The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning 4WD Extended Range packs 580 hp, 320 miles of EPA range and a 125 kWh battery, and with 11 recall campaigns on this make/year, the VIN lookup is the first thing you do.
Score read
A 70/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. The useful split is software and driver-assist score at 82/100 versus range and efficiency score at 56/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite software tech and owner satisfaction as recurring problems. If the seller cannot show recall completion, price that risk or move on.
Price context
Used examples are running around $44,894. This trim started from $71,990 new, though options can push the actual sticker higher; treat the market number as your negotiation floor and pull a current KBB Fair Purchase before naming a price.
Who this is for

Gotchas
- Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.
Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.
- Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (56/100).
Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 320-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

Dealers make ~$11,749 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
That's 18 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

Gear shifter was stuck in the car. Can happen at random times. For no reason at all, the gear shifter refuses to budge out of park, or reverse, or drive, and essentially bricks the car. Car refuses to move. Car refuses to respond to accelerator or brake pedals. Can happen in the middle of the road, or in a parking lot late at night when you are trying to leave a sketchy area. Can be an extremely dangerous circumstance, and Ford is trying to avoid attention to this at all costs.

I was driving at 45 miles an hour. With no warning, the car had 28 warnings pop up and it just died with no warning. No power steering, no brake assist at all, no lights (not even emergency light would turn on). I was not able to put it into neutral so I was just stuck. Ford roadside was not able to get moving so I was just stuck. I called a tow and it was dragged up. The dealer determined it was a faulty 12v battery.

When the Ford Lightning is in reverse and the 1-pedal braking system is applied, the brakes don't engage when switching to drive causing the car to roll back an additional 3-5 feet depending on speed. In the situation that caused the fender bender, the Ford lightning was reversing in a street at approx. 5 MPH then the driver released the pedal for the brakes and switched to drive. The car rolled back 5 feet into a parked car during this transition.

While braking slowly to park at my home, my 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning XLT suddenly accelerated forward without any throttle input. The vehicle struck a wall. My foot was on the brake and I did not touch the accelerator. There were no warning messages prior to the incident. This could have caused serious injury or worse if anyone was in front of the vehicle. I believe this may be a critical safety defect.

I was driving down the interstate and the vehicle was struck by lightning. The vehicle lost all electrical power. As a result, the brakes did not work. Luckily, I was able to safely coast to a stop in the median. If the brakes can be more than 90% compromised during complete electrical failure, the vehicle should have a mechanical emergency brake.

Using the 1 pedal drive mode, I was entering my driveway, which is 90 degrees adjacent to the street I was on. My approximate speed entering the driveway was 2 MPH. As I was finishing the turn and almost straightened out, my hand accidently glazed over and engaged the cruise control button. My truck lurched forward and started to accelerate towards the garage door. I quickly stepped on the brake and the truck came to rest mere inches from the garage door. I believe the speed it was trying to accelerate to was 15 MPH when I had looked down at the dash. This is a big safety hazard. I have tried to recreate it and cruise control wont engage on slow speeds. I'm not sure why this occasion was different.

Bought an electric truck in May of 2023 that is frequently malfunctioning while on the road. Turn signals and hazard lights becoming unusable. Gauges w/ speed are turning off and on while driving. All safety features become disabled. Video of multiple occurrences are available and have been submitted to ford. Would someone please help me and atleast reach out to see the videos of what this truck is doing. I have extensive documentation of my attempts to get this vehicle repaired or off the roads through the BEV specialist. My emails are ignored and my phone calls are put in endless loops before being hung up on. I have been trying for 6 months to get them to make my truck safe. I’m scared me and my family or possibly other motorist are going to be hurt if this situation is not fixed. I know I shouldn’t keep driving it but I have to get to work. Purchased an extended warranty for thousands of dollars but after taking to 3 dealerships multiple times a piece no repairs to the computer have been made and they literally have documented they are trying a temporary method for “testing” out unproven “wire overlayment” to bypass an issue with a harness bc they dont want to “condemn” an expensive module on the truck. The computers that control this electric vehicle are failing and I’m scared what is going to happen when if completely goes out while I’m driving at 70 on the interstate. If someone would please look at the service transcripts, my emails to ford, and videos of this vehicle malfunctioning I would be sincerely grateful and appreciate any guidance.

When performing low-speed departing, 3-point turns, parking, etc., I repeatedly shifted into the wrong gear. I thought I’d suddenly forgotten how to drive. Once home in my driveway, I discovered the shifter had 2 “extra” detents. It takes 2 clicks to get from P to R and two clicks to get from D to N. There should only be one! This is extremely unsafe and I won’t drive the truck until it’s fixed (except to take it to the dealer using extra caution when using the shifter).

My vehicle is a Ford F150 Lightning, a battery electric vehicle. As this is an electric vehicle, the vehicle has a large frunk available for cargo storage. Within the frunk there is an emergency hood release button that can be activated if a person became trapped inside the frunk. This button is located on the side of the cargo compartment and is in a position that makes it very easy to be activated while driving by shifting cargo within the frunk. On at least three occasions, I personally have experienced cargo shifting inside my frunk and activating the emergency hood release while driving. This results in the hood unlatching and multiple alarms going off inside the vehicle. Ford has evidently realized this design flaw, because mid-way through the 2023 model year they revised emergency release button to have a protective shield that prevents accidental presses from cargo. However, trucks built before then still have the flawed button.

While driving in sport mode multiple times, received "drive mode not available" message. Vehicle reverted to normal mode changing expected regeneration braking force. No other issues with the vehicle noted or stored in CAN. Seems to be a software glitch but arrives randomly and unexpectedly changes expected regenerative braking force requiring more driver input.

The infotainment/screen freezes every time the vehicle is started. This prevents the backup camera from working. The system reboots continuously for 2-30 minutes. Ford has said a software fix will resolve it in several months.

At 65mph driving in sport mode which has increased regeneration during deceleration which provides substantial braking, I was approaching stopped traffic. I let off the throttle pedal anticipating the braking effect and regeneration but the truck instaneously switched driving modes to normal without my input. It took me a second to realize I was not slowing and had to manually activate the brake pedal in order to stop in time. I tried to reselect sport mode after stopping and it was greyed out with a message saying some features are disabled while driving. Normally you can switch drove modes while driving. After restart truck returned to normal operation. The danger was the unantisipated change to braking effect during a critical time before a high speed stop.

When I started the vehicle the virtual instrument cluster was blank, therefore I could not tell how fast I was going, how many miles I could go before I needed to charge, start cruise control, and many other features only available on this screen. I tried to restart the vehicle, but the screen was still blank. Fortunately the screen worked again after I parked to go shopping for a period of time.

I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC ON THE 405 AND THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM ACTIVATED AND SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A SCREECHING HALT ON FREEWAY. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED. THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED "FRONT CAMERA FAULT" AND:COLLISION AVOIDANCE NO AVAILABLE" ON THE DASH FOR A FEW MINUTES. NO ERROR CODES WERE FOUND IN THE COMPUTER. THIS IS THE SECOND FORD LIGHTNING I'VE HAD WITH THAT PROBLEM AND MANY OTHERS. FORD BOUGHT THE FIRST ONE BACK UNDER THE CA LEMIN LAW. GALPIN FORD HAS FOUND NO CAUSE FOR THE COLLISION AVOIDANCE FAILURE AND NO CAUSE FOR THE ONE PEDAL DRIVE FAULTS. ERROR CODES ARE NOT BEING STORED IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. FORDS ANSWER WAS TO TRY TO GIVE ME THE VEHICLE BACK WITHOUT REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY SAY THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER THE PROBLEMS WITH THE FIRST TRUCK I PHOTOGRAPH ALL ERRORS ON DASH. DESPITE MY PICTURES THEY ARE UNABLE TO MAKE REPAIRS. I HAVE APPLIED TO GET THIS SECOND LIGHTNING BOUGH BACK UNDER THE CA LEMON LAWS AS WELL. I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER INSTANCES OF OWNERS REPORTING THESE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN FORUMS.

The vehicle's message center reported multiple system failures while driving 70 MPH on a two lane Montana highway. The steering assist failure caused the wheel to jerk left/right before locking up. It took all the strength I had to keep the vehicle from exiting the roadway. If someone else was driving they would not have likely been as fortunate. The vehicle is now parked inside while I wait to hear from Ford. The local dealer won't look at the truck until the middle of next month. The truck has about 1500 miles.

We were in a low speed situation. A car 2 cars in front of us was signaling a right hand turn. We began to slow down from approximately 25 mph to 5-7 mph. The car turning right stop short of completing their turn, the car immediately in front of us came to a complete stop. We were only traveling 5 - 7 mph behind and had plenty of room to stop. I depressed the brake further (we were already slowing due to turning vehicle) but the truck did not slow at which point I depressed the brake pedal as hard as I could. The truck did not slow at all in this time (no brake locking, no skid marks). We only came to a stop when we hit the stopped vehicle in front of us. Additionally, this vehicle has advanced safety features (forward collision warning and active braking assist) -- none of these features triggered. I have lost all faith in this vehicles ability given the situation. I contacted Ford customer service, they referred me to their Office of General Counsel and said to expect a response in 45 - 60 days. That is unacceptable to me -- I have a very expensive vehicle that I cannot drive as I do not trust it. I want to understand why all these systems failed, have them as well as my vehicle fixed or the vehicle bought back from me. I cannot wait 60 days for resolution.

I own a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning that is subject to an active safety recall involving electrical components and exterior lighting (potential water intrusion leading to lighting failure, including rear/reverse lamps). I was notified of the recall around October/2025 and contacted a Ford dealer shortly after. The dealer confirmed the recall is active but stated that no remedy is available. I have followed up multiple times with both the dealer and Ford corporate, and as of today, there is still no repair available and no timeline has been provided. This has persisted for approximately 6 months. Ford communicated a fix in Q1 of 2026. This defect affects critical lighting and electrical systems necessary for safe operation and visibility. Operating the vehicle under these conditions presents a safety risk. Despite this, Ford has not provided a repair, interim solution, or clear guidance. Due to the unresolved recall, I have been unable to reasonably use the vehicle. The vehicle is also used for business purposes, resulting in financial loss. I continue to incur a monthly loan obligation of approximately $2,000 while the vehicle remains effectively unusable. Ford has not offered a loaner vehicle, compensation, or alternative remedy. Complaint with Ford CXXX was submitted, with stated return calls, my repeated follow-ups, and no resolution. I am submitting this complaint to document that the manufacturer has issued a safety recall but has failed to provide a timely remedy, leaving the vehicle unusable and creating ongoing safety concerns and financial harm. My 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning caught fire while parked in my driveway. The vehicle was NOT charging at the time of the incident. There were no warning lights, alerts, or prior mechanical issues before the fire. At the time, I was inside my home asleep when my children alerted me that the truck was “exploding.” I immediately went outside and attempted to move another vehicle and control the fire using a water hose, but the fire spread rapidly and became uncontrollable. The fire department later arrived and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was a total loss. The fire also caused: Damage to my dump trailer Damage to landscaping Damage to a wall on my property Battery-related debris and residue left on my driveway This debris is still present and I am concerned it may be hazardous, especially since I have children and a dog at home. The incident caused serious emotional distress to my family, who witnessed the fire, and significant financial loss. My insurance company (Allstate) is covering the remaining loan balance, but I am still left with financial loss from payments already made and property damage. Police report number: VV260910161 Fire department report: (pending) I have not received any communication from Ford Motor Company regarding this incident.

I own a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, with 48,200 miles and 2.5 years of ownership. Recently, my truck began displaying a “Powertrain / Reduced Power” warning while driving, and the air conditioning stopped producing cold air. The dealer scanned the vehicle and found DTC P0534 – A/C System Charge Loss. Further diagnostics indicated that multiple vehicle modules may require reprogramming and software updates. The dealer stated they need to evacuate and recharge the AC system, add dye, and remove front trunk components to locate the leak. This AC system is part of the high-voltage battery and eDrive thermal management system, meaning that failure of the HVAC system affects battery cooling and powertrain performance. Loss of cabin cooling is a symptom of a thermal system malfunction, which can lead to battery overheating, powertrain derating, and reduced driving performance. The combination of unexpected reduced power and loss of cabin cooling creates a safety risk, particularly during highway driving, merging, or situations requiring acceleration. These failures occurred at relatively low mileage and are associated with the high-voltage EV system, which should be functioning properly to make sure safe vehicle operation. I am submitting this complaint to report a potential safety defect with the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning affecting the battery thermal management, high-voltage AC system, and eDrive components, which can result in sudden power loss and compromised vehicle safety.

The front traction motor on my 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning failed without warning, causing the vehicle to lose all-wheel drive capability. The truck automatically limited available power to about 67%, which I later learned indicates the front motor was disabled and the vehicle was operating in rear-wheel drive only. The failure occurred with no warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms on the dashboard or in the FordPass app. I assumed AWD was functioning, which could have caused a serious accident in snow, ice, or gravel conditions because the loss of front-wheel traction significantly reduces vehicle stability. The component/system is still available for inspection. At this time, the issue has NOT been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer, and the vehicle has NOT yet been inspected by the manufacturer or any other party. Cause of failure is UNKNOWN. This lack of a warning or alert to the driver represents a major safety hazard because it changes how the vehicle handles without the driver’s knowledge.

The truck's remote access app is not able to communicate with the truck during the entire period I own the truck. This features worked 20% of time only. I am not able to unlock or lock the truck remotely. I am not able to find out its location and I am not able to remotely start its cooling system to keep battery cool during charging. I have brought the issue to the dealer I purchased the truck from at least 3 time in the last 2 years. Even though the truck's key was locked in it at the dealer, this issue was not resolved due to cost of its repair. Other trucks were repaired with a new modem. The truck was advertised as a remotely accessible EV truck, I am concerned about my safety if this feature is not available and I am at a urgent situation when it is necessary to use the features.

The part they replace the rear light bar that you have a recall for also fails in the exact same manner causing my reverse lights to stay on while driving.

The front trunk (or frunk) of the electric truck has a power lift as the primary means of opening and closing it and this has a failure warning/dash light stating it requires service. The front trunk is where the travel charger is stored by the manufacturer as well as where the positive and negative terminals for the 12 v battery are located. In the absence of the power open function, there is a tab to "pop the hood" but this requires the tab to be held back while a second person pulls open the hood to get it to open/is not possible to open by just the driver. Ford recognizes this problem under the code CXH-03906163-G5J3D0 "reprogram the front hatch control module FCHM" but is listing it as a recommended repair to the dealerships, not a recall. Ford does not list a mileage restriction on this recommended repair, but dealerships will not repair at their cost past 36000 miles. A non-functioning hood or trunk latch that restricts access to key electronic components is a safety issue, not just an inconvenience.

I was leaving my storage unit on Sunday October 6, 2024 at around 7 pm. I was traveling at 5 mph as I approached the exit gate code box. I stopped at the top of the steep hill by depressing the brake. I rolled down the window so I could put the code in that opens the rolling gate below. As I took my foot slowly off the brake, suddenly the vehicle rapidly accelerated, veering slightly left, the steering wheel locked as I pressed the brake pedal twice more it was unresponsive. We flew like a rocket ship knocking down small trees, 2 light posts with 1 light coming down and breaking passenger side windshield. Continuing crashing through 2 iron water main fixtures and through an iron gate. At the bottom of the hill the truck flew into the air and came to a hard landing, the steering wheel unlocked and we came to a stop quickly as the one pedal finally engaged and the computer screen announced " one pedal engaged". Then announced Power Train Malfunctioned. Also airbags never deployed. Prior to the wild ride, the vehicle was awaiting the overdue WiFi update named Power Train system update and prior to approaching the hill, I had tried twice to turn on the one pedal and got the never before seen message " one pedal failure could not engage". Truck was a total loss and my passenger and I were injured. When I contacted a Ford representative and told them about the incident, I mentioned that there was 2 other incidents of a brief steering wheel lock and rapid acceleration without injury or crash, I was told that I should have brought it in, therefore they were not responsible. The 2 brief incidents left me unsure of what had happened so we thought it was a fluke and without out any computer warnings we paid it no mind.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a serious safety issue with my 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning. While driving, the gauge screen on my vehicle intermittently goes black, leaving me without critical driving information, including speed, battery charge level, and warning indicators. This issue occurs unexpectedly and poses a severe safety risk, particularly at high speeds or in heavy traffic conditions. The inability to monitor vital vehicle data while driving significantly increases the risk of accidents, as it forces the driver to operate without essential real-time information. Additionally, this issue may lead to non-compliance with speed limits, missed warnings for mechanical failures, and impaired vehicle control. I have reached out to Ford regarding this issue, but as of now, no effective resolution has been provided. I am deeply concerned about the potential for serious accidents if this problem is not addressed immediately. Given the growing number of electric vehicles on the road, ensuring the reliability of essential display systems is crucial for public safety. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter and take necessary action to make sure that Ford acknowledges and resolves this dangerous defect. I appreciate your attention to this urgent safety issue and look forward to your response regarding any next steps.

On my new Ford F-150 Lightning, five out of the six studs on the right front wheel sheared off, leaving just one lug nut and stud holding the wheel on. I took my truck into the Ford dealership who repaired the vehicle and it was returned to me. They did not appear to be escalating the dangerous situation to Ford. The dealership kept the removed parts for warranty submission.

I entered my 23 F150 Lightning Lariat started the vehicle, was driving into work with my stero on 5 ( fairly low volume ) in surround mode, and all of the speakers suddently popped at an extremely high volume which was very shocking for a safety standpoint. I stopped the truck thinking there was a major electrical issue checked the truck / amp components for any sort of water or other issue, ( truck is mint new condition ) and nothing was found, all connections were clearly seated well. Truck radio was in surround mode, switched to stero and everything seemed fine and no issues, switched back to surround mode and the issue immediately reappeared. So its something with this mode / amp / setting... Did quite an extensive amount of reading online and came accross this issue was quite extensive for this truck. It needs to be documented and fixed, dealer shrugged when I called them...

The vehicle stopped to work without any warning or apparent reason. Now the gear shift is stuck at Park position and the vehicle will not start asking the driver to move the gear selector to Park position. It will not also take any charge (it's Lightning, an EV). It's a safety hazard if the vehicle stop while driving and may leave the driver and passengers stranded away from home.

I got into my vehicle and turned it on but the dashboard would not respond. On the advice of some Ford forums, I attempted a soft reset of the "infotainment" system by holding down the volume down + next track buttons and the center console screen restarted but the dashboard would not turn on. I ended up driving home using my phone as a GPS speedometer. After multiple restarts, I waited about 3 hours to try to restart the truck and when the dashboard suddenly started working again.

What Owners Are Saying
"Why I Bought Another F-150 Lightning A couple months ago I was involved in a pretty scary car accident. A driver ran a red light and T-boned my truck while I was driving with my young son. The impact was pretty significant, all side airbags deployed and the truck absorbed the hit pretty well. When the insurance process finally played out and it was totaled, I had a decision to make. I looked at other options and considered switching vehicles. But the more I thought about it, the more it felt like the Lightning had already proven itself to me in the most important way possible. So I stayed committed and ended up getting another 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum. It is not easy to find them so I actually had this one shipped from Illinois to me in Virginia. I finally recently finished adding on all the accessories that I had on the previous one. A lot of which I found via this reddit. I genuinely love this truck. The performance, the quiet ride, the tech, and now I have experience with how well it protects the people inside. Just wanted to share in case anyone is on the fence or wondering how these trucks hold up in real world situations. Stay safe out there."
"My experience finding a 2022 XLT ER w/Max Towing and trading it one year later for a 2024 Flash ER w/Max Towing TL;DR: Bought a ‘22 XLT ER Max Tow with 39 miles in March ‘25 for $42k, traded it in March of ‘26 for $39k on a ‘24 Flash ER Max Tow with 180 miles for $49,970. Feels like I found two excellent deals and now I love my lightning even more. (The ‘22 is now on the dealers website again at $42k) I wanted to share my Lightning journey because it ended up being a mix of skepticism, two ridiculous deals, and finally getting the exact spec I wanted. ⸻ How I got here (not a comparison, just context) My first EV was a Kia EV6, and what it really did for me was simple: It made me realize I loved driving an EV. That’s it. From there, I knew I wanted my next vehicle to be: an EV… but a truck I looked at options: • Rivian — super impressive, but too expensive • No CarPlay (dealbreaker for me) • And honestly, I didn’t like the idea of paying that much and then feeling weird about using it like a real truck That’s what pushed me toward the Lightning. ⸻ Then I found a deal I couldn’t ignore I came across a 2022 Lightning XLT ER with Max Tow: • 39 miles (basically new, still in plastic) • $42K purchase price • Sticker was $66,494 From everything I could find at the time, it was the lowest mileage + lowest price ER w/ Max Tow in the country, so I jumped on it. It had a great spec: • ER battery • Max Tow • Pro Power 9.6kW • Spray-in bedliner • Tailgate step And I thought it had everything I wanted. ⸻ The mistake: adaptive cruise I specifically wanted adaptive cruise, and I mistakenly thought the XLT had it. Once I realized it didn’t, that stuck with me. Didn’t ruin the truck — I actually loved it — but it was enough that I started thinking: “If I’m doing this long-term, I want the exact spec I actually want.” ⸻ The 2022 XLT — what actually mattered The truck completely won me over: • It just feels like a real truck • EV torque makes it ridiculously fun • The frunk is insanely useful • Daily driving is effortless And importantly: • It never felt like something I had to baby • I used it like a truck, and it handled it just fine That was a big difference vs how I felt about something like the Rivian at its price point. ⸻ The hunt for my perfect spec After buying the XLT and missing out on the adaptive cruise, I kept researching and dialed in what I wanted: • Flash trim • Cloth seats (I prefer cloth over leather) • ER battery • Max Tow • Adaptive cruise / BlueCruise I also knew i preferred the 18” wheels of the XLT and definitely not the 22’s on the upper spec. To me the best Lightning ride quality is the 18’s, with the 20’s being good enough and the 22’s just way too harsh. I wasn’t in a rush — just watching the market. ⸻ Déjà vu: I found another steal Then it happened again… same place: Group 1 Ford (formerly Maxwell Ford) in Austin • 2024 Lightning Flash • \~180 miles •"
"It’s also full of all the technology you’d expect as well. Not only does it have the 15.5-inch touchscreen to control all the essential stuff, but it’s also got wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, wireless charging, and eight-speaker B&O audio system and a whole lot more. In my week with the F-150 Lightning, it all worked flawlessly, I linked my phone to CarPlay on the very first attempt, and it stayed connected the entire time. Finally, it’s shockingly quiet. Sure, that’s an EV thing to be quiet, but to experience it in a truck is a little weird. Adding in a heaping helping of comfort and convenience features is great, but if they end up attached to a lumbering noisy giant, it diminishes the experience. Not only is the F-150 Lightning comfy and it rides well, the silence is serene (mostly). It made a long tedious drive through D.C. all that much easier."
"2024 Ford F-150 Lightning flash edition Charging Cost & Efficiency Breakdown I’ve been tracking my charging costs and efficiency for my 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning and wanted to share some real-world data for anyone curious about EV performance. • Electricity Rate: ~$0.08 per kWh (charging after 11 PM with my Virginia electric company’s off-peak rates) • Efficiency: ~3.11 miles per kWh • Monthly Charging Cost: ~$73 (January: $73.79, February: $72.67) • Monthly Energy Consumption: ~920 kWh on average • Cost Per Mile: ~2.5 cents per mile • Daily Commute: ~50 miles For context, I plug in my truck as soon as I get home, but actual charging happens when the truck decides (typically after 11 PM when rates drop). My priority is making sure it’s fully charged when I need it, so I don’t micromanage the process. Comparing this to a gas truck getting 20 MPG at $3.50/gal, I’d be paying ~$8.75 per day ($262/month) in fuel. That means my Lightning is ~7x cheaper per mile than gas. For those tracking their own charging, have you noticed any big differences in efficiency during winter months? Also, how does your cost per mile compare?"
"Problems reported for 2022 Ford F-150 Lightnings? Getting a little pessimistic, I have seen forum reports of: \-Not good: too many reports of clicking from axle splines at wheel CV joints, that need relubrication? \-Serious: high voltage battery or power contactors failing, like maybe the first \~40K Mach-E's? How could this get by all the testing? \-Very annoying: luggage compartment (frunk!) lifts needing replacement \-Dumb: frunk not latching properly due to moisture in connectors or solenoids. \-What?: low voltage 12Vdc batteries needing replacement causing stranding. \-Stupid: rubber de-lamination from side steps. \-Come on!: powered tailgate fails. \-Step up!: difficult to get over the air updates. \-Go recycled?: Lariat leather seats rippling Oh, well, customer seems to still be the guinea pig, but how does Ford stay ahead with all these warranty claims? Guess that is why the prices are so high?Ford, where quality is ... ?What do you think?"
"Ford F-150 Lightning Complaints, Issues & Problems Firsttimeford Mar 3, 2026 Adaptive Cruise Control Ford needs to fix the adaptive cruise control. "New York Times: How Ford’s F-150 Lightning, Once in Hot Demand, Lost Its Luster Some buyers said the electric Lightning did not meet expectations, and Ford has slashed its production plans for the pickup because sales are lagging. By Neal E. Boudette Feb. 7, 2024 In July Michael Puglia drove home with what seemed like the coolest vehicle he’d ever own — a Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck. It was big enough to haul around his children and all their hockey gear. He’d never have to gas it up, and the ride was exhilarating. “It’s unbelievably fast and responsive,” said Mr. Puglia, a pediatric anesthesiologist in Ann Arbor, Mich. “The technology is amazing.” But as cooler weather arrived, the truck’s range — or how far it could travel before needing to be plugged in — dropped significantly. Once, after Mr. Puglia had driven 35 miles to an ice rink, his range fell by 73 miles. Another time, a 60-mile jaunt reduced his range by 110 miles. Several trips to the dealership for software updates didn’t fix the problem, leaving Mr. Puglia wondering whether he should keep the $79,000 truck. “People say ‘range anxiety’ — it’s like it’s the driver’s fault,” he said. “But it’s not our fault. It’s actually they’re not telling us what the real range is. The truck says it’s 300 miles. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten that.” Mr. Puglia’s short trip from excitement to frustration reflects the recent ups and downs across the electric vehicle sector. Twelve months ago, sales of battery-powered cars seemed poised for a sustained takeoff in the United States. Sales rose 46 percent last year, exceeding more than one million vehicles for the first time and making up more than 7 percent of all new light vehicles sold in 2023. But by the final three months of 2023, the pace of sales had slowed, and automakers’ optimism had turned to caution. In the last three months of the year, according to the California New Car Dealers Association, new-vehicle registrations of electric vehicles fell from the previous three months in California — the largest market for battery-powered cars and trucks. Ford Motor, General Motors and others are now slowing down electric vehicle investments. G.M. is also delaying the sale of some new electric models and making plans to produce plug-in hybrids, which dealers say are drawing more customer interest. “You had a wave of early adopters, but the mainstream consumer is just not jumping up and down for E.V.s,” said Marc Cannon, an independent consultant who until recently was the chief customer experience officer at AutoNation, the country’s largest automotive retailer. “The manufacturers are putting out product, but the consumer is like, ‘We’re not participating.’” Demand for the Lightning slackened, and the reservation backlog all but disappeared. In 2023, Ford sold 24,000 Ligh"
