Buyer brief · 218 words

The 2025 GMC Hummer EV SUV 2X puts down 1000 hp, 315 miles of EPA range and a 165 kWh battery, and a worth-pursuing score, but only after a hard inspection and a fair price.

Score read

A 75/100 makes this worth inspecting. Software and driver-assist score is the cleaner read at 99/100; owner feedback score needs more diligence at 54/100. On Reddit, owners keep flagging the same two issues: battery degradation and build quality. Use the inspection to confirm the score is not hiding deferred maintenance.

Price context

Used examples are running around $96,556. Treat that as a budgeting floor, not a final price; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase or Edmunds True Market Value for this exact trim before negotiating.

Gotchas

  • Verify Owner feedback is the part to read carefully (54/100).

Mitigation Read the complaint themes and ask whether this VIN has already had those issues repaired.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 315-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 2 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 3 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 4 Read the complaint themes, not just the count, and ask the seller whether those issues have shown up on this VIN.
  • 5 Review title, service history, tire condition, and charging-equipment records before final price.

The Financing Room · What Actually Happens

Dealers make ~$20,475 on the average car loan.

After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.

01 · Without pre-approval
+$3,115
Rate markup

78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB

With pre-approval ↓
Rate is already locked

Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.

02 · Without pre-approval
+$1,800
"What's your monthly budget?"

Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg

With pre-approval ↓
One number to negotiate

Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.

03 · Without pre-approval
+$1,775
GAP + extended warranty upsell

Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy

With pre-approval ↓
You can shop it or skip it

Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.

04 · Without pre-approval
+$13,785
Yo-yo / spot delivery

"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending

With pre-approval ↓
Financing already closed

A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.

That's 15 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.

Under full acceleration on flat, dry pavement, the vehicle suddenly pulls hard to the right or left without any steering input. The steering wheel does not move, but the vehicle abruptly changes direction, requiring immediate counter‑steering to avoid losing control. This happens every time under full acceleration and has been confirmed by two GMC dealers. GM Corporate states this is “normal,” but the behavior is unsafe and could cause a crash. Two GMC dealers reproduced the issue and confirmed the sudden directional pull under full acceleration, but both stated it is ‘normal.’ GM Corporate also acknowledged the behavior but claims it is within manufacturing tolerance. The vehicle still pulls violently to one side under full acceleration, creating a serious safety risk.

On [XXX], my [XXX] son was riding in the back seat of our 2025 GMC Hummer EV (VIN: [XXX] ) and reported his seatbelt felt loose. I pulled over and discovered the seatbelt bracket was completely detached from the vehicle frame. The bolt was present, but the nut that secures the bracket was entirely missing, leaving the belt nonfunctional and my child at risk of serious injury or death in the event of a collision. This is a catastrophic failure of a federally regulated safety system. I immediately contacted GMC and the dealership, explained the issue, and stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive. Despite this, I was told to drive the vehicle in for service on 6/9. The dealership confirmed the nut was never installed during manufacturing. However, instead of repairing the defect properly using OEM hardware and torque specs, the dealer used a generic lock nut found in their shop and said it “should hold.” No engineer signed off on the repair. There were no warning lights or messages. The issue became apparent only after my son noticed the looseness. The vehicle also has other documented issues: mirror folding failure, seat cushion defect, hydraulic frunk failure, swing gate malfunction (fixed), and a squeaky rear door. All were diagnosed on 2/28/25 and parts were ordered. I received no follow-up. When I returned on 6/9, nothing else was repaired. The advisor said the original technician had left and the new one couldn’t proceed. I also own a second 2025 Hummer EV (VIN: [XXX] ) and am now concerned about its integrity. This experience has caused ongoing emotional distress. GMC’s failure to inspect, respond, or properly repair a critical seatbelt defect demands NHTSA investigation and possible recall. A little over a month after purchasing my brand new Hummer EV 2X I was driving and then I lost all power, brakes, steering, and had to coas t to a stop. My rear motor blew and snapped my trans axle. I had only 2,000 miles on the odo. This vehicle is riddled with issues that limit its ability to use safely.

When it rains, within 24 hours, the windows do not automatically move down enough to open the door on command of pulling the door handle. This disallows the ability to close the door back if the door is open, barely underneath the lip of the sky panels. Because of this power loss, the mirrors do not open, the door locks do not work, and the windows do not work. To be able to re-close the doors, the sky panels must be removed and either left off or replaced. Essentially rain leaks into the body where wiring that controls door locks, door windows, causing electrical failure of this circuit only. After some hours of time without intervention function, restores, presumably due to drying out of wet parts.

"2025 Hummer EV SUV Wireless Charger Issues - Anyone Else Experiencing This? Hey r/HummerEV community, I recently got my 2025 GMC Hummer EV SUV 2X, and it’s an incredible machine—love the power and off-road capability! However, I’m having consistent issues with the wireless phone charger. My iPhone starts charging but drops the connection after a few seconds. Ive tried repositioning it, but no luck so far. Seems like they fixed the issue on the 2036. I’ve seen some mentions on forums about the charger being finicky in 2025 models, with phones sliding or not charging reliably. Is anyone else dealing with this? If so, have you found a fix—like adjusting the pad, using a specific case, or going aftermarket with a MagSafe charger?"

"Battery or Code/Update Issue? My friend has owned a 2025 Hummer 2X for just a little over a year, and has been having issues since January that have led him to request a buyback or trade due to repeated high-voltage battery system failures and extended time out of service. His vehicle has been in the shop a total of 30 days to date. Here’s a summary of events: Mid-January 2026 • Heat stopped working. • “Service High Voltage System” message appeared on the dash. • Rattle noise from the front driver’s side. January 19 – February 2 • Vehicle in service. • Waited one week to be seen due to no available loaner (loaner initially assigned was sold). • A/C compressor replaced due to no heat. • Software update performed. February 7 • Service light returned. • Received email from GM stating lithium-ion battery issue detected. February 18 – February 26 • Returned vehicle to dealership (waited again for loaner availability). • Repair order stated vehicle would not charge on Level 1 charger. • Connection repaired and update performed. March 3 • Vehicle would not start at all. • Dash messages: • “Charge Vehicle Soon” • “Service High Voltage System” • “Service Battery Fault” • Hours later vehicle started, but service light remained. • Received OnStar Advanced Diagnostic Report stating: “A critical issue with the lithium-ion battery in your 2025 GMC Hummer EV has been detected. Please service your vehicle immediately.” March 4 • Vehicle returned to dealership again for service. Today he received a call from the dealer and they cited a bulletin per GM PIP 6081 B that tells to look for a specific DTC code. Anyone have any experience with this code? They’re also saying there’s an issue with a battery cell, but nothing can be fixed right now until GM pushes the update. He’s contacted a Lemon Law Attorney and is working on sending all his documents to them. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask here."
