Buyer brief · 303 words

The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV 2M20 packs 1000 hp, 303 miles of EPA range and a 205 kWh battery, and the score gets it into the conversation; battery and service records decide whether to make an offer.

Score read

A 69/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. The useful split is software and driver-assist score at 96/100 versus owner feedback score at 49/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite software tech and battery degradation as recurring problems. If the seller cannot show recall completion, price that risk or move on.

Price context

This trim started from $96,550 new. Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.

Who this is for

✗ Avoid if you are a

  • Road tripper Long trips, needs DC fast network

Bargain hunter Best TCO, reliability + low depreciation

Gotchas

  • Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.

Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.

  • Verify Owner feedback is the part to read carefully (49/100).

Mitigation Read the complaint themes and ask whether this VIN has already had those issues repaired.

  • Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.

Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 303-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Read the complaint themes, not just the count, and ask the seller whether those issues have shown up on this VIN.

The Financing Room · What Actually Happens

Dealers make ~$15,709 on the average car loan.

After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.

While operating my 2024 GMC Hummer EV at a low speed in a school zone, I came to a complete stop at a stop sign and began making a left turn. As I initiated the turn, the steering wheel suddenly locked and became unresponsive. I was unable to turn the wheel back to the right or regain control of the vehicle’s direction. At the same time, the vehicle did not respond as expected when attempting to stop. Because I could not steer or properly control the vehicle, I collided with another vehicle. The impact with the other vehicle is what ultimately brought my vehicle to a stop. During the incident, multiple warning messages appeared on the dashboard, including a message indicating: “Service Steering System.” My vehicle sustained minimal damage due to its height (a bent side step), however the other vehicle sustained damage. Police responded to the scene and a report was filed. I was NOT issued a citation. (see report attached) The vehicle has since been towed to Northwest Hills Chevy/GMC in Torrington CT for inspection by the GMC manufacturer. This incident raises serious safety concerns, as the sudden loss of steering control at low speed could have resulted in significantly more severe consequences under different circumstances. I was in a school zone at dismissal time going to pick up my son. This appears to be a potential mechanical or electronic steering system failure. I believe this represents a serious safety defect that should be investigated to prevent similar incidents.

The frunk latch on the vehicle becomes faulty and does not recognize the hood being latched and secure when it is. While driving, the vehicle without warning will immediately limit speed to 26mph regardless of existing vehicle speed. This has occurred multiple times when driving on the highway with the vehicle immediately decelerating and then saying the hood (frunk) is open. This poses a serious danger to not only the occupants of the vehicle but also those around them on the highway. This occurred when traveling at highway speed in the middle lane. This resulted in the inability to change lanes to pull off the highway due to the drastic reduction in speed in reference to the other vehicles on the highway causing a high stress and high risk situation for the driver and occupants.

On August 11, 2025, at about 2:52pm, my vehicle was at a complete stop at an intersection awaiting the traffic light to turn green. There was a slight downgrade slope towards the intersection. The vehicle one-pedal driving was enabled. Weather was sunny with no wind or rain. Suddenly, the vehicle started vibrating violently and started rolling into the intersection. I pressed on the brake pedal but the vehicle continued to vibrate and the vehicle rolled into the middle of the adjoining lane of traffic. There was no traffic on the roadway and no other vehicles were affected. My vehicle had come to a compete stop in the roadway and I attempted to accelerate through the intersection but the vehicle would not move. I recycled the power to the vehicle and placed the vehicle into drive and proceeded to drive through the intersection. I do recall that when I was pressing the brake pedal, the vibration felt somewhat similar to vibration of the ABS brake system when the tires are losing traction but the vibration was much more pronounced. I pulled the vehicle onto the side of the road and checked the driver information display. A "Service ESC" notification appeared on the driver information panel followed by "One-Pedal Driving Unavailable Use Brake for Stopping". No other warnings or notifications were observed after this incident and the vehicle seems to be driving normally. I was able to re-enable the one-pedal driving mode the next morning.

Super cruise does not work. It may turn on at random for a minute or 2 and then it shuts off with zero warning and the vehicle almost comes to a complete stop. This is a huge safety concern. I took it to the dealership and they told me that this falls on GM 100% as they are being told GMs engineers are trying to find a fix but for now there is nothing they can do, I am to continue driving it knowing this is unsafe. The turn signals and Bluetooth stopped functioning for no reason which had to be fixed Battery charging module burned up at 300 miles. I asked for a buy back and GM refused. I asked for an engineer to come on site and they refused to set it up unless something else is happening as if this super cruise issue isn’t enough. I filed a complaint with the BBB hoping to get the attention of someone who would actually realize how unsafe this is and that same person from GM lied and said I declined assistance. I asked that lady for help and she stated that it would have to wait until something else happened.

The windshield wipers do not work. When the wipers are turned on, the spray comes on and does not turn off. You are unable to see as the spray keeps spraying the entire time the wipers are on. I took the dealer twice and they have been unable to repair. They now say are waiting for parts. I can't be the only one. This is very concerning. Luckily I live in Las Vegas and we have little rain. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? wipers and yes How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? You literally can't see if you use the wipers. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes been to service twice. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The Dealer only. GM does not seem to care. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning. I turned on wipers when it was raining. Luckily I was close to home. You cant see. Super dangerous.

"2026 GMC Hummer EV 2026 GMC Hummer EV Updated GMC site Text Via Motor Trend Updates to the 2026 GMC Hummer For the 2026 model year, the Hummers add bi-directional charging to allow vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-vehicle charging capability. The 2026 Hummer will have three new exterior and three new interior colors, a new off-road wheel design, a higher-resolution infotainment screen, and enhanced Super Cruise for hands-free driving with lane change. The 2026 Carbon Fiber Edition trucks and SUVs have their own distinctive matte gray exterior and ember interior, unique 22-inch carbon fiber black wheels, all-terrain tires, carbon fiber inserts in the hood, mirror caps and skid plate, black approach shield and tonneau cover. Production begins at Factory Zero later this year. Pricing has not been announced. WTF Launch More Neck Snapping By optimizing the software and propulsion calibration, engineers say they have shaved 0.2 second off the launch time in the 2026 Hummer EV pickup. With its large 24-module battery pack and two motors in the rear and one up front for a combined 1,160 hp and about 1,200 lb-ft of torque, the improvements spell a new time: 2.8 seconds to hit 60 mph. Add King Crab to the Menu One of the most eye-catching Hummer tricks is Crab Walk, where the four wheels are pointed in the same direction, allowing the truck to scuttle ahead on a diagonal path to get out of tight situations. The King Crab off-road rear-steer mode has the front and rear wheels turned in opposite directions, with the rear wheels spinning significantly faster, to help make, say, a sharp angled maneuver around a tree. It helps the rear end of the vehicle swing around, avoiding a two- or three-point turn. It also makes it easier to find good placement if stuck going up loose rocks for more traction to try again. Camera views show the position of the wheels, as well as the terrain they are covering. King Crab allows the driver to position the truck more accurately and execute with greater precision. We rode along on an off-road course where the wide truck made sharp turns around trees that would have required a multi-point turn without the feature. King Crab will be standard across the 2X and 3X Pickup and SUV trims for the 2026 model year. It will also go out to all 2022 through 2025 Hummer EV pickup and SUV owners through an over-the-air update later this year."

"Battery or Code/Update Issue? My friend has owned a 2025 Hummer 2X for just a little over a year, and has been having issues since January that have led him to request a buyback or trade due to repeated high-voltage battery system failures and extended time out of service. His vehicle has been in the shop a total of 30 days to date. Here’s a summary of events: Mid-January 2026 • Heat stopped working. • “Service High Voltage System” message appeared on the dash. • Rattle noise from the front driver’s side. January 19 – February 2 • Vehicle in service. • Waited one week to be seen due to no available loaner (loaner initially assigned was sold). • A/C compressor replaced due to no heat. • Software update performed. February 7 • Service light returned. • Received email from GM stating lithium-ion battery issue detected. February 18 – February 26 • Returned vehicle to dealership (waited again for loaner availability). • Repair order stated vehicle would not charge on Level 1 charger. • Connection repaired and update performed. March 3 • Vehicle would not start at all. • Dash messages: • “Charge Vehicle Soon” • “Service High Voltage System” • “Service Battery Fault” • Hours later vehicle started, but service light remained. • Received OnStar Advanced Diagnostic Report stating: “A critical issue with the lithium-ion battery in your 2025 GMC Hummer EV has been detected. Please service your vehicle immediately.” March 4 • Vehicle returned to dealership again for service. Today he received a call from the dealer and they cited a bulletin per GM PIP 6081 B that tells to look for a specific DTC code. Anyone have any experience with this code? They’re also saying there’s an issue with a battery cell, but nothing can be fixed right now until GM pushes the update. He’s contacted a Lemon Law Attorney and is working on sending all his documents to them. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask here."

"Canada (BC): 2024 Hummer EV SUV U1967 + severe infotainment lag. Telematics module backordered. Anyone dealt with this cycle? Hi all, looking for Canada-specific experience and advice. I leased a 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV in BC, Canada and immediately had severe infotainment performance issues (extreme lag/freezing, especially navigation). The vehicle was diagnosed at the dealer and they documented DTC U1967 and advised a Telematics Control Module replacement. The part recorded is #86551206 and it’s currently backordered (no firm ETA). I’ve been told the vehicle is “safe to drive,” but GPS/nav functionality is impacted until the module is replaced. My concern is getting stuck in a repeat cycle: one module replaced, then they say another module is needed, then another backorder, and the original performance issue continues. Questions: 1. Has anyone had U1967/telematics module replacement actually resolve the lag/freezing, or did it lead to additional module replacements? 2. If you’re in Canada, what escalation path actually worked (GM Canada customer care, executive review, CAMVAP, etc.)? 3. What documents should I insist on in writing from the dealer (RO copy, job narrative, SPS2 printouts, parts order status fields)? I can share more details if helpful, but I’m trying to keep this focused and factual. Thanks. My symptoms closely match what GM describes in the published program/bulletin remedies I’ve referenced (Gateway/Serial Data Gateway Module update and Chassis Control Module-related performance remedy), but I’m still getting pushback on evaluating the full scope and sequencing in writing."
