Buyer brief · 235 words

The 2023 Fisker Ocean Extreme One is rated at 360 miles of EPA range, 200 kW fast charging and a 100 kWh battery, and the score is below the comfortable threshold — discount-heavy negotiation only.

Score read

A 54/100 makes this a high-risk buy. The useful split is battery-health score at 69/100 versus build quality score at 35/100. On Reddit, owners keep flagging the same two issues: range and software tech. If the seller cannot show recall completion, price that risk or move on.

Gotchas

  • Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.

Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.

  • Verify Build quality is where the inspection earns its keep (35/100).

Mitigation Inspect alignment, cabin noise, suspension feel, tires, and trim wear more carefully than usual.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 360-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Drive rough pavement, check door and hatch alignment, and listen for trim noise before you negotiate.

I had the vehicle updated to version 2.3.3 by a technician because my car would not update OTA. I thought this update would resolve the ADAS problems as well as the breaking problems. However, on three separate occasions my vehicle has come to an abrupt stop with automatic breaking when approaching a redlight / intersection with no other vehicles in front of me. This occurred while manually applying the break and then the car just took over. There were no forward collision warnings, rather the car was automatically forced to shuttering stop. An alert appears that the brake system has malfunctioned followed by both LED screens turning off and on. The break malfunction error appears several times. Eventually, the screens will restart and then when you try to put the car into gear a gear shift error appears and the car will not go into gear leaving me stranded in traffic. On one occasion these errors appeared when the car started up in a parking lot. These events are unpredictable and not tied to any visible obstacle. The vehicle cannot reliably receive over-the-air software updates due to persistent connectivity failure as I have tried updated to SW Version 2.5. As a result, both the past federally mandated safety recall remedies could not be delivered not any future updates. I have personally paid out of pocket for recall-related repairs and have not been reimbursed. I have not been contacted regarding replacement of recalled exterior door handles. Break and/or shift errors have occurred on May 28, 2025, Sept 3, 2025, Dec 3, 2055, Jan 9, 15, and 21 2026.

Our Fisker Ocean is occasionally having an issue when a passenger is sitting in the rear driver side or middle seat. It seems like something related to the seat sensor causes the computer to freeze or get bogged down. When it occurs, the symptoms include: -The yellow front collision and lane change ADAS warnings pop up simultaneously -Cruise control shuts off -Speedometer freezes -Blinkers don’t work (which also means hazard lights don’t) -Regen turns off but braking still works -Tomtom stops tracking the car accurately -Radio freezes -There may be other systems affected that we haven't noticed. A bit of experimentation with the passengers we were able to figure out workarounds. Lifting themselves off the seat all the issues would resolve pretty much immediately. Leaning the seat back down and then putting it back up almost always took care of the issue and it wouldn’t come back for a while or at all.

An OTA update got pushed to my car without warning, and for over a month the infotainment screen (which has all info on car, controls, etc) was not working. Car did drive, though. Then, last week, the infotainment panel started working by itself again, but car functions such as lane assist / automatic nudge, collision avoidance function, and auto emergency braking stopped working (to be fair, they may have stopped when the screen went blank initially, but I wasn't paying too much attention and I didn't drive the car very much). There is no fault code or warning. These systems just don't work. Interestingly, the lane departure warning (a light that goes on if there is a car in your blind spot) started working, and it never has before.

Component/System Failure: Lane-Keeping Assist: Malfunctioned during highway turns, aggressively steering toward the shoulder, creating a collision risk. Turning off the feature does not prevent it from re-engaging. Braking & Acceleration: After hitting a pothole, braking failed to engage properly, and the car unexpectedly accelerated, requiring immediate action to regain control. Regenerative Braking: Inconsistent performance made it difficult to stop at higher speeds or downhill, increasing the risk of losing control. Random Parking Engagement: While reaching into my back pocket at low speed, the car unexpectedly shifted into "Park," abruptly stopping in traffic and posing a rear-end collision risk. Brake System Malfunction: A persistent "Brake System Malfunction" warning appears during normal driving, raising concerns about braking reliability. Availability for Inspection: The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risks: Lane-Keeping Assist: Unintended steering toward the shoulder endangers me and other road users. Braking & Acceleration: Failure to brake and unexpected acceleration create hazardous conditions. Regenerative Braking: Inconsistent braking may lead to loss of control, particularly at high speeds or downhill. Random Parking Engagement: Unexpected shifts into "Park" in traffic could result in a collision. Brake System Malfunction: Persistent warnings and unreliable braking compromise vehicle safety. Reproduction/Confirmation by Dealer: The dealer has been notified, but no permanent fix has been provided. The safety issues remain unresolved. Warning Lamps/Messages: The "Brake System Malfunction" alert frequently appears during normal driving, along with braking failures and lane-keeping assist malfunctions. The vehicle's door handles work intermittently, sometimes preventing driver or passenger escape. Recall 24V466000 still has not been performed due to parts availability. ADAS system is inoperable, causing a safety issue - forward collision warning is inoperable, adaptive cruise control was never activated by the factory, the blind spot monitor does not operate, lane departure warning does not operate. An unscheduled over-the-air software update was completed in the last week which has now rendered the vehicle's ICC inoperable, and causing the gauge cluster to reset at regular intervals while the vehicle is in motion. This creates an incredible safety issue as I lose visibility of speed, turn signals deactivate. The vehicle also goes into 'park' when stopped for a red light or stop sign if the driver's weight is shifted at all, causing an unsafe situation attempting to find the key to put it back into 'drive.'

The issues with this vehicle started, right from delivery. The staff, had me waiting for a couple of hours and finally called me into the back and explained that paint and ding needed to be fixed. They promised that if I took delivery, they would provide me with the needed repairs this was back on 9/26/23. The dings and paint issues were never resolved. What I did receive was a complimentary home charger. The day after the vehicle would self shift into park. This happened too many times to count. I shifted into park while I was backing up, when I slowed down, and when stopped in the middle of traffic which became a safety concern. Several near collision misses while backing up made the situation life altering and produced extremely stressful situations arises from the self shift issue. In addition, a few times I could not even get into the vehicle due to key fob to car communication issues. I had to use other transportation. This was corrected, however it still happens from time to even to date. The fact that too many warning lights would flash constantly on the dashboard made it impossible to know what was malfunctioning or what was working in this vehicle. More than ten service tickets were ignored. Some did not seem to even go through when using the fisker app or their official website. There was also a battery drain issue that left me stranded twice I had to call for tow assistance. On 9/20/24 an OTA update was forced through that made the car battery drain an feel like the Fisker it was stalling. I drove in the slow lane made it home, charged my car, but the car had bricked. Steering this car in the snow has proven extremely dangerous. ice on the road causes the Wheels to accelerate to extremely high speeds as they slip and try to gain traction. But this often has a negative effect of losing control of the vehicle. A number of times I have nearly crashed into other vehicles even at very low speeds because of this. In a related issue, regenerative braking in the ice is also extremely dangerous for a similar reason, The vehicle attempts to apply the brakes too hard in slippery conditions which then causes it to start sliding out of control

I have all the outstanding issues out on this car and probably more. For example, sometimes the car's brakes will fail and the car can roll away. There are times when the car's regenerative braking is not working properly which decreases braking performance and can lead to a crash. Sometimes I notice that my car has a loss of power, which is concerning as it may cause an accident or worse. My water pump has not been replaced. To my knowledge, my door handles currently are not sticking, but this has not been looked at or addressed. I get constant warning lights alerting me to a safety system either not working or failing if that is even the case. I am still on software 2.0 and have been waiting patiently for the 2.2 update to address many of these issues, but have not been contacted at all from the OTA team to schedule one or been pushed one.

Unannounced, on February 12, 2025 update 2.1 was pushed to my automobile. It has amplified the already missing and malfunctioning safety features of the car. I started to receive 12v battery warnings, downhill traction warning light, sporadic ADA system failure warnings including: loss of lane departure warning and avoidance, loss of emergency braking capability, and loss of forward collision warning. The HVAC system is also malfunctioning - fan speed at start up is automatically high temperature and occasional sudden fogging of window interiors at highway speeds. The mileage remaining calculation also suddenly dropped, causing concern I would not make it home from work safely. I'm very afraid to continue driving the car: I worry it is a danger for myself and others on the road. I have been forced to take it to a service & repair center for an inspection to address the sudden low 12v power drop. I was told by the repair shop that there are outstanding safety recalls for the Fisker Ocean - why did none appear on this web page when I entered my VIN?

The ADAS malfunctions randomly and more often when any rain, fog, and or strong light is facing the vehicle. The emergency collision braking stops working, along with several other safety systems such as forward collision, blind spot, and lane-keeping assistance. When I was driving and had been relying on the blindspot monitoring and notification and wanted to change my lane there were no notifications, because the blind spot monitoring had stopped working, and I encountered another vehicle in the lane that I was trying to merge; it became very dangerous and now I had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. Battery Jan 28, 2025

On January 30, 2025, around 7 PM, my Fisker Ocean experienced a critical failure while parked at Ralphs Market in California. The 12-volt battery died, which completely disabled the vehicle's door locking and unlocking mechanisms, leaving me, my elderly mother, and my young son trapped inside for about two hours. There was no manual override option to open the doors or rear hatch from the inside. My mother, who had a triple bypass surgery three months ago, began feeling dizzy and distressed as we remained trapped. To minimize her stress, I asked everyone to stop talking until help arrived. Even more concerning was that multiple attempts to open the doors from outside also failed. The Uber driver, my son (who was outside), and AAA all attempted to open the doors, but none of them were successful. The door handles were in the "up" position, which should have indicated that the doors were unlocked and could open, yet they remained completely stuck. Eventually, AAA arrived, but due to Fisker’s unusual hood design, I had to instruct them to remove two bolts to access the 12-volt battery before they could connect a portable charger and restore power to the doors. This is a serious safety risk that could be life-threatening in an emergency such as a fire, crash, or extreme weather event. If we had been in a more urgent situation, there would have been no way to escape. The 12-volt battery failure has happened multiple times before, but this was the first time it occurred while I was inside the vehicle, leading to entrapment. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the failure. The vehicle simply lost power without warning, causing a total failure of all exit mechanisms. I have not yet had the vehicle inspected by a dealer or independent service center regarding the entrapment issue, but I plan to report it. However, since Fisker has filed for bankruptcy, there is no way to contact the manufacturer for assistance or resolution. I strongly urge NHTSA to in

while entering a freeway the car in front braked suddenly and in the process of braking in response our Fisker did its characteristic "chatter" as the ABS first activated and then stopped braking all together causing us to hit the car ahead. Had the brakes not misbehaved the turning movement to avoid the impact would have allowed the collision to be avoided. Our Tbox has not worked since getting the car. Numerous fixes before Fisker went bankrupt did not remain in place and the navigation map has been useless. But much worse is that bc the Tbox is not working we are unable to get the OTA update and must pay for a manual update which has been quoted at $450, PLUS the cost of getting the Tbox reset and equipped with a resettable fuse (another $250).

There are many incidents to report. 1. No Braking consistency and sometimes a jerk forward on braking, many incidents about 10. Also loss of regen braking at times. 2. Software safety features do not work and constant warning it does not work. Mostly lane assist, automatic parking collision warning. One time reversing camera shows room with digital assist lines which did not protect or warn car of swiping another car. Only slight damage to my vehicle. 3. Driver door handle water leakage causing door to not open with NFC chip and is constantly very warm on the handle as if there is electrical current always on. 4. I had to buy a new KEY FOB as old one has failed. 5. Rear passenger door reading light will come on for no reason. Some adjustment needed. 6. Broken air vents. Poor quality plastic apparently. I did tell manufacturer when i received car and they offered to fix but unfortunately at time I had no time to come in for repair before they went bankrupt and closed shop. Regardless they used poor plastic and a fix needs a better quality plastic i found out in research with other owners. 7. Inherent Production quality of parts problem many owners are discovering with help of owner organization to find remedy.

I received a notification for a recall for the water pump many months ago. To this day, the water pump has not been replaced. No one has reached out to me to set up the recall repair. I have tried to find local car repair shops, but they won't do it as it is part of a national recall. Also, the ADAS system is constantly malfunctioning, giving errors like collision warning not working, lane assist not working, blind spot monitoring not working. This has been a problem since I received the car. Adaptive cruise control has never worked. The braking system was supposed to be fixed with the 2.2 software update. It seemed to work for a few weeks, now the original problem is back where the braking regeneration turns off suddenly causing the car to lose control. This happens at random.

Blind sport warning and forward collision warnings keep failing and the alarms are incessant. The alarms are a major distraction with all the flashing. These are items that have not worked since the car was delivered and Fisker, Heights, and the FOA have all failed to address this. Another car handle has failed. The driver rear handle has failed, in addition to the passenger rear handle. This effectively locks people in the car, in those respective seats. The door cannot be opened from the inside or outside.

The Fisker Ocean has a central control and monitoring screen that includes controls and settings that impact safety. This failed and is now unusable. The central screen includes regenerative braking settings, hands free phone feature, and blind spot warning lights. It also includes the climate control settings in the car to make sure one can have heat in cold temperatures and AC in hot temperatures. It also controls the ADAS settings for collision detection. With a failed control and monitoring screen all of these are unavailable impairing safe driving and increasing the likelihood of an accident. This is a common problem with the Fisker Ocean impacting safety that needs to be addressed.

My concern relates to the recall campaign for 24V623000 reduction in regenerative braking. The slow roll out of this campaign caused this unrepaired recall to result in a crash of the vehicle resulting in a complete loss. While driving on a highway in subzero temperatures, the driver let off the accelerator to slow the vehicle around a corner. At this point the vehicle lost the expected braking and began to lose control. This sent the vehicle to understeer and toward oncoming traffic. An attempt to correct sent the vehicle out of control and into a collision with barriers, spinning across the road with the rear door on the driver's side completely ripped from the body. While the driver was not hurt, it is quite possible that a passenger could have been thrown from the vehicle and seriously injured. This is an obvious serious safety risk to not only the occupants of the car, but such loss of control could have resulted in death or serious injury without emergency corrective action and frankly a little luck. It is particularly concerning that very few of these recalls have apparently been addressed. It has been shared that fewer than 10% of the public vehicles have had this issue addressed, months after the recall was announced. I feel that had this issue been addressed in a timely manner this incident would not have occurred and I fear for others that might find themselves in a similar perilous situation.

Fisker attempted to install a software update (Software OS 2.2) to my vehicle over the air which was intended to address recall number 24V623000. This attempted software update caused the vehicle's 12 Volt battery to drain, resulting in the car activating its low battery audible alarm and damaging the battery requiring me to pay for a new battery and its installation. The software was not successfully installed. Information from others owners indicates that the software update has damaged other cars and that very few of the Fisker Ocean fleet have received the full software update. Also, several of the car's Advanced Driver Assistance System functions remain inoperative, specifically the collision avoidance systems and pedestrian warning systems, raising serious safety issues for the car. The recall 24V623000 remains unaddressed for my vehicle. Recall 24V466000 requires Fisker to test door handles and replace them if faulty. This recall service has not been performed on my car. In December of 2024, the door handle on passenger door on the driver's side of the car failed. When unlocked, the door would not open from either the outside or the inside of the car creating a safety hazard if emergency egress from the vehicle was required. I have received no communication from Fisker on how to satisfy this recall requirement. Fisker has not provided resources or service locations at which this recall can be completed. Recall 24V466000 remains unaddressed for my vehicle. Recall number 24V499000 requires Fisker to replace water pumps that can fail and cause the car to depower and enter "limp mode". Fisker has not contacted me on how to satisfy this recall requirement. Fisker has not provided resources or service locations at which this recall can be completed. I’m currently experiencing the following safety issues with my Fisker Ocean One: 1. Seat sensor - does not sense a person sitting which affects the ability to put the vehicle into gear or automatically puts the vehicle into park if in gear. Huge safety concern since the vehicle has been placed into park in the middle of a traffic intersection or will not go into drive after waiting at a red light or stop sign. Have had near hits from the rear. 2. Windshield - there are zero available options to quickly replace a cracked windshield. Replacement windshields are not available anywhere and if for some miracle you can locate one (via eBay) you cannot find a shop that will replace it. I’ve called multiple windshield repair companies for many months and non of them carry the windshield or have the tools needed to recalibrate the ADAS. Driving with a cracked windshield is a very big safety hazard due to extreme visibility reduction. Could cause crash or hitting pedestrians.

Vehicle was on software version 2.0 which solely contributed to this problem. I had a front passenger tire have a catastrophic failure and blow out on me while driving, this causes the car to pull hard to the right, into a concrete wall. Compounding this problem was I let off the throttle and the regen braking never kicked in to slow the car down. Software version 2.0 was known to be flawed and cause excessive tire wear and regen braking issues, which is what I believe happened. The result of the crash was minor cosmetic flaws, but due to the inability to gather parts the insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. There have been several other occurrences of this happening and I believe the car is a serious safety hazard to those who drive it and others on the road.

Submitted on-line service request although I have done this multiple times in past months and Fisker does not reply. Recall notice indicates the issue can create hazardous conditions due to not being able to keep pace with traffic or maneuver safely, thereby increasing the risk of a crash. Also aware of another recall regarding door locks where the vehicle locks and traps passengers/drivers inside. This could result in great bodily harm or death. Receive error message multiple times regarding breaking system malfunction & monitoring malfunction. Key fob works intermittently, all features of fob do not work. Reported faults with vehicles resulting in unintended reverse movement and an inability to move forward while in drive on a slight slope. Car would roll back even when the accelerator was nearly floored on a slight incline. Car was rolling backwards towards the edge of a cliff on a very narrow road despite multiple attempts of accelerating in drive. Reported and logged with company. Numerous counts of braking failure (unreliable regenerative breaking). Regen braking would give out unexpectedly multiple times even after software updates that were claimed by Fisker to fix the issue. This drastically impacts the braking ability of the car, safety and reliability. Regen braking inconsistencies and automatic emergency braking faults continued to occur. Aforementioned vehicle failures resulted in collision damage at low speed resulting in car being "totaled" in part due to lack of parts/service infrastructure.

There are 3 major issues/concerns with this vehicle. 1. Sunroof/Roof - This rooftop does not seal completely. Initially this roof would rattle and you could hear squeaks and movement. Then the sunroof would only open on a half and then soon not at all. Because of this, the top is never fully sealed leaving water to leak inside in different areas potentially causing more issues to the electrical components inside. 2. Seats area weight sensitive. While driving it is too sensitive so at a red-light, any slight movement will immediately put the car in park and doors unlocked. Even WHILE reversing, any movement on the seat (to look backwards), the car will go in park while moving! 3. Forward collision warning - the notices to stop/warn you of a collision are WAY too late. by the time you actually get to a stop, the beeps and lights come on. I had to swerve to avoid a collision - there was not a single notice at any point.

My Fisker has had multiple issues from the beginning. Seat sensor does not allow you to shift the car into drive or reverse. I had to shake my butt to get it into gear. There are at times that when I drive it goes into park for no reason. When it comes to braking it does this skip feeling which is very alarming. ADA notifications are constantly alerting (pretty much daily) where Auto Emergency Braking, Blind Spot warning, Forward Collision Warning are not working on a daily basis, especially in rain and when the sun rises and sets - it is a constant distraction. So n a nutshell here are the major issues: - ADA alerts constantly - When braking there is skipping (not all the time but more so when you really have to quickly brake - Seat sensor in the seat - must shake your butt to get it into gear due to it not being in the right place perhaps? (it's been serviced twice) - Skipping while braking hard -Fob key lags a lot, I believe it's a safety issue that you can't get in your car when needed especially in areas that are not so nice and as a female you should not be scared if your car will open or not - Not a safety issue but I do want to point out my vents turn on high and hot every time I get in the vehicle and need to turn it off

The regenerative braking doesn't work when I hit a bump. There is a bump that can't be avoided in my route to my house. Every single time, without fail, when I hit that bump my regenerative braking goes out and more stopping time is required for me. This is especially dangerous because this bump is near a traffic light. If I have to slam on my brakes to avoid running a light (which has happened a few times) I have very little stopping time available and have nearly rear-ended and/or ran a traffic light on accident due to this failure of the brakes. Additionally, when this happens and I press the brakes to help slow me down there is a "hiccup" feeling where it feels like neither the regenerative nor even the normal braking is working. This lasts for about 1.5 seconds.

It’s Still a Great-Driving EV While early reviews from outlets like Edmunds and U.S. News & World Report praised the Ocean’s strong performance, attractive design, comfortable ride and “California Mode” (all windows and roof open at once), the bankruptcy of Fisker Inc. and many negative reviews in 2024 created a challenging reputation for the car. The mood has decidedly changed since then. Recent articles from Wired Magazine and uploads from YouTuber Rich Rebuilds and Everything Electric Cars are examples of this positive shift. Thousands of owners who drive them daily still report comfortable seats, an excellent driving experience, solid highway performance, and real-world range that holds up well. For the money they are selling for in 2026, the performance-per-dollar ratio is extremely compelling. The Ocean remains one of the most distinctive EVs on the road. # 2. "Fisker Ocean One driving range and cost My first pass at figuring out real world range and cost to home charge FOO. I do not have daily losses as other have reported. I'm on the latest OTA 1.09. Tires are at 44PSI front, 49PSI rear. I've done 2 charges so far with my Tesla Universal Charger. I'm trying to confirm some numbers like stated battery size and usable capacity. 116KWh and 106.5Kwh usable is what I've found. My last charge was from 69% to 81% that added 43 miles of range. Tesla app claims I used 15.6KWh. It was claiming a 7.0KWh charge rate through most of it. The car dash was reading about 6.2KWh. I will assume this is losses in charging which equals about 88% eff. If we trust the EPA range of 360, then 43/360=15.6\*(6.2/7.0)/capacity. Capacity equals 116KWh. Obviously we probably have some rounding errors with charge percentage, miles added and efficiency losses . So I will need to keep repeating these tests to see where it ends up. I forgot to get the actual mileage driven from the car, but that is another sore subject with me as to why it isn't always showing in the gauge cluster., but buried as a second page on the charge screen. Plus no trip odometer yet. I drove from my house straight to the airport and back. Google lists it as 34.2 miles round trip for the route I took. It was mixed driving with city, highway and lights, 60 mins round trip. A couple of quick passes. Who can resist? My range to empty dropped 42 miles. I Started at 80% charge, so my 15.6KWh was for charging to 81%, which means I used 14.3KWh (11/12\*15.6KWh) for the trip. Looks like 2"

"Fisker Ocean review: Stylish EV or risky gamble? Fresh from the design board of Henrik Fisker, the Fisker Ocean blends eye-catching style with eco-friendly ideas like a solar roof and recycled materials. It’s a mid-size electric SUV that turned heads with its 17″ rotating touchscreen and “California Mode,” where all the windows drop for a convertible feel. What stands out driving is comfort and that quirky personality. The ride is smooth, the surf‑inspired interior feels mature, more luxurious than a Model Y, with suede seats and physical buttons for climate control. The solar roof can add around 1,000 miles per year, a neat bonus. On performance, it has solid acceleration, 0–60 mph in roughly 4 seconds for the Extreme model and a range between 230 mi and 440 mi, depending on trim and battery size. However, it hasn’t been smooth sailing behind the scenes. Fisker’s bankruptcy in mid‑2024 halted production, froze software updates, and drastically cut resale values, I’ve seen examples lose up to 80% value in a year. Owners report software bugs, glitchy infotainment, odd braking behavior, and even safety recalls tied to power loss . One owner called it a “rough” ownership experience even while praising its design. Pros: It looks and feels premium, offers strong acceleration, a generous real-world range, solar roof perks, and a fun, laid‑back cabin vibe. Cons: Software and electronics lack polish, warranty and future support are uncertain after bankruptcy, resale value took a nosedive, and driving dynamics, like braking and cornering, are uneven compared to rivals. The test route was 312 miles. I made it to 283 miles (4% and 15 miles left on the meter) when I stopped to charge. So a total 298 miles of range at 100%. Started at 100% and now charging at Electrify America in Santa Maria. Arrived with 9%. 222 miles. So about 244 miles if took to zero percent. Mostly 75+/- mph.
