The 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron 40 puts down 201 hp, 265 miles of EPA range and a 77 kWh battery, and a worth-pursuing score, but only after a hard inspection and a fair price.
Score read
A 61/100 makes this a high-risk buy. Do not let the composite hide this split: software and driver-assist score is 79/100, while range and efficiency score is 42/100. On Reddit, owners keep flagging the same two issues: software tech and owner satisfaction. Documented completion matters more than the recall count itself.
Price context
The original sticker was $49,800. Used pricing varies by miles, condition, and how this model is moving in the market; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase or Edmunds True Market Value for this exact trim and anchor your offer there, not the sticker.

- $ Bargain hunter Best TCO, reliability + low depreciation
Gotchas
- Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.
Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.
- Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (42/100).
Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.
- Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.
Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 265-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

Dealers make ~$8,669 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
That's 21 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

On March 20, 2026, while my 2022 Audi Q4 e-tron (VIN: [XXX] ) was parked in my private garage at approximately 98% battery charge, I attempted to start the vehicle and experienced a complete electrical system failure. All electronic systems failed simultaneously, including: brake system (Brake System Failure warning displayed), parking brake sensor, traffic/charging system, power windows, and side view mirrors. The vehicle could not be placed into neutral. AAA was dispatched and the vehicle required a jump-start to the 12-volt auxiliary system before it could be moved. The vehicle was towed to Audi Beverly Hills for inspection. The dealership diagnosed the fault as: Control Module Main Processor Performance, Symptom Code 20079, per Technical Service Bulletin TSB 2074484/3. Per that TSB, the dealer was instructed by Audi of America to create a PSS (Pending Service Solution) record, erase the fault memory, and release the vehicle to me with no repair performed. The stated guidance from Audi of America to the dealer was to inform me that this is "an extremely infrequent fault" that is "being reviewed." No fix exists. No timeline for a fix has been provided. The vehicle was released to me with the underlying defect unresolved. This is a known, manufacturer-acknowledged defect with no current remedy. As a fully electric vehicle, the Q4 e-tron's braking and all safety systems are electronically dependent. A recurrence of this fault while driving presents an unreasonable safety risk. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether TSB XXX /3 and Symptom Code 20079 warrant a formal safety recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

At least a dozen times, while accelerating from a complete stop, the car has experienced sudden unintended very hard braking without driver input. After very hard brake, car falls out of gear and needs to be restarted and put back in gear. -In clear, dry, temperate weather -Day and night -In drive and reverse -While accelerator engaged -Not touching brake pedal -No obstacles, pedestrians or vehicles present that would require braking -No warnings, alerts or messages on screen -Occurs randomly, nothing to indicate braking is needed -Most recent incident, on flat, familiar road, clear, temperate weather, no obstacles, car unexpectedly braked after accelerating from traffic light, fell out of gear and would not go back into gear for several minutes, resulting in near rear-end collision with multiple vehicles behind that did not expect sudden stop while accelerating. Eventually car would drive a short distance then hard brake, slip out of gear, not be able to drive. This was repeated 4 times before finally being able to drive without failure. -Audi inspected, could not reproduce the issue. It occurs very randomly, so it’s difficult to reproduce on demand. -No fault codes were found or stored -Dealer said without being able to reproduce it there was nothing to be done. I asked for TAC case to be opened for assistance. They strongly refused but eventually agreed. Case was opened but immediately rejected (within minutes). Later they said it was rejected for missing info, including location of incidents, which they never asked me for and I could have provided. Sudden random very hard braking and going into park while accelerating, then not being able to drive, with no warnings or fault codes, is a safety hazard. This has happened many times over a year. Other vehicles can crash into an unexpected stopped car in traffic. The last time I came within a millisecond of a major crash.

Car had electrical malfunction warning please contact costumer support and car died and zero damage to the body or the car. But the side air bags faulty went off. This car had a prior recall on file for same issues of car dying off and clerical problems. I got this car in September 2025 and had issue with it within the second month of having this car. I was not told there was a prior recall at all.

The contact owned a 2024 Audi Q4 E-tron. The contact stated upon driving into the parking lot of an occupied charging station at 30-35 MPH and attempting to pull into the charging station, the vehicle accelerated unintendedly and spun several times. The contact stated that she depressed the brake pedal and attempted to steer the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact pressed the Push to Start button to stop the vehicle, but the passenger's side of the vehicle hit and knocked down a small tree, crashed into an embankment, and the vehicle stopped. The air bags did not deploy. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to exit the vehicle. There was no injury sustained. No police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to G & C Auto Body(3440 Stanley Blvd, Pleasanton, CA 94566) to be repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to tow the vehicle to their location after the body repair because they would need to read the EDR to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired by G & C Auto Body and was deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

My Audi Q4 Etron has had this issue since it was new. The car has a sensor as part of the drivers seat. Once you sit in the seat the car turn on and you can start driving. The problem is if you make any movements, like turn to look back while your backing the car up or you reach over to pick up something off the passenger front seat the car will abruptly stop and turn off. It can take up to two minutes for the car to start again, twice i was left in the middle of a four lane intersection stranded. The second time it nearly caused an accident as multiple cares slammed their brakes. The dealership said that its a common complaint but there in nothing they can do, i was told to stay seated and to not move while driving. My wife also got stranded blocking an intersection and it also almost caused an accident, she was so scared that she will not drive the car or ride in it when im driving. Audi need to fix this before someone gets killed. I hope you can help.

I am filing this complaint due to ongoing electronic and drivetrain malfunctions that may impact safe vehicle operation. AWD System Malfunction (Primary Safety Concern) The vehicle repeatedly displays four-wheel drive system malfunction warnings. I have brought the vehicle to the dealership three times for this same issue. The malfunction continues unresolved, raising concerns about traction, stability, and drivetrain reliability. Intermittent Entry Failure Biometric entry intermittently fails, forcing use of the key fob. This could delay access in emergency situations. Remote System Failures Remote vehicle functions (lock/unlock and climate control) operate inconsistently or fail entirely, often generating error messages. Audi has stated this is a system infrastructure issue with no current fix. Battery Power Inconsistency Although the battery indicates 100% charge, actual available power never reaches full output and drops shortly after driving. This creates uncertainty about vehicle performance and usable range. HUD Feature Does Not Perform as Advertised The head-up display does not show surrounding vehicle speeds as advertised, only colored indicators. This removes expected situational awareness information. Summary The vehicle exhibits repeated drivetrain warnings, electronic access failures, and inconsistent battery performance. These issues persist despite multiple service visits. I am requesting this complaint be formally recorded and investigated due to potential safety implications.

I was stopped in line at a drive through. The car started rolling (electric cars should not do that) so I tapped the brakes. The car started accelerating and I started braking hard and the car just sped up. Auto braking and collision warning did not kick in. The car slammed into the car parked in front of me and drove it forward about 10 feet. The driver has soft tissue injuries as do I. In the past, it has also lost acceleration while driving did not respond to the gas pedal. I frequently get warnings that the safety features are temporarily not working.

When vehicle is energized and in Neutral "gear" the vehicle makes no sound. I understand that federal safety standards indicate that when in this status, the vehicle should generate a sound so pedestrians can hear it. The vehicle does NOT generate a Vehicle Sound malfunction alert when this occurs (and it should). This condition is reproducible all the time. The service manager at Audi Dallas witnessed this condition and verified that it also occurred on a similar vehicle he had on the lot. I called NHTSA several months ago to report this, but I cannot find a record of it online so am repeating the report. If you do have a record of it, this is a redundant report.

I am reporting multiple ongoing electrical system malfunctions on my 2024 Audi Q4 55 e-tron SUV that create a safety risk, including sudden loss of functionality and warnings instructing me to stop driving. These issues began approximately two months after I purchased the vehicle and continue to occur. The car has been at Audi Bellevue for the second times since 11/5/2025. The car with error was initially dropped off at the dealership on 09/27/2025. The vehicle repeatedly and sporadically displays the following warnings (even when at Audi dealership. “Electrical system". Malfunction! “Safety system: fault” See owners manual “Vehicle sound: malfunction” Pedestrians cannot hear vehicle. Please contact service (when the car is being driven) During some of these events, vehicle drivability is compromised, systems shut down unexpectedly, and the car instructs me to exit or stop driving. This creates a potential risk of loss of power while driving. The vehicle has been at Audi Bellevue now for approximately four weeks since 11/5/2025 attempting diagnosis and repair. I was informed that the dealership opened a TAC (technical assistance case) with Audi corporate, but they have not been able to resolve the issue. I was also told there is a related issue affecting the Audi e-tron GT and that the fix for that model cannot be applied to my Q4. My vehicle appears to be part of the national recall 25V125000 (Audi recall 93FR) covering the on-board charger/DC-DC converter (OCDC) that can fail and result in 12-volt battery depletion and loss of drive power. I have not been informed whether parts for this recall are available or whether my vehicle has been repaired under this recall. This is a safety-critical issue, and the repeated failures and warnings make the vehicle unreliable and potentially hazardous to drive. I am requesting that NHTSA document this defect and investigate whether other 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron SUVs are experiencing similar electrical failures.

have signed a lease on an Audi Q4 S line prestige and picked it up Saturday [XXX] afternoon, leaving the dealership the car had a yellow warning light, I texted sales team who said it’s ok. On the drive home (Oakland to West SJ), while driving on [XXX] (about 30 min in) the driver door opened while driving, I had to stop on side of freeway and close the door. 5 min later I got home, by then battery warning was red I stopped in my driveway and called dealership who asked me to drive car to service in Steven’s creek, however the car refused to go into gear and just stopped. Our Audi has 13k miles. We noticed large chunks of rubber pulling away on the treads with pieces large enough to put our finger into. The dealer says they have seen this problem before with this tire

"2024 Audi Q4 e-tron quattro 55: 1,000 km report TL/DR We wanted to replace our Tesla and chose the Q4. We love the vehicle. Does all ‘car’ stuff really well, but Audi is 10 years behind on software. Our 2013 Tesla Model S was getting long in the tooth, with brake issues no one could seem to solve. We hated giving up free and worry free Supercharging, but it was time. My wife and I sat in a Model Y. She asked how to open the glove box. I replied she had to do it from the centre screen. On the spot she declared she’d never own one. Off to Mercedes to look at the EQB. We had a deal on the table for a new 2024 EQB 300 but the sales consultant messed up horsepower and range ratings, causing us to lose faith in the process. Our deposit was refunded and we moved on to Audi. We test drove a Q4, and were impressed with the array of buttons, the adjustability of the HVAC and vents controlling airflow, and how “conventional” the interior is with Audi’s usual superb design and fit and finish. We’re in Canada, so no tax credit, but we were able to take advantage of the federal $5K rebate, another $3,450 in Audi and dealership stackable cash along with pretty good trade-ins on the Tesla and saying goodbye to my 2004 BMW 330ci convertible (sniff). We added Premium, Tech, Black Optic and Sonos packages and the dealer added the wireless phone charger which was rebated back to us. We added ceramic, all-weather floor mats to finish it up. We’ve had the vehicle for almost two weeks now, with a little over 1,200 kilometres accumulated. **Highs** * This thing is wickedly fast. 335 horsepower. Very little can keep up with it, except when we were passed on a sweeping offramp by, you guessed it, another Q4, same colour (pebblestone grey). Speed feels bottomless. * Turning circle is outstanding. Really tight and a breeze to park. * Super nimble handling. Feels really planted with excellent steering feedback. No floating of the suspension. Everything is connected and responsive. Cornering is flat, and I haven’t noticed any excessive understeer, but it’s still early days. It just doesn’t feel like an SUV. More like a sports car in SUV clothing. * I love the regen. Tap the paddle to slow down. When you hit the brakes or the accelerator, the regen reverts to off, ready for the next stop or corner. We didn’t have true one-pedal driving on our Tesla. Regen was quite aggressive but not like the newest models. Putting the Q4 in B mode simulates this. * I think of Dynamic mode as the “make your passenger car-sick” mode. Modulate speed in corners with quite aggressive regen, dart for a lane change. The characteristics of the vehicle are transformed in this setting. Change back to Auto and it’s a limousine. * It’s equipped with the Matrix LED headlights but I don’t believe their full functionality is enabled in Canada. * Really quiet interior. We said goodbye to the 11 year old Tesla’s squeaks and rattles along with the dash squeak we’ve had from day one. * Lane keeping as"
"2024 Audi Q4 e-tron 10,000 km report I gave my impressions on out Q4 e-tron after 1,000km in another post. Here’s what I’ve found at 10K. We have the 55 with the Premium, Tech, Black Optic and Sonos sound system packages. The tl/dr on this is; great car doing car things. Reliable range, fast charging, comfortable and feels luxurious. The software sucks and the app blows chunks. Would I buy another one? Ask me again if the connectivity drops out. **Highs** The Q4 continues to be a delight to drive. Quick, nimble and quiet, it can more than get out of its own way. The Sonos audio system is excellent especially with Apple Music. You can hear the difference between SiriusXM (overly compressed and is it sped up a bit?) and Apple music. Controls are easy to use, easy to find and quick to choose. The physical controls were a huge selling point for us. Range has been great; the real world highway mileage seems to be accurately reflected in the GOM estimate. We took a roughly 3500 km trip in August, and never feared running out of electrons. We were able to use a number of Electrify Canada stations along the way which charged super-fast. We abandoned these for the trip home, preferring to pay for charging along the way and save time on the road. I think we probably saved about 3 hours total on the return trip since we didn’t have to hunt around to find the EA chargers (usually located well into the city rather than just off the highway). Another shorter trip in October resulted in the same performance during a warm snap; easily getting 400km+ on a charge (I’d usually start from 100%) on these trips. Fast charging was a bit hit and miss at time. I had to play the charger hop game at one station; the first two chargers simply didn’t work, but got lucky the third time. We were never stranded as I always kept 100km of range in the bank (new car, new car range paranoia). If you’re travelling in eastern Ontario, Quebec or the Maritimes, an Electric Circuit account is a must. We stopped at Saint-Louis-de-Blandford off Hwy 20 in Quebec, where they have 24 fast chargers plus Tesla chargers. A number of these were drive-throughs for trucks/SUVs towing trailers. The closest thing to a Tesla Supercharger station I’ve seen so far. The lane keeping and distance pacing continues to impress. The lane keeping only got fooled once during our trip, where someone had run over some road lines and their tires painted the lane to the left of the actual right-side lane boundary. Warning buzzers and lights went off demanding I take over. Resuming cruise control from a stop is very nice. Most vehicles I’ve driven, you have to get up past 40 km/h or more before it will reengage. We’ve only had one phantom braking event. We were in stop and go traffic coming into Montreal and creeping alon"
"Looking at my Audi phone app today, I noticed a change in the app. In the driving data page, there is now an option to "export your trip data." I was VERY glad to see this, because the old app (before the October 2025 update) had this feature, and I used it every month so I can track and... 8276Dactylonian replied Mar 13, 2026 Audi Q4 e-tron General Discussion Forum jimmccormick80 Mar 14, 2026 GPS and myAudi app The GPS on my 2022 Q4 stopped working accurately nine months ago. "I enjoyed that read... Thanks. Audi does indeed a great job on absolutely everything but software. Fortunately 95% of the time your on android auto/carplay and the app has enough features. You should have auto unlock/lock, but you're right in no window up and down. On other models the AC is 60 minutes. The phone app can be overlooked though as they nail everything else. People like the argue that EV demand is going down because of Tesla, I disagree. I think Tesla just now has competition, you Model S was nice but it was first gen, since then they've cut every corner as far as they can. Rented a Model Y and then a Model 3 for 2 weeks each, then a polestar and even a Chevy Bolt.. The Chevy bolt was more comfortable then the Model 3 and the Polestar 2 was just overall nicer to drive. The model Y dual motor had fast acceleration but bad handling, braking, and suspension. You need to balance a car.... The pano roofs on the Teslas were not tinted well enough, it was too hot and frustrating. It was bumpy and generally uncomfortable for 1+ hr drives. Then everything else felt like I was being nickle and dimed. I gave Tesla a shot, an honest one, Elon aside the car didn't meet my expectations. The Polestar got close but was lacking. Audi though, just nails it."
"Totally relate to this, waisted about 2 years ago from seeing release to delivered in US. Loved the car to start but opposite of your experience, in the winter or cooler month in Arizona was greatly. Summer is when had ongoing AC issues, 2 compressors changed and continued to have AC not work in Arizona 115 degree in heat. Was out of service for overnight 40 days then had to go to mediation to force Audi to buy back car after dealer originally offered thats asking option or replace. This was my main concern since could not survive in that heat, but had otherwise issues from the charging errors, failed to start, couldn't release charging plug, infotainment glitches, poor breaks and hatch opening when not around. Didn't live up to my Audi expectations at all compared to our Q5. Will be done with Audi unfortunately after ready to upgrade the Q5 and glad no longer have the Q4 after they were forced to buy it back. Wish you luck with yours, since I know potential is there and had a love for it."

Audi support had reset/relinked my account earlier this week in an attempt to improve connectivity stability and also had to enroll again in the car. But didn't help, when I drive, it can briefly show in the app but as soon as I leave the car the data is empty and no climate/charging control. I spoke on Thursday with Audi support and they suggested me to go to dealer and ask for an OCU module update as there are apparently updates to improve stability. My model is q4 45 2024 (1.5 years old, and the app was unstable for sending commands to the car since day 1 but last month it became unusable). It took for me 19 days to get a response from Audi connect support when I sent an issue in the Audi app, so they're not ignoring but I assume they have a huge backlog to go through. > > > Click to expand... "In my case it wasn't working for 4 weeks during the coldest period of the year. Last year I remember it didn't work either during the whole 2 week Christmas holiday and I took your approach and it did indeed resolve itself. This time I was fed up with it and called Audi and indeed they did stuff and made it worse as now I don't see the information in the app unless I start my car. At least I know I am lagging updates so a dealer visit might improve it. > GMF said: > > Ah OCU module. Online Communications Unit. Later models (45,55) have different software. What that means for individual modules, who knows? > jerrebxl said: > > I got it on mail from Audi support my OCU missing updates; they've sent an internal note to my dealer to update this so they know what to do in case I get there. > > View attachment 20017 > > Click to expand... > GMF said: > > Thanks very much. "> How can it take 5 months get a replacement part on a new Audi? Audi has to be the sh1ttiest car company in the world. How can your dealer not get the part quicker? > > > Click to expand... Beats me. I expect its a part they have to have shipped from Germany. Could probably find one quicker from a pick and pull off a wreck. Enough Q4's out there by now for someone to have totaled it. #9· May 7, 2023 Rattles in a car are inevitable, but this is very frustrating when they happen in a new car. Car rattles happening after 100k miles down the road are understandable but still frustrating - it can be like chasing a ghost. It appears the logistical system in place for the Q4 or e-tron, for that matter, is non-existent. This is poor planning by AUDI. I assume they are using HOPE as a strategy for failing parts. Maybe consider yourself lucky? My rear motor failed in my new Q4 and the part is maybe 7-10 weeks out, but they really don't know. Here is my thread: **Q4 e-tron FAIL - Rear Drive Motor FAIL** Q4 e-tron FAIL - Rear Drive Motor FAIL"
