have Fords Premium Care extended warranty that includes all LED lighting, they will not cover the repair. This part is a safety item (brake lights and reverse lights) that is known to fail, it should be a safety recall item covered out of warranty anyway, and SURELY covered with an extended warranty (Ford Premium Care with Lighting added) but it apparently is not.... It seems that this safety issue should be covered and replaced Thanks

I own a 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat (VIN [XXX] ). Around June 6, 2025, I brought my truck to Apple Ford Shakopee for a scheduled appointment because I noticed moisture collecting inside the rear light bar. The service representative told me Ford considers that moisture normal, likely from a car wash, and that it would dry out on its own. At that time the truck had fewer than 36,000 miles and was still under the bumper-to-bumper warranty. The moisture never went away, and the light bar is now failing — my backup lights are dimming and flickering. I’ve since learned there was a recall (23S30) on 2022–2023 F-150 Lightning Lariat and Platinum trucks for micro-cracks in the rear light-bar lens that allow moisture in. My VIN currently shows no recall campaigns needing VIN-specific checks, but this failure appears identical to what the recall described. Additionally, owner forums are full of reports from other Lightning owners experiencing the same issue — including those who already had the recall repair completed, whose replacement light bars are now showing moisture again. This suggests the defect may persist even after recall repairs. I’m reporting this because the issue compromises the rear lighting and visibility of the vehicle. I hope Ford and NHTSA will review whether the recall scope or remedy should be expanded to include affected vehicles like mine and make sure owners aren’t left with expensive out-of-pocket repairs for a known manufacturing defect. Rear light bar was replaced under Recall 23S30 on April 30, 2024. At the time, light bar had moisture inside and was no longer functioning. Now same issue has presented itself with the new part. Rear lightbar works sporadically or not at all. This means that the red part of the light bar flashes randomly while driving, probably confusing other drivers. This also means the reverse lights do not work. So there is no indication when the vehicle is reversing. I noticed the moisture around the beginning of August 2025 and then noticed flickering lights while in reverse around August 18, 2025. Now, there are no reverse lights at all.

"Why I Bought Another F-150 Lightning A couple months ago I was involved in a pretty scary car accident. A driver ran a red light and T-boned my truck while I was driving with my young son. The impact was pretty significant, all side airbags deployed and the truck absorbed the hit pretty well. When the insurance process finally played out and it was totaled, I had a decision to make. I looked at other options and considered switching vehicles. But the more I thought about it, the more it felt like the Lightning had already proven itself to me in the most important way possible. So I stayed committed and ended up getting another 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum. It is not easy to find them so I actually had this one shipped from Illinois to me in Virginia. I finally recently finished adding on all the accessories that I had on the previous one. A lot of which I found via this reddit. I genuinely love this truck. The performance, the quiet ride, the tech, and now I have experience with how well it protects the people inside. Just wanted to share in case anyone is on the fence or wondering how these trucks hold up in real world situations. Stay safe out there."

"My experience finding a 2022 XLT ER w/Max Towing and trading it one year later for a 2024 Flash ER w/Max Towing TL;DR: Bought a ‘22 XLT ER Max Tow with 39 miles in March ‘25 for $42k, traded it in March of ‘26 for $39k on a ‘24 Flash ER Max Tow with 180 miles for $49,970. Feels like I found two excellent deals and now I love my lightning even more. (The ‘22 is now on the dealers website again at $42k) I wanted to share my Lightning journey because it ended up being a mix of skepticism, two ridiculous deals, and finally getting the exact spec I wanted. ⸻ How I got here (not a comparison, just context) My first EV was a Kia EV6, and what it really did for me was simple: It made me realize I loved driving an EV. That’s it. From there, I knew I wanted my next vehicle to be: an EV… but a truck I looked at options: • Rivian — super impressive, but too expensive • No CarPlay (dealbreaker for me) • And honestly, I didn’t like the idea of paying that much and then feeling weird about using it like a real truck That’s what pushed me toward the Lightning. ⸻ Then I found a deal I couldn’t ignore I came across a 2022 Lightning XLT ER with Max Tow: • 39 miles (basically new, still in plastic) • $42K purchase price • Sticker was $66,494 From everything I could find at the time, it was the lowest mileage + lowest price ER w/ Max Tow in the country, so I jumped on it. It had a great spec: • ER battery • Max Tow • Pro Power 9.6kW • Spray-in bedliner • Tailgate step And I thought it had everything I wanted. ⸻ The mistake: adaptive cruise I specifically wanted adaptive cruise, and I mistakenly thought the XLT had it. Once I realized it didn’t, that stuck with me. Didn’t ruin the truck — I actually loved it — but it was enough that I started thinking: “If I’m doing this long-term, I want the exact spec I actually want.” ⸻ The 2022 XLT — what actually mattered The truck completely won me over: • It just feels like a real truck • EV torque makes it ridiculously fun • The frunk is insanely useful • Daily driving is effortless And importantly: • It never felt like something I had to baby • I used it like a truck, and it handled it just fine That was a big difference vs how I felt about something like the Rivian at its price point. ⸻ The hunt for my perfect spec After buying the XLT and missing out on the adaptive cruise, I kept researching and dialed in what I wanted: • Flash trim • Cloth seats (I prefer cloth over leather) • ER battery • Max Tow • Adaptive cruise / BlueCruise I also knew i preferred the 18” wheels of the XLT and definitely not the 22’s on the upper spec. To me the best Lightning ride quality is the 18’s, with the 20’s being good enough and the 22’s just way too harsh. I wasn’t in a rush — just watching the market. ⸻ Déjà vu: I found another steal Then it happened again… same place: Group 1 Ford (formerly Maxwell Ford) in Austin • 2024 Lightning Flash • \~180 miles •"
