Buyer brief · 250 words

The 2023 Genesis GV60 PERFORMANCE packs 235 miles of EPA range, 240 kW fast charging and a 74 kWh battery, and 8 recall campaigns affect this make/year — verify every one is closed on the exact VIN.

Score read

A 63/100 makes this worth comparing, not chasing. Software and driver-assist score is 93/100, but range and efficiency score is only 37/100. Reddit threads cluster around software tech and build quality — verify both against the service records. Treat missing repair records as a price problem, not a footnote.

Is it a good deal?

Bargain Priced well below class for the quality on offer

Used examples are running around $30,316 against a $69,415 original sticker, about 44% of new. A reasonable spot for the score, but condition matters more than the headline number; verify recall completion, battery health, and service history.

Who this is for

✓ Good for

  • Daily commuter ≤50 mi/day, predictable charging

✗ Avoid if you are a

No persona-level disqualifiers — fits broadly.

Gotchas

  • Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.

Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.

  • Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (37/100).

Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 235-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 10-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

The Financing Room · What Actually Happens

Dealers make ~$9,112 on the average car loan.

After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.

The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) on my Genesis GV60 called Highway Driving Assist (HDA) would randomly turn off without warning ever since I purchased the vehicle. I use it pretty much daily for my commute to work (but have to watch closely since it turns off often without warning) and the system would randomly turn off a least a few times a day so I would need to take over quickly. Yesterday when I was driving in the carpool HOV lane in the Los Angeles area where some sections of the freeway have lane markers that are very close to the center divider and the car decided to randomly turn off ADAS without warning which resulted in a car swipe against the center divider and damaged the front bumper as well as a broken side rearview mirror. I did a random search online and found lots of complaints from other Genesis/Hyundai/Kia owners who have similar issues am surprised why nothing has been done about it so I decided to report this. The repair would cost me almost 4 thousand dollars all because of the manufacturer defect that probably could be easily fixed with over the air update. Please investigate to prevent other drivers from getting into a crash for this defective. Thanks.

My Genesis EV has experienced multiple incidents where the vehicle suddenly decelerates while driving and limits its speed to approximately 20 mph, creating a significant safety hazard. The first incident occurred in September 2025, when the vehicle unexpectedly began to decelerate on its own and would not exceed ~20 mph. I brought it to the Genesis dealership, but they were unable to reproduce the issue. The second incident occurred in November 2025, with the same failure: sudden deceleration and a maximum speed of ~20 mph. I brought the vehicle back to the dealership. They have kept the car for diagnosis but again report they “cannot reproduce” the problem. The issue remains unresolved, and Genesis has denied my buyback request. This is an intermittent EV drivetrain or power-delivery failure that prevents the vehicle from accelerating normally. If this occurs in traffic, at intersections, or during merging, it could easily lead to a collision. The vehicle is currently still at the dealership because I do not feel safe driving it. Multiple attempts to have the problem repaired have not identified the cause. I am reporting this because sudden loss of acceleration and speed limitation is a major safety issue, and other drivers may experience the same failure.

The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV60. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, it was noticed that the battery percentage was excessively draining. The charger port warning light was illuminated. The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to decrease in speed; the vehicle suddenly became difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was veered onto the sidewalk and the front driver's side of the vehicle crashed into a street lighting junction box. There was cosmetic damage however, the air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained several injuries including emotional distress, back pain, and neck pain; the contact was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance to seek medical attention. No other injured individuals were reported. The doctor diagnosed the contact with a mild concussion and prescribed medicine for nausea and headaches. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to a local Towing Service Center for a diagnosis. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,300.

My car has malfunctioned under the following circumstances: While attempting to make an unprotected left turn at a traffic light intersection (there is no left turn only light) through active lanes of opposing traffic where there is no median lane and no protective barriers between opposite directions of traffic, my vehicle has executed emergency braking on 8 separate occasions. How it happens: I wait for the last opposing traffic car to clear out from the intersection and begin to make my left turn through the intersection. 10 feet into the intersection, where now I'm in opposing traffic lanes, the car initiates sudden and immediate emergency braking. The car is brought to a jarring complete stop and becomes immobilized, hitting the accelerator pedal does not move the car. The proximity sensors are going off, the blind spot sensors are going off, the collision warnings are going off and I am unable to move the vehicle for 3 seconds. Then all the sensors and warnings clear and the accelerator pedal starts to work again. Meanwhile, there is no car in sight. By the time I started making the left turn, the closest vehicle was about 30 feet behind me going the opposite direction in opposing traffic lanes. It appears my car's sensors are picking up the car that is behind me and thinks it is coming towards me rather than away from me while I have my turn signal indicator on. The car is trying to prevent a collision that it thinks will happen but in reality that car is going in the opposite direction and is well behind me. This has happened 3 times. Other times in the same exact type of turn, the car will initiate emergency braking that brings me to a 5 mph crawl and disables the accelerator pedal. So it brings me to a crawl and I lose the ability to accelerate while in the middle of an active intersection. This has happened 5 times. Inspected by dealership and corporate engineer 10 times. Several near accidents that would have hospitalized us. We have dashcam footage.

Ever since the update that came to my car last October (update 24.11.1), the instrument cluster screen of my car does not turn on initially upon starting the car around half the time I start it. It will turn on eventually, varying in time anywhere from 1-10 minutes later. My local dealership has yet been able to fix it and tell me they have no idea why this would be happening and over the many attempts to fix this and many service appointments they now say that they need to replace the entire display but that none of available and not sure when they will be. Reading through the owners forums, I am not alone with this issue [XXX] ) Obviously, the car isn't safe to drive this way even though I continue to make my monthly payments to Genesis, so hoping someone can help me. One of the three recall problems with this car is the all wheel drive powertrain system, and it seems to be known as April 2023, but I signed a contract for the second car in September and it was finally fixed last month, which was February. The sign doesn't appear, but I can't confirm that it was fixed. The dealer who received the service was also incredible. Still tunes ⚠️ sign on and off

Over the air updates are a prominent feature of the car that Genesis touts. The car's firmware gets updated including operating issues, brake system and throttle campaigns, safety fixes, and navigation get updated. The updates have been a big issue. Earlier this year an OTA update wiped out every user setting including steering, adaptive cruise and other safety related settings. This was an annoyance but could be corrected in a couple of hours for each driver's settings. In June, a new OTA update was sent out that was corrupted. US vehicles had the update get stuck at 63% completion. My car has been at Genesis service and the head unit now needs to be replaced since there is no way (USB stick or OTA) to reset the firmware. This may affect all US vehicles. It is not obvious unless one checks on the firmware version and gets screens like the ones I've attached. Because not being able to receive updates is not obvious, Genesis should be required to notify owners if their firmware has not and cannot be updated without a head unit replacement.

I purchased a used 2023 Genesis GV60 on [XXX] from a franchised Genesis dealer in New Jersey (Genesis of Wayne, Wayne, NJ). At the time of delivery, the vehicle had an open safety recall with an available remedy and it was not completed prior to sale/delivery. After purchase, Genesis’ official recall/campaign lookup for my VIN showed at least one open safety recall listed as “Incomplete.” The dealer had represented that recalls were addressed, but Genesis’ system continued to show the safety recall as open. In 2023 & 2025, my vehicle had been brought into the Genesis dealership to complete NHTSA 24V868000 safety recall by receiving a new software (Service Campaigns 907G & 025G). However, despite that, on [XXX], the vehicle's ICCU failed while I was traveling at highway speeds. The ICCU is the primary component that the safety recall was supposed to address, yet it failed anyways. The car suddenly and dangerously reduced propulsion on the freeway, and I had to slowly maneuver the car onto the shoulder where the car then completely lost all propulsion entirely. My family and I were in the car, and our safety was at extreme risk since the car lost propulsion without warning on the freeway and other vehicles had to swerve around us. There was the very real possibility that had I not reacted quickly, that we would have been fully immobilized on the freeway, blocking traffic and creating a real safety hazard for other vehicles. There were no warning lights or any indications that the part was going to fail -- it failed immediately, and only after that did multiple warning messages appeared due to systems downstream of the ICCU failing as a result of the ICCU's failure. The dealership (Genesis of Dublin) confirmed that the failure was specific to the ICCU and the vehicle had its ICCU replaced under the 10 year powertrain warranty. I have documentation proving that the problem was caused by the ICCU's failure. In addition, the ICCU's replacement with an identical ICCU simply means this extremely dangerous hazard can occur again without warning in 1 to 2 years' time, since the replaced ICCU is the same unit that failed before - no updates to the ICCU have been announced by Genesis or its dealerships. I reiterate: the problem persists despite 24V868000 being preventative recalls completed. Recall 907G Completed 10/26/23 Recall 025G Completed 01/13/25 The above mitigations are not enough to fix the problem and avoid a dangerous situation. I leased a 2023 Genesis GV60, which was misrepresented as new but had multiple safety recalls, including ICCU battery failure, AWD/powertrain malfunction, and seatbelt defects. From the start, the seatbelts didn’t secure properly, and the car failed NY state inspection, causing me to lose a job that required a safe vehicle. Despite six visits to different service centers in 3 months, no actual repairs were completed. Mechanics admitted they didn’t understand the battery defect. The recalls later disappeared from the system without resolution. This is highly unsafe and deceptive. Genesis refused accountability, claiming they don’t control dealership practices—yet they allowed a dealer to fraudulently lease a car with recall campaigns needing VIN-specific checks. They also filed a false insurance claim under my name, inflating my premium and causing me over $33,000 in damages. I visited five other luxury dealers and confirmed that other brands do not allow demo or recall vehicles to be sold this way. Genesis’ refusal to fix or buy back the car and their attempt to cover up recall issues reveals a systemic failure in recall enforcement and corporate responsibility. I urge NHTSA to investigate.

The vehicle's instrument panel, behind steering wheel displaying things like speed and warning signs, periodically goes blank at start up for between 30 seconds and 15 minutes. There are lots of reports of this problem on sites like Redit and Genesis Forum, however, Genesis has not issued a recall for even a service bulletin. This apparently common problem is a safety hazard as the driver does not have access to critical safety information, including the vehicle's speed, for a period of time. Because this problem is periodic, it is often difficult to verify at the dealership as it does not produce fault codes. This leaves consumers in a bind as the problem persists since the dealership and manufacturer will not always address.

I leased a Genesis GV60 in July 2023. The car was under a stop sale order and had to be repaired before it was leased to me because of a known issue with the rear axle. The dealership performed the fix to the vehicle and then proceeded to lease me the vehicle. In January 2025 while driving approximately 40 MPH on a paved flat road, I experienced a sudden thud and loss of power. When I applied pressure to the accelerator a loud angry noise came from the back of the vehicle. Smoke and a burning smell came from the back of the vehicle. There were electrical issues with the car being initial unresponsive to attempts to put the car in park, unlock doors and turn off the vehicle. We left the vehicle on the side of the road. We were in a remote location in a very cold climate with no cell phone signal at dusk. We flagged down a passing-by driver for transport to a safe location where we could call Genesis Emergency Roadside assistance. The car was towed to an authorized Genesis dealership and the rear axle was replaced at no cost to me. Repair staff at the dealership confirmed that based on their inspection there was no indication that the car had experienced any type of impact / injury that could explain the fractured rear axle. In March 2025, again I was driving on a paved flat road going approximately 30 MPH. As I was approaching a stop sign, I again experienced what felt like a sudden thud, and heard a high pitched whine. When I tried to accelerate off the stop sign and cross traffic I again experienced a lack of power with an angry noise and the smell of smoke. The car was towed to the original dealership where the vehicle was purchased and it was confirmed that the rear axle had broken again just two months after having been replaced. I am unwilling to drive the vehicle again our of concern for my safety and that of others.

On 3/5/2025 I was driving my car and accelerating to 45 miles per hour when the Stop vehicle and check power supply warning on my car showed on the dash followed by a loud and starting audible tone. I pulled over to check the car and it still worked well. I then went home and tried to charge the vehicle off of our level 2 charger and the vehicle would not start to charge. I brought the car to the dealer the next day after charging the 12 volt battery overnight. I charged the 12 volt battery because the car was no longer charging it as the charging system was not working. The dealer then diagnosed that the ICCU and main fuse were broken and needed replacement. These were the problem parts that previous NHTSA recalls were issued and completed on this vehicle to address this failure. My car still failed with around 6,750 miles driven. I want to let the NHTSA know that the failures of this critical part are still happening despite the manufacturer's recalls being completed in a timely manner.

This car is fully electric. Upon start up in cold weather and for up to about 5 miles thereafter, the instrument panel remains black. This eliminates any displayed driving information including warnings, speedometer, driving mode and other items such as brake regeneration, etc. The distance traveled before the panel eventually energizes appears to be increasing. All other vehicle functions continue to operate. A saving grace for my car is that it displays the speed in the heads-up-display but all other information is unavailable. The dealer has determined that the instrument panel will be replaced under warranty. They state that the book price for the panel is in excess of $9,000! The car has approximately 23K mi at this time (1/13/2025)

When starting the car on cold mornings--parked outside, under a carport--the instrument cluster is blank. It stays blank for two to seven or so minutes, whether or not the car is being driven. This only happens on the cold days, and didn't happen last winter. When the display comes on, it doesn't register the miles that were driven while it was blank. Using the pre-warm climate function before staring the vehicle--so, warming up the car--will cause the instrument cluster to work even on cold days, but that shouldn't need a workaround.

On October 17, 2024 one of the rear axles fractured when the car was driven by a dealer employee from our home to Genesis of Kirkland (WA) to resolve another matter, necessitating towing to the dealership. It was found by the dealer service department that the rear motor was damaged also. I am not aware of the speed of the car when the incident occurred. On November 22 I was told that the axle and rear motor had been repaired. I assume the other axle was not replaced as well. Previously on September 7, 2024 the car was brought to Genesis of Everett (now Genesis of Kirkland) both rear axles were replaced after a recall indicating a manufacturing fault in the axles. There have been no warning lights, messages or other indications that the fractures were imminent. During the incident there was a loud noise and loss of propulsive power. There were no injuries reported. I have not received the vehicle back from the dealership as yet.

Sometimes after starting the car the instrument panels remain black and will not display properly for several minutes or unless the car is shutdown for a long period of time and restarted. Additionally, Genesis uses a fingerprint scan to verify who is driving the vehicle. After verifying my fingerprint the vehicle now asks me for a password even though I already verified my biometrics.

At random occurrences during car startup, the instrument cluster remains blank and can take up to several minutes to “wake up”. Since no cluster-related information such as speedometer or safety and diagnostic lights is available at this time, the car remains un-drivable until it eventually resolves. Should it occur while the car is being driven, it can pose a significant safety risk as none of the vehicle’s warning lights on the cluster are available. This problem first began to occur after the latest OTA software updated, though it’s not absolutely clear if this is the cause of the issue.

While driving down my driveway, heard a pop around the backseat on the passenger side. Right after received the following alert "Check Vehicle electric system", after driving the car for another 2-3 minutes received the following alert "Stop Vehicle and Check power supply" along with the car beeping aggressively when this came up. Returned to my house as felt unsafe to continue driving my car not knowing if the car will randomly die on me. Looking into this looks like it is associated with the ICCM which has been the subject of two recalls for which my car has had prior to this occuring.

I was reversing into my garage when I suddenly heard a loud audible pop from the back seat. I immediately knew that the High Voltage Fuse and the ICCU completely failed. A "Check Electric Vehicle System" warning showed on the dash and a "Stop vehicle and check power supply" warning appeared shortly thereafter. I noticed also that the car refused to charge with my Level 2 EVSE and the car kept saying a "Charging Unsuccessful" message. I checked my 12v battery with a multi-meter and it still showed 12.4 volts and slowly depleting. When the ICCU was functioning, it would show 14v (since it was charging the 12v battery). Furthermore, I checked with my OBD scanner any codes it would spit out and it was the dreaded P1A9096 code that a recent TSB recall check was for. I was completely up-to-date with the recall fixes and even had my ICCU software updated just 6 weeks ago and yet the ICCU still failed. Thankfully, this incident did not occur on the highway otherwise losing power on the highway can lead to an accident that can cause major injuries and/or fatalities.

The vehicle is advertised as supporting 48amp level 2 charging. After approximately one year of ownership, high amperage charging lead to overheating at the charging port, causing charging to produce errors and fail. Hyundai/Genesis released a software patch to detect overheating and throttle the amperage. This does not resolve the physical hardware that is overheating. This solution leaves the car in an unsafe operating posture where overheating could continue, leading to potentially unsafe circumstances when the vehicle is located in a garage attached to a home.

A defect is causing the level 2 chargers to overheat before my vehicles is charged. The chargers may overheat within 30 to 60 minutes of being in use. I must unplug and replug the home chargers in order to restart the charging process. The GV60 should be charged by 240-volt level 2 chargers at 48 amps in about seven hours, and it is not working as it stops and starts. I have reduced the charge rate from 11.2kw to 10.2kw and it still overheats and stops/starts. I reduced it all the way down to 6.8kw - the minimum setting on the vehicle. Genesis, Hyundai and Kia offered a software repair that does nothing to solve the charger problems. Dealerships perform the software modifications which allegedly lowers the level 2 charging speeds to avoid overheating down to 5.3kw which is less than the promised rate and this creates charging times of more than 10 hours. The Genesis/Hyundai/Kia Level 2 charger problems leaves all of us with different vehicles than advertised. Technical service bulletin (TSB) 23-EV-003h was issued to dealers due to level 2 charger problems when an electric vehicle, “intermittently stops charging before charging completes.” But the TSB never mentions how the software update will double the charging time. Genesis and Hyundai and Kia customers must allegedly manually turn down the charging current to prevent charge failures, but some vehicles allegedly suffer failures while charging at a low 28 amps. This means it will take much longer to fully charge the electric vehicles. I blame the problem on a defect in the charging port design which causes overheating. I would like Genesis/Hyundai/Kia to find a solution that restores the 11.2kw charging speed that I used to have on my GV60.

When charging nightly on home AC charge (60amp breaker) the car will stop charging after one to ten minutes for no reason. It has been increasing to the point of every time, not sometimes. I have to remotely (Genesis app) restart the charge, and sometimes physically remove and re-insert the plug to keep charging. Have come out in the morning to no overnight charge after plugging in and going to sleep. This will be even more dangerous when the northeast winter arrives and temperatures are below zero. Running out of power in those conditions could prove extremely dangerous or worse. Filed complaint with Genesis, and involved on Genesis forums, no reply from Genesis at this point. No reply as to the drive shaft recall either. Have filed complaints about both, very upset with less than 5k miles on a new car. This charging issue has occurred with increasing frequency from the first two weeks of ownership to the present, and is becoming extremely problematic.

"After a bunch of shopping around, I just leased a BMW i4 e35 to replace my Tesla as my new daily I've been in the fortunate position to have a weekend fun car + daily 2 car garage for a while. For a daily Tesla Model 3 for 4 years until I sold it last summer for almost how much I paid for it initially, right before I moved to another country. Now I'm back in the States and I need another daily again. No, despite what you hear the 718 GTS is a terrible daily driver, especially a manual one in this atrocious Pacific Northwest traffic. After 2 weeks my left calf is now visibly larger than my right one, thanks to the heavy clutch. And getting around 16 mpg when gas price is $6/gallon doesn't feel good either. The following are the cars I considered and drove: **Tesla Model 3**: Best cost/performance EV powertrain in the business. A Model 3 Performance is 15% cheaper than a Kia EV6 GT and 30% cheaper than a BMW i4 M50, while having longer range and the Tesla charger network. But I want something different this time around. I wanted something with a *premium* interior and good noise insulation, two things that I disliked the most about the Model 3. **Kia EV6**: Great packaging and good platform. Looks good from the outside, a ton of space inside, decent range and very good value. The interior material/build quality feels cheap. However the deal breaker was the seats. Something was protruding weirdly in the back against my lower spine and I couldn't get comfortable no matter what. Tried lumbar adjustment, different car, etc, didn't go away. "I Chose the Q8 etron: Here's Why There are a lot of EV choices, but here is why I chose the Q8 etron which I'll just refer to as Q8 from here on. Previously I have had 3 etrons (2019 premium plus, 2019 edition one, 2021 prestige), 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance, 2023 Genesis GV60 Performance, 2022 Audi Q4 etron, and 2023 VW ID.4. My etrons were always my favorite, but when used car prices spiked in 2021, and my job changed, it made sense to sell it. My Tesla I hated. Even if the car was perfect, the customer experience was so awful I wouldn't consider another one. No doubt Tesla has the easiest and best user experience when it comes to the app, charging, route planning, etc., However, I couldn't get over AP shutting off with every lane change ($6k EAP would fix that), the excessive noise on the highway, and the auto high beams never being able to decide if they should be on or off. The Genesis was trouble-free and I really enjoyed the fast charge times and all of the luxury features. My only complaint was the not-so-good highway efficiency (2.6-2.7 mi/kWh in 60 degree temps), which mattered to me at the time. The Q4 I really liked. It was very familiar Audi with no weird EV specific stuff that some manufacturers like to do. It got slightly better efficiency than the GV60 and it had a slightly larger useable battery pack. The only real letdown was the charging speeds. Next was the ID.4. It was significantly cheaper than the Q4, had much better charging speeds, travel assist was better, and the ride/ handling was nearly identical to the Q4. The real reason I"

I think I read that if the car doesn't have a minimum software upgrade, that an update may not work. Of course it didn't state what the minimum version of the software it required.
