I was stopped at an intersection in the left turn lane heading southeast at a busy intersection. Left turn signal was on and within 3 minutes of getting to the intersection the vehicle experiences an uncommanded full power acceleration into a very busy intersection. To avoid oncoming traffic, I veered to the right while breaking which did not stop the vehicle. Avoiding a traffic pole and continuing into a business empty parking lot which usually is not empty due to loitering in the area, and avoiding the building the vehicle continued accelerating at a high rate of speed and was stopped only because it hit a metal pole which was hidden by a large bush on the side of the business. If the pole would have not stopped the vehicle it would have continued into oncoming traffic in the north bound lane. Air bags were deployed. The only visible injury I received was burns from the airbag on my right arm and sever busing on my abdomen which has taken 4 months to resolve. The police were on the scene immediately, my insurance company representatives have seen the videos produce by myself and Tesla sent to me via email. The insurance had put a hold on the vehicle which was towed to Carparts. Tesla has never contacted me or my insurance company that I know of besides my request by email for the additional data. I have driven a Tesla model S for 7 yrs prior to purchasing the Model X. The Model X had an incident once that it stopped on its own while I was driving on an interstate. I veered to the right to get off the highway and thankful no one was behind me. There wasn't any indication that anything was wrong and may have been something corrected by an automatic update which dealt with exiting right off a highway which I was not doing but this incident never happened again.

This warning appeared more times than I can count over the following months. In most instances the warning appeared but the steering continued to function normally. On approximately March 2, 2026, the warning appeared and for the first time the steering became extremely difficult to turn, requiring significantly increased physical effort to control the vehicle. The first physical failure occurred while parking at low speed in reverse. The steering failure also occurred subsequently while driving at highway speeds. In both instances I stopped the vehicle, exited, waited briefly, and upon re-entering the vehicle the warning cleared and steering returned to normal. This same sequence repeated the following day. The vehicle was brought to a Tesla authorized service center on March 13, 2026. Tesla's technician confirmed the steering assist reduction as reported and determined the steering gear required full replacement. The failed part, steering gear left hand drive part number 1070801-00-F, was replaced. Only full hardware replacement resolved the issue permanently. Prior power cycling provided only temporary relief. My safety was directly at risk. I am a full-time rideshare driver operating at highway speeds. The failed component has been replaced and is in Tesla's possession. Tesla is charging the full repair cost out of pocket despite this matching a documented pattern of identical failures reported to NHTSA by multiple Tesla owners.

A Tesla technician documented that the seat may still need a new occupancy sensor. Because this affects the Occupant Classification System and airbag deployment logic, it raises potential FMVSS 208 compliance concerns. 2. FSD / GPS Safety Hazard (5 Unsuccessful Repair Attempts): Across five service visits, Tesla attempted to fix GPS drift and unsafe FSD routing. My 2022 Tesla Model X has two recurring safety-critical defects that remain unresolved despite multiple repair attempts. 1. Airbag / Restraint System Failure (RCM2 / OCS Defect): The vehicle frequently misclassifies the front passenger seat. It shows a passenger when the seat is empty and activates passenger seatbelt warnings incorrectly. Recently the vehicle displayed: “Front passenger safety restraint system issue: Service required (RCM2_a064).” Tesla attempted to repair an electrical harness in the seat, but the problem returned. A Tesla technician documented that the seat may still need a new occupancy sensor. Because this affects the Occupant Classification System and airbag deployment logic, it raises potential FMVSS 208 compliance concerns. 2. FSD / GPS Safety Hazard (5 Unsuccessful Repair Attempts): Across five service visits, Tesla attempted to fix GPS drift and unsafe FSD routing. The vehicle still attempts incorrect turns, performs premature lane changes, and misinterprets intersections. One recent incident involved FSD attempting a left turn one intersection early, nearly causing a collision. Tesla replaced the GPS antenna, recalibrated cameras, and replaced the computer, but the unsafe behavior continues. These two defects—incorrect airbag/OCS behavior and hazardous automated-driving/navigation behavior—create a significant safety risk to occupants and other drivers. As I was attempting to merge onto Interstate 75, I noticed that steering became unexpectedly difficult. Consequently, I decided not to enter the highway. I then crossed the highway and pulled into a parking lot, where I turned off the vehicle. Upon restarting the vehicle, the issue seemed to have resolved itself.

I was then at a red light and I started to make a left turn and I could BARELY turn the wheel it was like it was almost locked up. Luckily I had enough strength and I was driving into a parking lot where I needed to have my car towed. On September, 21 2024 I scheduled an appointment with the Tesla Service Center for the “Front Row Curtain Airbag” recall to be performed. October 30th, I took my 2022 Model X Plaid to the Tesla Service Center for the recall work to be performed. During the repair, their service technician BROKE-OFF an anchor nut that secures the airbag to the A-pillar. The advisor said in order to “fix” it they would need to take the car to a body shop to have a “new” anchor nut welded onto the A-pillar. I was told this repair would require cutting open the A-pillar to access the location where the nut should be welded. Cutting the A-pillar will compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle's roof. And retrofitting a new mounting point for the side curtain airbag will compromise the effectiveness of the airbag in the event of an accident. The manufacturer's airbag recall "fix" does not involve cutting open the A-pillar to weld in a new mounting point for the vehicle's airbag. Performing the airbag recall in this manner creates a greater safety issue for my vehicle. Therefore, this "recall repair" should not be allowed to be performed on my vehicle.

The location of horn small icon and not in middle of the steering wheel is very hard to locate when you need it and safety concerns. Several times I needed to use the horn in emergency but were not able to locate it when you are in sudden need. Thanks

The yoke steering wheel only had a small horn button on the right side, only accessible by right thumb. My vehicle does not have a horn in the center. It is a button. Elon Musk told the public over and over they all had a center horn that just wasn’t activated yet, that would enable it in a future software update and that was a lie. This button horn on the right hand side never functions when needed. There is no “cover the entire right side” with your hand to make it honk when you’re quickly reacting to a safety hazard. It sets off the wipers usually without even honking. I don’t mind the weird turn signals, but this needs to be fixed. Now that they’ve announced a new model with a regular horn and lied to us about our cars actually having them but being “disabled” I think we are entitled to a retrofit of a brand new one with a center horn like every other vehicle on the road. Rear cross traffic alert? What real cross traffic alert? After I bought this car I was absolutely floored to find that when I back up, it doesn’t alert or beep or make any sound if a car is coming or a human is walking behind it. I was inches from hitting a neighbors child on a bike once and I am still shaken from what could have happened had I not heard someone yell. The car will scream and beep and flip out at every little other issue but doesn’t have this? Every car I’ve had since 2008 has had this feature. It is absolutely unacceptable that this noisy beeping computer car doesn’t have any audible rear cross traffic alerts. Please force them to fix this. It is DANGEROUS. The front drivers side door doesn't latch close. It can come open on the highway, posing a serious safety concern. Tesla said since they couldn't replicate the issue at the time of the service appointment, and thus they were just going to ignore it. This was stated to me on October 31, 2023.

My left turn signal on my steering wheel intermittently wont turn on. Its very annoying I thought it was a software issue and waited because Tesla service center is so bad. After research on the internet forums people have suggested to report this to NHTSA due to no resolutions found.
My left turn signal on my steering wheel intermittently wont turn on. Its very annoying I thought it was a software issue and waited because Tesla service center is so bad. After research on the internet forums people have suggested to report this to NHTSA due to no resolutions found.
The design feature of having the HORN be a soft key rather than palming the steering wheel just like every other car, has resulted in multiple occurrences where I tried to honk at someone to avert a collision, and the honk was delayed by hundreds of milliseconds as I had to recall that the horn is a soft key, that I have to hunt for depending on the steering wheel angle, at a critical time when milliseconds count. This is a really hazardous design decision I hope gets changed before it becomes a direct factor in people's deaths.

My 2022 Tesla Model X is equipped with yoke steering wheel with capacitive turn signal buttons integrated, and there's no turn signal stalk. While I like the simplicity, the turn signal buttons sometimes do not respond. It happened about 10x in the past 12 months / 10k miles of ownership. I took the vehicle to Tesla service center twice in the last a few weeks and they couldn't do anything other than a customer paid diagnostics. The most recent occurrence was 9/17. Here's what I put in my service request. "I was about to move to the right lane, but right signal button did not respond for 10-15 seconds. In the meantime, left signal button worked and I was able to activate it twice just to confirm it wasn't my thumb being wet of something else, but the right signal button would not respond at all. I wanted to record a video but it wasn't safe to do so. I captured a dashcam recording in case that helps." Here's the service result on my invoice "Unable to duplicate concerns present on steering yoke. Checked vehicle logs and no hardware related concerns or abnormalities identified. Performed inspection in-house and verified proper operation." (I was charged $70.5 for the diagnoses) The same also happened on 9/4. I put in the service note "I pressed on the left turn buttons about 5 times when the first 4 times it didn’t respond. I’ve capture a dashcam video to record the exact time in case that helps." Here's the service result on my invoice "Unable to verify the customer concern, diagnosed and pulled car logs and customers time stamp. Reviewed data with the lead technician, and found no issues or cracked alerts during the time of when the button was operated. unable to replicate concern. Buttons are working as designed. No repairs needed at this time." This imposes road safety issues for me and other drivers, especially when I have to change lanes on busy roads.

At about 11:20pm on September 9th, the steering control went out while we were going around an exit ramp at which point the steering yoke became extremely difficult to use and tried to revert to a straight position in the middle of going around the curve.

I'd like to report a safety concern. There are two issues. 1. the shape of the steering wheel, and 2. the location of the buttons and overall stalkless yoke. I have had this vehicle for a little over a year now, and there have been a number of times both issues could have caused a major accident. The first issue is the shape of the steering wheel. When driving normally, just every day driving, its not so much of an issue. But when you have to make quick, multiple emergency manuvers, the shape of the yoke (the fact that its not round'ish) is problematic. The yoke shape doesn't allow for quick maneuvers that you'd expect in emergency scenarios. The second issue has to do with the location of the high beams and the horn specifically, but could see other buttons being problematic for people with smaller hands than I have. I have attached several pictures with and without my own hands (for reference, I'm 6' tall with a medium build and proportional hand size.) As you can see, my thumbs aren't able to reach the high beam and horn buttons without moving my hands. Additionally, they aren't actually buttons and no way to know if my finger/thumb is in the correct place without looking at the yoke/wheel. This is problematic, because drivers would need to use those buttons quickly. Also, the high beam button isn't really user friendly. When trying to switch to high beams, you have to hold the button for a period of time, and it doesn't always work. Both of these issues are problematic and I recommend a review, as I'm seeing not only tesla with this steering wheel/yoke design, but have seen Lexus with the yoke design too. I work in the DC area and willing to bring my Tesla Model X to show your team so you can evalute the issue first hand. Thanks for your consideration

Steering wheel left and right signals are hard to control while driving. Narrowly escaped accident because I have to look at steering wheel to press signal button. I am not sure how this signal cleared safety concerns. It happened several times, I stop looking at road and find signal to press it.

While driving on an 80 MPH speed limit, 2-lane interstate in a rural area, the vehicle's "traffic aware" cruise control was enabled. The driver attempted to pass a semi-truck on left while the road was curving to the left. The vehicle's emergency lane keep assist appeared to engage causing the vehicle to swerve toward the semi-truck. The driver corrected back to the left, when doing so the power steering system failed causing the driver to apply significant force to the steering to avoid a collision. For the next 12 miles of driving the power steering never engaged and turning required significant force. While charging at a supercharger the error on the dashboard stating that power steering was not available persisted. Upon departure the error message went away and the power steering worked again. The manufacturer was contacted as the vehicle was under warranty. It was determined that no repair was needed after the power steering once again began to work, but the failure created a significant risk to the five vehicle occupants at the time of failure.

I kept pressing on the brake to stop the car, but it would not stop. I had no control and while it accelerated for 15-20 yards eventually it hit two other cars that were parked there. This happened so quickly. We all were terrified and shocked as I could not stop it from accelerating. I kept yelling "it is not stopping" to the person seating on the passenger side. I am confident that I did NOT press the accelerator pedal. The car was not on autopilot. My initial speed was probably 5 miles/hour, but it accelerated so suddenly that four airbags deployed, and the car is not drivable. Insurance company is evaluating whether the car is repairable, but I am afraid of driving with this car again until the problem is found and fixed. This could have turned to a major tragedy.

On Tesla's site, it says to report safety concerns to you vs to Tesla so that's what I'm doing since Tesla doesn't have any options to write to them about these problems. 1) I got into a parking lot accident on 7/7/2023 because of the "slide bar" on the Tesla Model X. I have had problems with it and complained to people about it before. If your hand has lotion on it, when you "scroll" up with your finger, it doesn't always "take". That's what happened earlier on 7/7 as well as in the parking lot. I scrolled to go forward, but it didn't scroll so when I hit the "gas" (its electric), it went backwards into the car in back of me. What if the car behind me was a person instead - that would have been awful. Tesla should fix this. 2) Tesla's horn is a small button on the right side of the 1/2 steering wheel. You can't even reach it with your right fingers when you are driving. If your right hand is not available, it is almost impossible to use your left finger to push exactly that small button for the horn. I also complained to Tesla about this safety issue when I had another problem with the car. Traveling south on I 5in CA on 2/27, weather and road were clear, speed 70 MPH, the car suddenly ceased to maintain it's set speed and decelerated rapidly. at 70 MPH with vehicles right behind me closely following, this is safety hazard. Same problem on return trip home northbound on CA 101 - destination Brentwood, CA. Third occurrence was on CA 246 - same problems but at 60 MPH.

The contact stated that after his wife had entered the parked vehicle and the driver's door was still open, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration, causing the vehicle to drive over a curb, into a ravine, and then crash into a tree. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was not filed due to the contact's wife not sustaining injuries. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired and was then towed to an independent mechanic, where it remained awaiting diagnosis and repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200. The contact noted that the actual failure mileage was 1,646.

Turning into a parking spot at a Target superstore, (next to a damaged at the rear end car, parked to the left of the spot I was pulling into), the car went out of control with unintended acceleration as if the car's Emergency Evasion system got activated unintentionally. It went over the curb and made a turn on it's own on the grassed divider and came to a stop on it's own, while I was trying to apply breaks all along. It caused damage to other cars but fortunately no people were harmed. This incident happened end of July of 2022 and I have since repeatedly tried to get answers from Tesla. There have been multiple other incidents of unintended acceleration reported by other drivers of Tesla with two incidents resulting in loss of lives. My car finally got repaired and has been released to me saying they have tested and found it safe to drive although I was told with regards to my incident "the engineering case is still open with no resolution at this point". I had requested a master technician to check my car but that has not been arranged yet. "Tesla Model X P100D hauls over 2,000 lbs like a champ I was inspired by the positive feedback my last post got (from the road trip I did) and wanted to share this too... I just bought a camper but the X's hauling limitations are 5,000 lbs, so my options were limited. I decided to buy an A Liner LXE 2021 because it's relatively cheap ($20k) and has all the things two people (and two dogs) would need (including a shower and toilet) and it weighs a cool 1,900 lbs. (\~2,200 fully loaded with our stuff). I was super impressed with the Tesla's ability to haul it (without charging mid-trip), especially given the +/- 4k elevation gain between Boise (2,730′ elevation) and Stanley (6,253′ elevation). On the way back (128 mile trip), I used \~190 miles of my battery. In other words, I made it with 80 miles left on a 270 mile charge. "Generally speaking the EPA range for a tesla is very reasonable for the average person under one, albeit HUGE, catch. A) Temperature is such that AC nor Heating needs to run. B) If they do need to run; you don’t stop but rather continue driving non-stop at reasonable speeds with a large portion below 55/60mph. The biggest drain for most folks is stopping and parking. Car then sits and cools/heats in the environment loosing all the energy put in to adjust the climate. Repeat for each leg of your trip. So I’m very familiar with EV products, charging infrastructure, build quality, and the all-important cost equation. My first Tesla was a leased 2020 Standard Range Model 3. As we all know, it’s a great little car that serves its purpose—but it also leaves plenty to be desired in build quality, luxury, size, and overall style. My most recent Tesla was a brand-new 2024 Model 3 Performance with just 8,000 miles on it. There were a few initial hiccups—Tesla had to adjust the steering column, and the dealer somehow installed the wrong tires on a staggered Performance setup—but since it wasn’t purchased directly from Tesla, I won’t fully blame them. That said, I was still kidding myself. Yes, it’s quick. Yes, HW4 is solid. But the same shortcomings were still there. And no matter how fast it is, it’s still a Model 3—even in Performance trim. Reality check: I have two kids—one in a booster and one still rear-facing—so I had absolutely no business daily-driving a Model 3 Performance. My wife does own the Etron SUV version so the kiddos mostly ride in that. I’ll occasionally take them to school and when we go out but there mainly in her SUV. But the deal was good, curiosity won, and I wanted to see if I could make it work. Before that, my daily was a 2019 C63 AMG, my heart has been in Germany for a while. I owned both cars outright, which gave me the freedom to experiment. Over the years, I’ve owned plenty of sport sedans, mostly European, so compromises don’t go unnoticed. Looking for more space, I had what I thought was a great idea: buy a used 2020 Tesla Model X directly from Tesla. I did my Reddit research—some horror stories, but mostly happy owners—so I felt confident. That confidence lasted about five minutes. The moment I drove off the lot here in Las Vegas, I noticed steering wheel vibration and grinding/crunching noises when turning. Turns out Tesla’s “multi-point inspection” isn’t exactly exhaustive. A service appointment quickly revealed bad front half-shafts. Add in cosmetic issues like a squeaky second-row motor and creaking trunk struts, and things were already off to a rough start. The half-shafts were replaced, but the vibration persisted. Trunk struts were scheduled for mobile service, and I immediately booked a second appointment. That’s when the advisor casually told me, “Honestly, you should just buy a Model Y—there are so many problems with the X.” I wasn’t sure whether to appreciate the honesty or file a complaint. Eventually, it was discovered that the wrong tires were installed front and rear, supposedly causing the vibration. They swapped them, balanced and aligned everything, and even replaced the front passenger wheel. In my 36 years of buying cars, I can confidently say this was the worst CPO experience I’ve ever had. "Aug 1, 2022814Tampa I took delivery on a 2022 Model X a few months ago. There was a host of issues that we wanted to get resolved but one is particularly annoying for a ~145k car. The inside of my car has a tremendous amount of rattling and creaking noises when driving. It is worse on city streets than it is on the highway but the issue is present for both situations. It is so annoying that I am considering selling the Model X. I have taken the car to Tesla Tampa's service center multiple times without any success in addressing the issues. They're quite useless. They tell me that some rattle is normal for EVs... but I have driven in multiple model S,3, Ys... I just refuse to accept this. I have narrowed much of the noise down to the side panels of the second and third rows. The car seems very put together very cheaply... almost like it was 3D printed. Anyways, here is the video recorded from the third row. The issue is clearly audible but sounds much louder in person: Realistically, what are my options? Continue escalating at Tesla Tampa? "Is the 2022 refresh having fewer quality issues than the previous generation? We're in the process of having Tesla repurchase our 2020 Model X due to a variety of issues (it has been in the shop 10 times for a total of 44 days since we bought it in 2020). As we've been shopping around for a replacement vehicle we've realized that there's just nothing like the Model X... but taking it in to the service center every couple of months is a showstopper, obviously. I know the Model X has been notorious for quality and reliability issues. Has the latest refresh (2022) made improvements in this area or is it still pretty janky? This is not meant to be a Tesla/Model X bashing thread. I love Tesla and loved our Model X (when it worked) so I'm really hoping that the refresh has fixed these issues."
