The 2022 Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback quattro packs 295 hp, 241 miles of EPA range and a 77 kWh battery, and the score gets it into the conversation; battery and service records decide whether to make an offer.
Score read
A 65/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. Build quality score is the cleaner read at 84/100; range and efficiency score needs more diligence at 36/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite software tech and owner satisfaction as recurring problems. A clean VIN lookup matters more than the headline count.
Price context
Used examples are running around $19,380. This trim started from $52,700 new, though options can push the actual sticker higher; treat the market number as your negotiation floor and pull a current KBB Fair Purchase before naming a price.

- Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (36/100).
Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 241-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

Dealers make ~$7,224 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
That's 24 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

As I was coasting into a parking space perpendicular to a curb, sidewalk, and store fronts, about a foot from the curb, the engine ROARED and rapidly accelerated. I removed my foot from the pedal and crashed into a pole supporting the canopy over the sidewalk. The impact was so great that the airbags deployed and the car bounced back onto the parking lot. Several lights on the dash illuminated while this happened and I definitely saw "Electrical Malfunction". The only way I could think to turn the engine off was to force the door open. My cat was in her hard sided carrier on the front passenger seat and the impact and air bags broke the carrier and she was ejected. Clearly the Pre-Sense Front collision warning/avoidance system did not function properly during this unintended acceleration. I am convinced that had there not been a sturdy pole directly in front of the parking space, the car would have continued to accelerate and crashed into the storefront of the restaurant directly ahead - and MANY people could have been injured or worse. The "Electrical Malfunction" light had illuminated several months earlier when starting up after being parked for a short time but when I drove the few miles home and turned it off, then on again, it did not illuminate so I forgot to report this to the dealership. This car had been returned to the dealer several times during the two years I have owned it for several recalls, an unresolved air conditioner warning light, and a "known" problem with the brakes getting locked up after getting wet.

The trunk power liftgate is often falsely activated by the foot-activated sensor. Even when your feet are not moving, if they are anywhere near the sensor it can set it off. This causes the hatch to close on you when you're standing under it with no way to stop it. This happens suddenly with very little warning. You have very little time to get out from under the liftgate.

I was hit by a large truck on the driver side as I was in the right lane catching up to a safe speed. The hit spun the car around at least 180 degrees. Due to the massive pain I couldn’t move. The car just shut off completely to include all functions. There were no prompts from the car’s emergency to call for help which I find as a fault. Luckily I was in a populated area and emergency was able to respond. I am seeing reports in forums with photo evidence that the SOS function is malfunctioning. The car is likely in a junk yard. I took the car in a month or so back for a charging module fault. Audi in Lehi claimed to have seen a significant number of faults but couldn’t identify and remedy them.

My wife was involved in an accident with her Audi Q4 E-Tron on Monday, August 7, 2023 at approximately noon. She was driving into Boulder to pick up our granddaughter from an art camp in Table Mesa. On her way to Boulder, she noticed that the lane departure warning indicator light was not working which was odd because she had been using that since she purchased the car. She was also in Drive B (regenerative braking) mode. She drove into the parking area and was pulling into a parking spot very slowly. When she moved her foot off of the accelerator towards the brake, the car lunged forward at an incredible speed. She pushed on the brake pedal with all her might, but it did not stop her from crashing into a pole, another car and the store front of Weaver’s Dive Shop. This resulted in damages that were determined to be a total loss by the insurance company. We have researched the web to determine if this situation has happened to others. We were not surprised to discover that Unintended Sudden Acceleration is a known issue. However, this occurs very rarely and happens when the car’s computer gets confused by the signals from the battery, accelerator and inverter. Dr. Ronald Best has been researching Unintended Sudden Acceleration for over 10 years and has published a number of articles which document his findings and how Unintended Sudden Acceleration can occur due to what he refers to as a design flaw. We have saved & printed out documents which address this issue. I am attaching the most relevant article by Dr. Ronald Best. State Farm, our insurance company compensated us for the total loss of our vehicle. We were not made whole because the car was 10 months old. The State Farm report is attached. We submitted a request to Audi National Customer Service to research the car to determine if there were any issues and to have them compensate us if there were issues. Attached is their response followed by our response followed by their final response.

Upon starting the car after a long (100 mile) drive many error warnings occurred and the vehicle was very difficult to drive. We only attempted to back out of the driveway so it could be towed for repair. Audi has had the car for 4 months and has been unable to diagnose the problem and fix the car.

The rearview camera does not show when the vehicle is placed in reverse gear. We found that some Audi Q4 2022 was recalled #22V823000 but our car Q4 2022 was not. Now we got this issue. We believe that we should have be recalled and should be repaired free of charge. Thank you.

What Owners Are Saying
"2024 Audi Q4 e-tron quattro 55: 1,000 km report TL/DR We wanted to replace our Tesla and chose the Q4. We love the vehicle. Does all ‘car’ stuff really well, but Audi is 10 years behind on software. Our 2013 Tesla Model S was getting long in the tooth, with brake issues no one could seem to solve. We hated giving up free and worry free Supercharging, but it was time. My wife and I sat in a Model Y. She asked how to open the glove box. I replied she had to do it from the centre screen. On the spot she declared she’d never own one. Off to Mercedes to look at the EQB. We had a deal on the table for a new 2024 EQB 300 but the sales consultant messed up horsepower and range ratings, causing us to lose faith in the process. Our deposit was refunded and we moved on to Audi. We test drove a Q4, and were impressed with the array of buttons, the adjustability of the HVAC and vents controlling airflow, and how “conventional” the interior is with Audi’s usual superb design and fit and finish. We’re in Canada, so no tax credit, but we were able to take advantage of the federal $5K rebate, another $3,450 in Audi and dealership stackable cash along with pretty good trade-ins on the Tesla and saying goodbye to my 2004 BMW 330ci convertible (sniff). We added Premium, Tech, Black Optic and Sonos packages and the dealer added the wireless phone charger which was rebated back to us. We added ceramic, all-weather floor mats to finish it up. We’ve had the vehicle for almost two weeks now, with a little over 1,200 kilometres accumulated. **Highs** * This thing is wickedly fast. 335 horsepower. Very little can keep up with it, except when we were passed on a sweeping offramp by, you guessed it, another Q4, same colour (pebblestone grey). Speed feels bottomless. * Turning circle is outstanding. Really tight and a breeze to park. * Super nimble handling. Feels really planted with excellent steering feedback. No floating of the suspension. Everything is connected and responsive. Cornering is flat, and I haven’t noticed any excessive understeer, but it’s still early days. It just doesn’t feel like an SUV. More like a sports car in SUV clothing. * I love the regen. Tap the paddle to slow down. When you hit the brakes or the accelerator, the regen reverts to off, ready for the next stop or corner. We didn’t have true one-pedal driving on our Tesla. Regen was quite aggressive but not like the newest models. Putting the Q4 in B mode simulates this. * I think of Dynamic mode as the “make your passenger car-sick” mode. Modulate speed in corners with quite aggressive regen, dart for a lane change. The characteristics of the vehicle are transformed in this setting. Change back to Auto and it’s a limousine. * It’s equipped with the Matrix LED headlights but I don’t believe their full functionality is enabled in Canada. * Really quiet interior. We said goodbye to the 11 year old Tesla’s squeaks and rattles along with the dash squeak we’ve had from day one. * Lane keeping as"
"I enjoyed that read... Thanks. Audi does indeed a great job on absolutely everything but software. Fortunately 95% of the time your on android auto/carplay and the app has enough features. You should have auto unlock/lock, but you're right in no window up and down. On other models the AC is 60 minutes. The phone app can be overlooked though as they nail everything else. People like the argue that EV demand is going down because of Tesla, I disagree. I think Tesla just now has competition, you Model S was nice but it was first gen, since then they've cut every corner as far as they can. Rented a Model Y and then a Model 3 for 2 weeks each, then a polestar and even a Chevy Bolt.. The Chevy bolt was more comfortable then the Model 3 and the Polestar 2 was just overall nicer to drive. The model Y dual motor had fast acceleration but bad handling, braking, and suspension. You need to balance a car.... The pano roofs on the Teslas were not tinted well enough, it was too hot and frustrating. It was bumpy and generally uncomfortable for 1+ hr drives. Then everything else felt like I was being nickle and dimed. I gave Tesla a shot, an honest one, Elon aside the car didn't meet my expectations. The Polestar got close but was lacking. Audi though, just nails it."

"Totally understand the OP’s frustration. I’m in the US and have been on and off the fence about buying an EV for more than two years. I don’t NEED a new car, so I have been taking a long time trying out different EV models, through test drives and multi-day rentals, to assess how well an EV would fit in my life. I’m glad I’ve waited because (a) modestly used EVs sell for about 50% off in the US now, (b) most companies are increasing the range a bit each year, and (c) I’ve seen how frustrating the range issue is if you drive longer distances. I loved the Audi Q4 the moment I saw it, especially the Sportback version. It looks and feels far more luxurious than a Tesla. And I’ve driven the Q4 a couple times now and really like how it drives. But the range issue bothers me, and the OP’s comments align completely with my hesitation on pulling the trigger to get one of these despite the fact that Q4s and the original e-Tron SUVs sell for less than 50% of the original MSRP here after 2 years. I’m pretty sure the less-than-stellar range has crushed their sales and resale. If I only drove from my home to my office and local errand runs, I could probably deal with the range issue: I have free charging at my office and would add home-charging. But we tend to take a lot of 200-500 mile weekend trips, and because my wife is never ready on time (yes, too much info), we are always rushing. When I’ve rented EVs, I find myself checking into a hotel late at night after a long drive, helping my wife get settled into the room, and then heading out to the closest charge port. I’ve tried booking hotels that advertise charging ports but have often discovered that they are either being used by others, broken, or trickle power so slowly to be nearly worthless. I still might buy one – especially at such discounted used rates – but I probably would consider it my “local driving” car, while keeping a regular gas vehicle for trips."

"Totally relate to this, waisted about 2 years ago from seeing release to delivered in US. Loved the car to start but opposite of your experience, in the winter or cooler month in Arizona was greatly. Summer is when had ongoing AC issues, 2 compressors changed and continued to have AC not work in Arizona 115 degree in heat. Was out of service for overnight 40 days then had to go to mediation to force Audi to buy back car after dealer originally offered thats asking option or replace. This was my main concern since could not survive in that heat, but had otherwise issues from the charging errors, failed to start, couldn't release charging plug, infotainment glitches, poor breaks and hatch opening when not around. Didn't live up to my Audi expectations at all compared to our Q5. Will be done with Audi unfortunately after ready to upgrade the Q5 and glad no longer have the Q4 after they were forced to buy it back. Wish you luck with yours, since I know potential is there and had a love for it."
"I once was a fan of my Q4 (Audi Q4 e-tron 2023) Like the title says – I used to *love* my Q4 back in 2023. After waiting almost two years between ordering and finally getting it delivered, I was genuinely happy and excited. It had been my dream car from the moment I first saw it, and picking it up in Ingolstadt was a really special moment for me. At first, everything was great. It was summer, the battery was new, and I was easily getting around 400 km of range (charging to 80%, which I always did). That completely matched my needs. But fast forward two years, and now in the middle of winter, things look very different. Today, for example, I charged at an Audi Charging Hub up to 70%, and the estimated range was just 235 km. Yes, I know — it’s cold, batteries degrade over time, and winter efficiency is always worse. Even though today it was actually around +2°C, not extreme cold at all. Still… after almost 60,000 km, I have to say I’m pretty disappointed. I honestly don’t see myself getting another Q4, as much as I love the design and Audi as a brand. 200-ish kilometers of real-world range just isn’t enough anymore. Or rather: it *could* be enough if charging were fast. But especially in winter, the car rarely pulls more than 80 kW (instead of the advertised 125–130 kW). Charging from around 10% to 80% regularly takes 40 minutes or more. And since I have to do this almost daily because of my commute, it really adds up. On top of that, charging prices here in Germany are so high that it’s barely cheaper than driving a petrol car — especially since I don’t have a wallbox at home. I know there are explanations for all of this. I know about battery chemistry, winter losses, charging curves, and so on. That’s not really my point. My point is that, taken as a whole, the experience over the past two years has been disappointing. Between the range, the charging times, and a few other issues I’ve had along the way, the initial excitement is pretty much gone. Maybe some of you can relate. And if not — thanks for letting me vent a little. It actually helped getting this off my chest."
