2026 GMC Sierra EV 14-mod battery, 11kW 15-mode charger: a mid-pack composite means the records-and-test-drive call matters more than the headline.

Score read

A 64/100 makes this worth comparing, not chasing. Do not let the composite hide this split: software and driver-assist score is 100/100, while range and efficiency score is 37/100. Reddit threads cluster around owner satisfaction and range — verify both against the service records. Documented completion matters more than the recall count itself.

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 283-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

The Financing Room · What Actually Happens

Dealers make ~$3,575 on the average car loan.

After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.

01 · Without pre-approval

78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB

With pre-approval ↓

Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.

02 · Without pre-approval

GAP + extended warranty upsell

While driving at approximately 60 mph on an open road with no obstacles present and no braking input, the rear wheels spontaneously locked up without warning. No brake pedal input. No warning light prior to the event. No obstruction in the road. The vehicle has been subject to an active manufacturer recall for rear wheel lockup due to transmission control valve failure. The dealer's own diagnostic system generated a report showing six active fault codes in the following days including lost communication with the Brake System Control Module and Transmission Control Module. These codes were not addressed on the repair order. The dealer attributed the lockup to an Automatic Emergency Braking activation without diagnostic confirmation and performed no repair. The manufacturer's own internal bulletin dated January 22, 2026 acknowledges the exact fault codes present on this vehicle as a known defect. The dealer cited this bulletin to dismiss the concern while stating no problems exist. A persistent brake noise has been confirmed by two separate authorized dealers across three visits with no repair performed at any visit. The vehicle has required five dealer visits in 77 days of ownership with 1,729 miles. The defect remains unresolved and poses serious risk of loss of vehicle control at highway speed.

Component/system malfunctioned: Adaptive Cruise Control integrated with Traffic Sign Recognition/Speed Limit Assist (camera-based speed sign detection and automatic speed adjustment). Vehicle available for inspection upon request. While driving ~35 mph in 35 mph zones with Adaptive Cruise Control engaged, the system repeatedly misread speed signs (or GPS data) as much higher (e.g., 75 mph). The vehicle then automatically accelerated aggressively toward the incorrect higher speed without driver accelerator input. Acceleration is sudden and strong due to electric powertrain torque. This problem can be reproduced in multiple locations in low-speed zones. Safety risk: Vehicle sped up dangerously in restricted areas (residential, traffic, pedestrians), risking loss of control or collision before I could brake or disengage system. No crash/injury occurred, but risk was high. Problem not reproduced/confirmed by dealer or service center. Vehicle/component not inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance, or others. No warning lamps/messages/symptoms before acceleration; dashboard briefly showed incorrect higher limit. First occurrence UNKNOWN, but multiple incidents since ownership. Appears to be defect in software, camera recognition, or integration of Traffic Sign Recognition with Adaptive Cruise Control, causing unintended high-speed acceleration in low-speed areas.

I bought the truck brand new from Gregg Young in Atlantic, IA. While an hour into the drive home, the truck began shuttering as if the transmission was having problems finding the gear. I immediately made an appt with their parent dealership of Gregg Young in Plattsmouth, NE. They had the truck for a week and couldn’t duplicate the transmission issues after I reported several occurrences and symptoms, they also didn’t provide a service invoice of the work performed while I found was unusual. As I was driving the truck home from repairs it started hesitating and having difficulty finding gears. I didn’t think much of it since the dealer claimed there was nothing wrong. This past weekend while going 65 mph down the freeway the transmission started shuttering as well as the truck and the tires began to lock up to the point of almost losing control, there was also metal on metal noises. I had to pull over and luckily driving real slow I made it home. The Gregg Young dealership were I bought it will take no responsibility and provided falsification since no service was provided nor upon checking app gps there was no indications it left the dealership while in there possession for a week, will contact GMC in the AM since this has now become a safety issue and there was metal on metal contact noises and the serious risk of a crash.

Service advisor started the vehicle and claimed no codes, and everything appear OK. Later in the afternoon the service advisor called to inform me that the vehicle had a siezed engine and had siezed during a test drive on the highway. I am the owner of a 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate equipped with the 6.2L V8 L87 engine (VIN: [XXX] ), purchased new approximately three months ago. I am filing this complaint proactively. I have experienced no engine failure or symptoms to date. However, I am filing based on a documented pattern of L87 engine failures in 2025 and 2026 production vehicles, confirmed by multiple GM dealership technicians, which suggests that the manufacturing defect underlying NHTSA Recall 25V-274 may not have been fully resolved by GM’s stated production improvements dated June 1, 2024. NHTSA Recall 25V-274 (April 2025) covered 597,630 vehicles from model years 2021–2024 for catastrophic L87 engine seizure caused by connecting rod bearing failure and crankshaft defects. GM excluded 2025 and 2026 model year vehicles based on a claimed manufacturing fix. However, multiple 2026 production vehicles have since experienced the same bearing failure at extremely low mileage. Open NHTSA Investigation EA25007 is already examining vehicles outside the original recall window, and Recall Query RQ26001 is investigating the adequacy of GM’s remedy. I am requesting that NHTSA consider expanding the investigation scope to include 2025 and 2026 model year vehicles. As a 2026 owner of a $90,000+ truck with the identical engine configuration, I believe my vehicle warrants inclusion in any expanded investigation or recall action. I was out of town and driving on the highway around 75 MPH, when the motor suddenly lost all power. I was driving in the far left lane approaching an overpass. The sudden loss made it next to impossible to make it off the overpass on a very busy freeway safely while trying to navigate many cars trying to pass me. The truck came to a complete halt on the white shoulder line, 50' off of overpass SH 31. The truck would not restart or do anything i could not push it any further off road. I excited the e truck and stood off the freeway for my safety, as the truck was on very edge of freeway. GMC Roadside assistance took my truck to nearest dealer. This occurred on a Friday, dealership gave me a loaner car to get home as i was from out of town. They stated it would probably be the following Tuesday maybe Wednesday before they could tell me anything. I never heard from dealership service department, so i called them on Thursday morning and was told my truck motor had seized up and a new motor was needed. Service advisor stated GMC had been contacted and paper work started and I would be getting a new motor. The service advisor also stated that he had called and left a message. I stopped at a red light in the middle of a 50 mph intersection when the light turned green The engine completely shut off, and it didn’t want to turn back on. I was stuck in the middle of the intersection in a very high risk area, putting myself and other drivers at risk. OnStar diagnostics didn’t report any issues with the truck. According to their diagnostics, everything should have been running perfectly fine. The motor shut down completely and we weren’t able to shift the truck into neutral in order to try to move out of harms way. There was no warning lights or anything before this happened. The first tow truck driver that came by was told that he was there “in order to do a jumpstart” He ran a diagnostic on both of the batteries and said that they were perfectly fine. Another tow truck had to be dispatched since the first wasn’t equipped to take the truck. In total we were stuck in the middle of the intersection for almost three hours. The amount of times we almost had someone crash into us during that time was very concerning. Dashboard and lights were all working perfectly fine. Auto start stop technology seems to have shut down the motor and was not able to get it to turn back on. This vehicle is a safety hazard.

My 2026 GMC AT4 3.0L Duramax had a catastrophic engine failure on Sunday, February 8, 2026. It went into reduced acceleration and also fault code PO6DD. Thankfully I was not on a highway. The truck would not run over 45 MPH on flat ground, and then by the time I got it to a safe location 5 miles away it would not run over about 30MPH. This obviously resulted in the truck being towed to a dealership. I have been told the entire engine will be replaced. Upon further reading, I suspect this is a thrust bearing failure that is a well-known issue in this LZ0 Duramax engine. What I have read, this issue is occurring mostly on trucks built from May-Sept 2025, and my truck has a 7/2025 build date. This could have been major safety hazard if the engine had failed in a major freeway/highway.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a recurring transmission issue in my vehicle. The transmission consistently jerks and shifts erratically, particularly in the morning during initial operation when at cruising speeds of about 50-75 mph. This behavior occurs when the transmission temperature is below approximately 100°F and happens on a daily basis. The gear changes feel harsh and abrupt, kind of like it doesn’t know what gear to be in its raising concerns about both drivability and long-term transmission reliability. I brought the vehicle to an authorized dealership for inspection. After evaluating the issue, the dealer informed me that the behavior was due to the vehicle being in “Sport Mode.” However, this explanation does not resolve the concern, as the severity and consistency of the jerking appear abnormal and occur regularly under the same temperature conditions. Given the persistent nature of this problem and its potential safety implications — especially during acceleration and low-speed driving — I am requesting that this issue be formally documented and investigated. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

26’ GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 3.0l Duramax experiencing Harsh shifting occurring sporadically while accelerating and deceleration. More frequent and severe during quick deceleration. Severe clunking/rear wheel lock up while reversing. Very repeatable. Truck was a dealer demo and had 2400 miles on it when I bought it last week. 2026 Sierra 1500 AT4 with 3.0L Duramax Diesel. Three major issues. 1. 2960 miles, thrust bearing failure caused low oil pressure and internal damage. Vehicle needs complete engine replacement. The truck is still at the dealer with no ETA on engine arrival and replacement. 2. Vehicle has severe electrical issues. battery replaced on second day of ownership due to over charge and smoking. The truck would randomly lose the ability to produce sound through infotainment system on start. This includes warning sounds and audible turn signal sound. Dealer said it’s caused by faulty Amp which was replaced. 3. The truck shut off (full system shutdown) and the transmission failed over to neutral while driving on the highway and failed to restart. Barely restarted on second attempt. Dealer has no idea why it is doing it. However the vehicle was throwing multiple code related to transmission module failure, brake module failure, transmission module failure, etc.

3.0 Duramax Engine Failure - 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate at just 6,755 miles and only 77 days of ownership. Within the first few thousand miles, the truck intermittently had warnings appear of “reduced acceleration, drive with care”. The truck would limit its ability to maintain speed. When it occurred during highway driving, it was particularly dangerous. The check engine light would also come on. After parking the vehicle for a bit and restarting it, things returned to normal. At the dealership, we reported the issue and leaned the computer reveled a P06DD code which required them to check the crankshaft for excessive play. Our truck was out of specification requiring complete engine replacement at just 6,755 miles. “Service Bulletin 25-NA-307 which states this code may set due to thrust bearing failure. following 25-NA-307 checked crankshaft end play and got a reading of 0.3400 in. the maximum spec is 0.0124 in.“ GM and Laura Buick GMC should not have sold this truck to us without inspecting it for this known issue. This extensive repair required complete removal of the cab from the chassis.

My 2026 GMC 1500 is equipped with the 2.7L L3B & 8L90 Transmission. At approximately 1000 miles, I noticed that in 2nd between 2700-3200 RPM, a vibration could be felt throughout the cabin and would occur whether with or without throttle application. I am able to recreate the issue during hard acceleration or placing in manual mode. No matter the Vehicle mode selection (sport, normal, snow, tow/haul, etc.), the issue still persists. I took the vehicle to a local GMC dealer at approximately 6K miles to diagnose. I requested that we test drive another 1500 with the same 2.7L and Transmission. They brought out a 2026 Elevation Quad Cab with the 2.7L; less than 20 miles on the odometer. The same vibration was present in 2nd gear at same RPM band. I requested that the issue be escalated to a local GM rep. for further investigation. However the response from the dealer was inadequate and basically stated that no warranty work would be considered because it seems to be “normal operation”.

I do not have an official communication from the dealer who is servicing my vehicle. However, they have had my vehicle for almost 3 weeks and they tell me that the engine has failed and needs complete replacement. They said the engine lost compression and quit running, it now cranks and does not start. Although the engine has not been disassembled we believe the point fo failure to be in the rotating assembly of the bottom end of the engine.

Rear right clunk in rear suspension. Dealer kept truck for 2 days and can't figure it out. Worried it could be a suspension nut or bolt and could cause a crash.

I saw the report regarding models of Chevrolet trucks not receiving owners manuals from factory. I purchased a 2026 GMC AT4 in early October 2025. It didn't come with a manual either. I emailed my sales person at Ewing GMC in Plano, Texas informing him that it was missing the manual and I was told that GM had decided to only include physical manuals with Denali grade trucks. This didn't make any sense whatsoever. I would prefer to have a physical manual available to reference in the event of vehicle issues.

"New Wheels/Tires for 2026 GMC Sierra 1500? Hey y’all! I just traded my car in for a new 2026 GMC Sierra 1500. So far, I’m very happy with the choice! I was looking into some visual upgrades for it. For now, I’m just focusing on wheels/tires and maybe a 2 inch level. I know for sure I want black wheels because, let’s be honest, the stock wheels aren’t that good looking! I’m mainly looking for y’all’s opinion on what wheel brands I should look into. Something that is the right blend of reliable and price efficient would be ideal (I don’t think I need forged wheels). I currently have 17 inch wheels with 265 tires on them, and I was told I could put up to 22 inch wheels and 285 tires on them. I think I’d be happy with 20s or 22s, and I’m fine with whatever width for the tire. I also want to make sure I can find the right shop who will do the job right. Meaning, they can install without harm, and they can put the TPMs back into the new wheels. The idea with this truck is just to look clean and mean, but I don’t want to stand out too much. Would love to hear y’all’s thoughts and advice on this! Happy to be a new member of the GMC family."

"2026 GMC Sierra Denali EV STANDARD range questions Hi folks, I have an opportunity to hop into my first EV truck (first EV at all) this weekend and trade in my old truck. I'm getting a sweet deal on a new '26 Sierra Denali standard range. Almost $8k below MSRP!! My biggest concern is the range mileage. It's estimated to have a range of 280 miles on a full charge. Daily charging (80%) would put me I assume around 220 miles of range. I drive about 100 miles daily, and I have no issue with plugging it up every night with a level 2 charger. I live in the DC-Metro area, so we do get cold during winters which I assume makes the battery range shorter. I'd like to pick someones brain about how many miles of range they get on average with a standard trim. I've researched the topic, but can't really find any real world answers. I'd like to know how many miles you drive on average, what is your truck saying you get miles wise on a 80% charge? How long does it take for your truck to get up to 80%? Does the standard battery charge faster than the extended or max versions since its a smaller battery? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks."

"Switching from GMC to Ford questions I am looking for opinions on the most reliable F-150 engine (2025 or 2026) I use my truck for daily commute to work and just hauling tools in the bed. I currently have a 2022 GMC sierra 2.7L i4 Turbo and I have had nothing but problems with it. (New transmission at 40k miles, new camshaft, rocket arms, about to need another transmission, etc...). Not sure how it lines up with the ford 2.7L. I was told that the GM 2.7L is more reliable right now compared to the 5.3 v8 and I was highly disappointed with the amount of engine and transmission issues I had. I know some people with the 3.5L v6 and they say it’s been good. How is the ford 2.7L v6? Any info helps as I'm not as familiar with Ford. Thanks!"
