Buyer brief · 302 words

The 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ AWD packs 307 miles of EPA range, 190 kW fast charging and a 100 kWh battery, and the score gets it into the conversation; battery and service records decide whether to make an offer.

Score read

A 66/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. The useful split is software and driver-assist score at 98/100 versus owner feedback score at 50/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite range and software tech as recurring problems. If the seller cannot show recall completion, price that risk or move on.

Price context

Bring your own comps Pull current comps before negotiating

This trim started from $63,795 new. Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.

Gotchas

  • Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.

Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.

  • Verify Owner feedback is the part to read carefully (50/100).

Mitigation Read the complaint themes and ask whether this VIN has already had those issues repaired.

  • Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.

Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 307-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Read the complaint themes, not just the count, and ask the seller whether those issues have shown up on this VIN.

Backing out of driveway and screen went black and a collision occurred a second or two later. We have had the Lyriq in the shop multiple times for glitchy screens and screen going black but never has been fully resolved. I did recieve a recall letter (unfortunately I threw it away) but now it shows no recalls (strange). This black screen issue has been a problem since day 1 but now it has resulted in a collision. I have been unable to even back my car out of the garage when raining due to the sensitivity of the collision detect so there is NO excuse that it didn't alert. Cadillac has had the car since the accident and claim nothing is wrong with it and they are not responsible. I do not believe that. I have met with dealership GM who is looking into this further. I wanted to bring to the NTSB as this is 100% a safety concern. Thank God there wasn't a child on a bike or a baby in a stroller behind us. This didn't result in any human harm but the vehicle sustained damage that I believe was the direct result of malfunctioning technology on the car to prevent it.

Driving on connecter road between 2 freeways at 35-40 mph because of traffic. Suddenly the car veers to left on its own and hits concrete lane guiding wall damaging the left front of the car. Next tried to brake and they didn't work. Unable to steer the car it heads to the right and up on the rocks decorating of the road. Car goes another 25 or more feet before stopping due to rocks slowing down the car. The air-bags never deployed. Tried to contact SOS button but didn't work. Next contacted ONSTAR but they were no help and didn't show that an accident occurred and said call 911 which was done. Ever since the purchase of this EV car have been having trouble with it. The Emergency light (red car on dashboard) lit up and went to dealer who kept the car over a week. Green car worked for a while but occasionally turned red. Went to dealer again. Also, one day the steering wheel would not work until tried several time to restart the car. Dealer managed to break the steering wheel and repaired it. They also cracked the glass on the computer screen but denied they did it. Was planning to enact the Lemon Law on the car. Car now in repair shop. VELLOCITY COLLISION CENTER, 8765 LINDELL RD STE 100, LAS VEGAS, NV 89139 TEL 7028971320. Called GM Cadillac to inform them of information on accident. They said they would report this to the engineers there and report back to me. That was right after the accident but they have never tried to contact me.

I was in a left hand turn lane. When I started to make the turn my vehicle lurched and stopped. I tried several times to go and this behavior repeated. Onstar called me (or I called them). They called 911 for me and a fire truck was dispatched to help me. I was in the intersection and afraid to try anything else until the fire truck arrived to control the traffic so I could be moved from the intersection. When they arrived I was able to put the vehicle in drive and drive it out of the intersection and then home. When I got home, I had Onstar run a diagnostic and there was an error code for the high voltage battery. I had previously reported to my dealer that I was getting alerts to service the high voltage battery (on the myCadillac app). They were unable to find a problem. No crash happened this time, but if it occurred when I was in front of oncoming traffic then a crash may have occurred.

One pedal driving automatically turned off, stopped working and normal breaking system stopped working, once breaks pressed it felt super hard like a ton of pressure/air was going through and brakes didn't work. Dash Board showed signs of: small car swerving sign, ABS sign, Brake sign with two cars crashing and an alert saying "Brake System Failure" This almost caused a multiple car crash. The 2023 Lyriq has 3 selections on the touch screen menu for the level of regenerative braking. They are: 1. Off 2. Low 3. High (I did not go out to my car to see exact wording) The serious issue is that, without notice to the driver, the setting can be reset to "Off". This must be a programming error or bug, but what is dangerous is expecting regenerative braking and NOTHING happens. You are forced to reset the level of regenerative braking. At a random interval, the setting will again RESET. This should get IMMEDIATE attention at GM's Lyriq design center.

The 12 volt battery of my 2023 Lyriq died even though the main battery was at 79% charge. The car had sat unused for three days. The 12 volt battery controls the opening of doors, charging ports, and all other accessories. I was effectively locked out of my car without warning. The only way in the car is by using the key in the keyfob and crawling through the trunk. GM has known about this issue, but has not informed owners that this could happen and what to do. They believe it is from an installation of an over the air update stalling, but cannot prove that is definitively the issue. As a woman, I rely on my vehicle to be a place of safety and find it completely unacceptable to be locked out of my car in any public setting. I live in an urban area and have had to rely on my car as a place of refuge from people that I do not feel safe around. Having a jumper from the main propulsion battery to make sure that the doors still work should be integrated and customers alerted at a minimum. I'd rather sit inside a dead car and wait for help, than be stuck outside it or crawling through my trunk.

The gauge cluster/infotainment screen dims automatically when the light sensor on the dash senses the environment has gotten darker. The problem is that this happens extremely early at dusk/dark hours when it's still fairly bright outside, and the brightness of the screen is too dim to see things clearly. Also, once this automatic dimming happens, there is no way to turn the brightness back up. This feature also CANNOT be disabled in the settings anywhere. This results in a safety issue where the screen is not sufficiently visible at times when the auto dimming (which is also tied to the automatic headlights) kicks in for the screen.

While transitioning to day to night, the instrument panel dims prematurely making the content very hard to see. This includes all indicators such as speed, turn signals, and other gauges and possible fault indications. This happens prior to dusk, when there is still plenty of daylight remaining. The headlights come on (this is fine), but the display dims to full night mode at the same time also. Although the instrument display night illumination level is adjustable with the dimmer switch, even at maximum setting the instrument panel cannot be well seen. Once the sun fully sets, the display visibility for night viewing is fine. The same issue occurs at the night to day transition. The display stays dim much too long into dawn, again presenting visibility issue of the controls and gauges during this time. This problem is not isolated to just my particular vehicle. When the vehicle was in the shop for various repairs, loaner Lyriq's provided exhibit the same issue. Both 2023 and 2024 model year, over various trims.

The Lyriq, as well as all current GM vehicles, use an icon on their instrument panel for indicating headlights are on that is incorrect. They use the symbol for parking lights rather than the symbol for low beam headlights on their instrument panel display. This is especially confusing because their own digital menu to turn on lights correctly shows the low beam headlights symbol for headlights, and the parking lights symbol for parking lights. However, turning on low beam headlights shows a parking lights indicator in the dashboard, and turning on the parking lights shows no indicator in the dashboard. It's my belief that, to help make sure no driver misunderstands what the symbols are indicating, that GM should have all vehicles properly use the low beam symbol for a dashboard indicator to show headlights, just like other vehicles use, rather than the parking lights indicator which is incorrect (both inconsistent with US convention, (as well as inconsistent with their own menu in the Lyriq specifically) to turn these lights on.

Headlights droop over time driven which can severely limit forward vision. The limited vision forward at highway speeds certainly reduces safety. This is an intermittent problem that I can find no real pattern except that the longer you drive at night, the more likely the problem will surface. The problem has been confirmed and headlights replaced by at least three dealerships I first noticed the problem about 6 weeks after purchase because we do not drive much at night. Low beam headlights have very poor throw which degrades while driving. After driving the vehicle for 30 minutes, both left and right headlights point downward and do not throw light down the road. Cutoff is steep, with light only going about one car length. The fault is variable and somewhat random, with sometimes just one headlight drooping. The car must be driven for this to happen - does not occur when sitting flat or idle. The amount of droop varies also (confirmed by placing various pieces of tape on garage wall, and checking headlight position before and after a trip). Although the magnitude of droop is variable, nearly any trip will cause at least some amount of misalignment. When the fault is severe, even the high beams do not function well - just illuminating a very bright spot directly in front of the vehicle - and not down the road. Vehicle has electronic motorized leveling system for the headlights. The headlights go through some sort of automatic adjustment process when the vehicle is turned on. When the fault has occurred, turning the vehicle off and then on temporarily corrects the issue. Of course, this is not possible to do while driving. Driving at night in this vehicle is hazardous with this behavior. Numerous other Debut Edition and 2023 model year owners are experiencing this issue - not an isolated occurrence.

When the vehicle first starts, the headlights go through some sort of leveling routine and the light spread seems to illuminate a reasonable distance ahead of the vehicle. However, over as short as a few minutes of driving, the headlight seems to droop significantly and can result in only a very short section of road being illuminated ahead of the vehicle. This makes it very dangerous to drive at night as not enough of the road is illuminated ahead of the vehicle. The headlight throw pattern is not always uniform and there may appear to be something like a notch in the light pattern. This does not seem related to adaptive forward lighting as I do not see an active change in the light pattern based on driving.

Low beam headlights work appropriately for 5 or so minutes before "drooping" or "sagging" so that they only illuminate one car length or so in front of the vehicle. Upon shutting off and restarting the vehicle, the lights return to correct illumination. However, they somehow droop again and within 5-10 minutes, it is not safe to drive the vehicle on low-beam headlights. It is the equivalent of having only fog lights on. First of all, the Model Y is a great compact SUV. The things I loved most about mine were: 1) Its size and use of space- The frunk is huge, the sub trunk I could fit a Yeti 35 cooler under, the trunk space was solid, and my leg room in the front and back seats was as good as any vehicle in its class (I am 6 foot 5 so it matters) 2) The driving experience- Double edge sword coming here. This car was QUICK, loved that. The suspension Tesla used here has changed in recent year and for good reason, you could feel every little bump which sucked for daily driving in a city where potholes and road imperfections are abundant. Again, if you get a newer year or non performance Tesla, you will have a different experience. That being said, if I was trying to whip the car around and have fun with it, feeling every inch of the road was great. 3) The sound system- One of the best I have ever heard stock from the factory. 4) Customization- So many 3rd party accessories if you want to take your Model Y and add onto it since it comes so similar to everyone else's from the factory 5) The charging exprience- This is by far the most important thing for most people considering buying an EV. The Tesla super charging network is by far the best and it's not even close. They are extremely rel"

"Lyriq Forum - 2023+ UberNerd Jun 20, 2025 Update infotainment SW BR5 changes So..I got an OTA update for the Infotainment which bring me up to the latest BR5 version. I find the garage door opener to be MUCH more reliable and I also notice that when I put my phone into the charger I no longer get a dialog. If I open the Menu I can see the phone is charging though which... 141.5Kgkessler47403 replied Jun 23, 2025 Lyriq Forum - 2023+ azlyriq Jun 20, 2025"

"#16· Jan 5, 2024 Some of this has already been said, but if you really need to make this 220 mile trip on a single charge, then I'd say: 2\. Cruise control 65MPH to airport using heated seats, heated steering wheel, and air cabin heat off Yes, it's winter and it will be a little chilly for the first 5-10 minutes on the return. However, those seat heaters get toasty very quickly. You'll likely be ready to take your winter coat off or turn down the heated seats in no time. My personal experience driving on the highway is that I was able to get 2.4-2.5 miles/kWh in the summer/fall time traveling about 65-75MPH. It's probably fallen to 2.0-2.2 miles/kWh in the winter time in Wisconsin. The drop takes into account cabin heating as our typical travels don't require maximizing conservation of battery energy. It might take a few runs to the airport to get a good idea of what your trip efficiency is (look at the current trip counter at the left-most part of the screen). If you signed up for the EVgo benefit, then at least there's quite a few of those chargers in the general vicinity of Midway. A quick 10-15 minute top-off should be sufficient to get you back. We got that benefit and there isn't a single one in the entire state of WI. We only have used it once during a quick weekend trip to Chicago."

But I expect a lot of that is from shorter trips with heat pumping - the efficiency goes up once cabin is up to temperature. When cold out, I notice my car consuming 8-9kW just sitting idle, as it tries to warm the cabin. And that is reflected in the % used in the energy display - like 30-40% power consumed during that time for heating - not driving. > > > Click to expand... Thanks for the reply. I am desperate for this too work. As to your questions 20" Wheels AWD. I shed all of the heating of rear seat and passenger seat to try to conserve charge. I don't do short drives with this just to the airport twice a week. Dealer suggested preheating cabin etc before leaving in the morning. However due to no movement by QMerit on charger install I am using the Level 1 charger to do this. Dealer wasn't sure if that charger could handle that task. The article by Caddillac's engineer sure makes it sound like cold weather shouldn't be an issue. #8· Jan 5, 2024"

"Took delivery of my new 2024 Lyriq mid Decemeber. Really like the look and ride. Lots of compliments. I traded in my Buick Enclave Avenir as I never used the extra capacity seating etc. I use this car to commute to the airport. Round trip milage is 220 miles to Midway Airport in Chicago. My dealer refused to sell me a Lyriq till Cadillac advertised 307 mile range as he didn't want to rescue me. In any event I began trip at 100% charge on a 21 degree morning. The 6 mile trip to the interstate ate about 30 miles of range from battery. I became a bit concerned about making it to the airport. I turned off remote heating. Set heat to 65 turned off everything I could think of including ambient lighting. Was driving one pedal for maximum regeneration but on Interstae you don't brake much at 4AM. Kept speed under 70 with cruise control set to 68. I did make it to the airport with 89 miles of range left, but I could not make the drive back without charging in the back of bank parking lot at midnight. I brought car to the dealer and was told to drive with the heat off .... IN WINTER! My display on car for lifetime efficiency with my 700 miles is displaying 1.7 miles per kilowatt. As a newbie to this whole experience I think this is basically telling me that I have had an effective range of about 170 miles. If thats the case this beautiful vehicle is useless. To add to the issues QMerit has failed to even"

"Cadillac Brand Second To Last In Consumer Reports December 2024 Reliability Report > Meanwhile, the Cadillac Lyriq, one of the brand’s leading EV models for popularity, scored a jaw-dropping 5 points out of 100, a low score equaled only by another GM electric vehicle – the Chevy Blazer EV, also rated at 5 out of 100 for dependability. "Should I buy a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Black Tech? Hey everyone, I’ve been seriously considering getting a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Black Tech, but I keep going back and forth after reading so many mixed reviews both here and on YouTube. Visually and design-wise, the car looks amazing — no doubt about that. The interior is gorgeous, and the overall look really stands out compared to most EVs. However, I’ve seen quite a few concerning posts from owners mentioning that their Lyriq had to be towed multiple times due to software or electrical issues. That’s honestly making me hesitate. I’d be using the car mainly to drive to the office a few times a week and occasionally for Uber Black, so reliability is really important to me. I don’t want to spend around $34–38K just to end up with something that’s constantly in the shop. So, for those of you who own a Lyriq or have experience with it — would you still recommend buying one in 2024? Or should I go for something safer even if it’s not as stylish?"
