2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV 14-mod battery, 11kW 6-mode charger: the score gets it into the conversation; battery and service records decide whether to make an offer.
Score read
A 64/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. Software and driver-assist score is the cleaner read at 87/100; range and efficiency score needs more diligence at 37/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite range and owner satisfaction as recurring problems. A clean VIN lookup matters more than the headline count.
Price context

Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.

Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.
- Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.
Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 286-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

Source & disclaimer
Dealers make ~$3,575 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
Margin handed to the dealer's finance department — for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

At about 800 miles i noticed ticking from the engine and random and intermittent jerking. Some of which were very severe that felt like someone rear ended me. I took into the dealer with my complaints. They kept my vehicle for 2.5 days and didnt give me a loaner. The my were unable to reproduce the jerking and said the ticking was normal. They showed me the ticking and said its normal and will go away after it warms up. They did a vehicle update and said it will help. They said theres nothing else they will do. I knew something was still wrong but felt like they wouldnt do anything and I couldn't give up my vehicle for days at a time. I continued to drive it and was planning on taking it to a other dealer for a check up. But at about 3500 miles. One day the truck began squealing and grinding. I attempted to drive the truck home and the truck just died on the freeway. Luckily I knew something was wrong so I stayed in the slow lane so it was easy for me to get off. Thats the first time the check engine light came on but it was too late. I had it towed to the dealer and they checked and it was catastrophic engine failure.

I purchased a 2026 GM Chevy Silverado. At 500 miles all dash warning lights came on while driving, radio played static. I disconnected battery in order to reset the computer. At 1400 miles in the heat of south Florida the air condition stopped working. after completing my drive 60 miles away with no ac i disconnected the battery to reset the computer. The ac started to work after this reset. I went to the dealer and they wanted me to leave the truck. They could not provide a loaner and the fact that this is my only vehicle I could not leave it. At 2000 miles the computer screen stated that there was an update. The computer would not update when I pressed start update. The screen then said unable to update conditions not met go to the dealer. I went back to the dealer and they said there is no update and they reset the computer. THIS IS GOING TO KILL SOMEONE WHEN THEY PULL OVER ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE CHRISTMASS TREE ON THE DASH CAUSED THEM TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY AND A SEMI IS GOING TO KILL THEIR ENTIRE FAMILY WHEN THEY ARE STOPED ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE GM CANNOT MAKE A VEHICLE THAT WORKS CORRECTLY. PLEASE GO AFTER GM THE COMPANY THAT STOLE YOUR TAX DOLLARS WHEN THEY WENT BANKRUPT.

Driving at highway speed’s transmission was hard shifting on its own from Drive to Low and vice versa on its own the first time. Truck taken to dealer and was told that transmission needed an update. Second time driving at highway speed experienced hard shifting in rear and felt like I was hit from behind. Lost propulsion and check engine light came on. Was told that the valve body needed to be replaced. New truck with only 7,500 miles on it. My guess understanding is that this has been an issue with Chevrolet/GM 6.2 engines. Hard shifting and loss of propulsion accord while accelerating to pass another vehicle.

Driving at 70 mph when I tried to accelerate. Heard a loud bang from the exhaust and immediately started to lose power. I had zero warning that anything was wrong. Warning messages flashed and I lost propulsion. As I was pulling over the engine died completely and shut off. Purchased the vehicle on 11/25 and had 4100 miles on it. 6.2L Chevrolet ZR2. Dealer confirmed that that the crankcase failed which resulted in catastrophic engine failure. Currently waiting on new replacement engine..

The 6.2L V8 engine on my New 2026 Chevy Silverado Zr2 Bison blew up around 8000 miles. While driving on highway the car shutoff and shifted to neutral while I was rolling, where I then could put it in park and restart the car to move to a safer location. Truck was towed to dealership where codes cleared during the time getting it to the dealership, and was told it was good to go. About 2 miles leaving the dealership the engine had shutoff again except did not turn on. Dealership said the camshaft had cracked and wanted to replace the whole engine under warranty.

Truck has less than 1800 miles. Was at a stop light and the vehicle started shaking and making metal tin rattling sounds. Stopped for gas, started the vehicle all noises went away. Got onto the freeway and about 1 mile down the road the truck lost power at 70 MPH. I slowed down and the vehicle continued to lose power. I put my flashers on and started to pull over and the truck died, all dash lights went black and the truck was off. I rolled to a stop and parked the truck. Called a tow truck. The vehicle wouldn’t start. It turned over at first and then nothing. I was not able to shift the vehicle into neutral. The tow truck asked me to assist while we Dragged the entire truck into the flat bed trailer. Dealer called late after noon the next day. Saying the motor was seized and had to be replaced entirely. The service technician said this has been happening to the 2021-2024 6.2L engines as well and they’ve seen plenty of them. They recalled those a used a band aid fix of replacing the oil with heavier weight and a new drain plug. He said it’s not working and all those trucks are having the same issues. He said, this was not his first 2026 motor seized in a 6.2L. He’s had another one recently low mileage that seized also. I asked for a different motor. I was told not to worry we will give you a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty. The truck was $100,000! And now they only want to warranty it for the same 3 years, just higher mileage… The motor is on back order and no telling when I’ll get my truck back. This is my 3rd Silverado and my 2017 is still going strong with 100,000 miles on it. They have a serious consumer issue on their hands and should be buying these trucks back as we will not be able to rely on the new motors. Some people have had 3 and 4 motors replaced for the 2021-2024, 6.2L engines.

The transmission malfunctioned 4 times in the first 3 weeks of ownership. Once on the way home from the dealer, but I could not return as they were closing when I picked up my new 2026 Silverado 2500HD pick up. It has 2 issues so far since that ride home, 2 times, on separate occasions, I was approaching a red light and slowing down when the light changed while I was in a slow speed, so I accelerated to get to the speed limit, while doing so, the truck hesitated for a couple of seconds then banged into gear. The second time for that same scenario was several days after resulting in the same hesitation and then bang into gear. No warning lights were reveled. I called the local Chevy dealership, as instructed by the dealership I purchased it from was 107 miles away, they gave me an appointment to investigate the problem. Upon arriving, I needed to back up to align my vehicle with the entrance to the service area and my truck would not go into reverse. I tried 2 times shifting from park to reverse and nothing, I put it back into park while still running and went into the service area explaining my new issue, the service writer got a mechanic and he tried shifting into park with no luck. He then shut off the engine, waited about 30 seconds, restarted the engine and shifted into reverse and it worked. They checked for codes and none were present, so they test drove it for about 20 minutes, did not experience either symptom and email GM service assistance and were told to have me come back and they would check the parameters and make sure the software was updated as well as the transmission fluid level and condition. I returned for them to accomplish those tasks and drove home, 2 miles, and had no issues till the trip I was going on today, I warmed up the vehicle as it was only 37 degrees today and when I put it in reverse, it did not engage, so I shifted into drive, it engaged then I put it in reverse and it did finally engage. Now I'm going to renotify the dealership

There were no warning lights, alerts, or messages before the failure occurred. As the fluid was lost, the vehicle began shutting down while still moving in traffic and stopped in the middle of the highway with vehicles behind the driver. The truck attempted to place itself into Park before it had fully stopped, and once stopped in the roadway it could not be shifted out of Park. The driver had to move the disabled vehicle off the roadway while traffic was approaching from behind. Safety Concern: The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of transmission fluid and shut down in an active traffic lane without any warning, creating a serious safety hazard for the driver and surrounding vehicles. Photos show the truck stopped in the middle of a busy highway with traffic passing while the owner documented transmission fluid pouring from underneath the vehicle. Additional photos show the dealership repair report stating the transmission cooler line was left unclipped from the fan shroud assembly, allowing it to contact the A/C compressor clutch and wear a hole in the line, causing rapid transmission fluid loss. The service manager also stated that other trucks have arrived from the factory with the transmission cooler line not properly clipped or secured. Videos available as needed. Since this incident and repair, the vehicle has continued to exhibit abnormal drivetrain behavior including shuddering and harsh or unexpected downshifts during acceleration and when using cruise control. The vehicle has been returned to the dealership multiple times for inspection, but no confirmed cause or documented successful repair has been provided.

Same problem since 2024 on the silverado infotainment center goes black, radio cuts out. The dealer is hiding this problem from the buyer and not telling them. GM has been working on this for 2 years and they can still sell the truck with an electrical problem. Lemon

At 4400 miles on new truck started a random cylinder misfire which engine jerking and causes ESC, Emerg breaking and adaptive cruise control to turn off. Will reset itself then do it again. Little over 100 hours on new engine. It happens on longer trips on of off the highway.

On Tuesday 01-20-2026, I was driving from Dallas Fort Worth to Oklahoma City, OK. I was driving down the highway I-35 at about 80 mph. Suddenly I felt a loss of power and my truck started to bog down. As I pulled over, the engine stalled out and would not start up again. It would crank but it would not start. My truck was towed to a dealership in Norman, OK. "Landers Chevrolet". I was contacted by the dealer the morning of 01-21-2026 informing me that my engine is going to need replaced. My truck is a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado LT Trail Boss with 6.2L and 6,457 miles on it. At this time, I don't have any paperwork or a copy of the repair order because the vehicle is still in the shop. The dealer told me that the motor is on order and should be here in 4-6 weeks. I purchased this vehicle on October 16, 2025.

Vehicle has less then 700 miles. Upon driving vehicle, the dashboard started losing information, no speedometer. When I tried to pull the truck over to the side of the road, the power steering was lost. It was nearly impossible to turn the wheel, then the engine stopped. I was unable to turn on blinkers or hazard warning lights. When I put the vehicle in park to try a restart the engine would not turn over. The transmission was locked in Park and unable to shift to neutral to try to push vehicle to safe spot. At this point I was blocking the road. Called for roadside assistance, two hours later vehicle was towed to Chevrolet dealership, were it is being assessed.

AT 150 MILES ON THE ODEMETER THE TPM LIGHT CAME ON I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY, GOT OUT AND CHECKED ALL 4 TIRES. NOT NOTICING ANY ISSUES I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED ON THE STEREO. THE SPEAKERS SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE BLOWN APART. STATIC AND THE SOUND OF MUFFLED VIBRATIONS. I DROVE TO MY INTENDED DESTINATION AND TURNED OFF THE TRUCK. AFTER FINISHING MY BUSINESS AT THIS LOCATION I STARTED THE TRUCK AND THE TPM LIGHT WAS NOT ILUMINATED. THIS IS A HIGE SAFTY ISSUE. AS A FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDIC I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN DEAD AND MULATED PEOPLE THAT STOPED ON THE HIGHWAY AND GOT OUT TO CHECK THERE VEHICLE AND WERE STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE IS GOING TO CAUSE PEOPLE TO IMMEADIATLY STOP AND GET OUT OF THERE VEHICLE THINKING THERE IS A FLAT TIRE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A COMPUTER GLITCH IN THE 2026 CHEVEROLET SILVERADO 1500 SERIES.

November 28th 2025 we were coming down Logan canyon in Utah at 50 miles an hour when i was passing another vehicle on the left I felt a hard shift and a prompt came on the dash that said reduced acceleration. So as I was passing the vehicle I was pulling in front of them and lost the ability to accelerate or even hold speed. I passed the vehicle got in front of them and slowed down rapidly without any ability to control the speed of the truck. At this point when I would push the gas nothing would happen so I pulled off the side of the road. While we were sitting, there was suddenly a burning smell in the cab so we rolled down the windows and made sure the doors were unlocked in case we had to jump out. We sat there for a minute everything seemed fine I checked the accelerator and it was working again so we drove home. I immediately took the truck down to John Watson Chevrolet to have it looked at. I told the service writer what had happened and she said there was a code that had been thrown however there was nothing now and since everything seemed fine I shouldn’t worry about it because the computers trip pretty easily on these new trucks. I insisted on making an appointment so she scheduled me for Tuesday the second of December. I took the truck in just before 730 today the second of December. Christina from John Watson checked me in and told me she would let me know when my truck is ready. She called me at 12:34 but I missed so she called again at 1:18 to tell me that she had some news on my truck and that it was going to need a new engine. I took her the dealership rental back and she sent me to enterprise for a 45 day rental. They have had the car for just over two weeks at John Watson Chevrolet in Ogden Utah.

Driving down a single lane road at aprox 30-35 MPH, when without any warnings the engine began to make a noise (like it was eating rocks), smoke began billowing out the tail pipes, the dash cluster lit up with error codes (unable to read due to attempting to get vehicle off the road), engine completely stopped, dash cluster would only show the check engine light, when attempting to get the vehicle towed it could not be put in neutral and the parking break had engaged and would not release. Vehicle was towed to nearest dealership and they confirm the engine had "seized" and would need to be replaced. Existing engine has 4190mi. If this had occurred on the highway or busy street I dont feel I could have safely gotten the vehicle out of harms way.

Engine derated when towing travel trailer putting us in an unsafe situation during heavy traffic. No warning other than display on dash reading “reduced acceleration - drive with care”. Took immediately to dealer and they confirmed “thrust bearing failure” manufacturer defect and showed us Field Service Bulletin 25-NA-307 dated 9/30/25.

I purchase a brand new 2026 Silverado ZR2 with a 6.2 engine. A little over a week later at 511 miles it left me stranded on the side of the road. Towed it to the dealership and the dealership advised there was a misfire and cylinder number eight. However, they were unable to find a solution and had to contact GM engineers. I had to replace it with another new vehicle and lost money on the “trade”. Dealership only advised that “it needed extensive repairs”. It’s clear that the 6.2 issue had not been addressed properly.

Went back next day and chevy does not supply any manuals. I could buy one for $100. if they were available. No car seat info or child restraint info. NOTHING. Did chat with GM customer service, no positive results. Asked about recall N252540430. ON owner manual being supplied. Dealer and customer service know nothing about it. I can look on phone, computer, or other digital ways to find info. Or sit in my car and use a tank of gas+ trying to find info on vehicle computer, if it is even there?

There is an incredible reliance on navigation and communication while driving. This and many other vehicles have intermittent disconnects to CarPlay This causes inattentive decisions while attempting to reconnect. I have personally had two trips to dealership with no resolution numerous photos showing loss of communication with vehicles main information center.

I purchased my new 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck on 12/04/2025 from CMA Chevrolet in [XXX]. When the truck was delivered, there was no owner's manual with the truck. I recently found that there was a recall associated with this issue. It is XXX. I thought that maybe manuals were now online. When I read the recall, it said that it is federal law that one be issued with each new vehicle. My VIN is not part of the recall. I contacted my salesman and he said that their parts department said that sometimes the manufacturer, GM, puts out VINs in blocks. This does not make sense. How does a manufacturer know something that they did not do?? I would like my VIN added to the list of vehicles that are affected by this recall. Thank you INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My vehicle is listed as not being affected by any current recalls. When I purchased my vehicle in December 2025, it did not have an Owner's Manual in the glovebox, which I found concerning. Why do I not qualify to receive something as important as the owner's manual under that current recall regarding that safety issue?

"Car is parked in the garage, about 50-60F overnight. One of the reasons why I traded it in to get a change. The Silverado was about about 130 miles away from home, based on a 60 temp, I am getting about 360 miles. I think I can definitely work with that. If I am truly getting 300 during the winter, I think I’ll be super happy. #10· May 25, 2025 Running winter tires will stop the rate about 10% and another 15 to 20% in the cold for sure. I am up here in Canada and the truck does great in the winter time period. Drive the truck 24 hours without turning it off at -39F -39 C blowing through 6 inches of snow for 450kms then 2 foot drifts for another 300 kms and for about 400kms per charge. The next 900 kms the roads were clear at those cold temperatures and did 565kms in a 100 to 10% charge. Still very reasonable. #11· May 25, 2025 Photo attached of the travel when the risers were clear and sunny out running 18 inches blizzack tires on my 4WT."
"Will the Silverado EV work for you? I'm seeing a lot of "Work the Silverado EV work for me?" posts, so I wanted to share my real world experience at just over 7,000 miles on my 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss Max Range. My driving distance is 400+ miles (EPA rated first over 450), but the towing distance is dismal, about 160 miles from 100% to 0% towing my 8.5 x 24 car hauler. The cold weather hasn't really made much of a difference for me, this is what I got towing it this fall in warmer weather as well. If you're towing with an open trailer you'll probably get a bit more range, but I haven't verified that yet. This works for me, but I wanted everyone to know the REAL WORLD towing range, and that's about 0.6-0.7 mi/kWh at 65-70 MPH. It wasn't much different with my 2025 Silverado EV LT Extended Range (140 miles 100% to 0%) that was night back as a lemon. All that being said, I absolutely LOOOOVE the truck and would recommend it to ANYONE who needs a 400+ mile range EV or a towing rig that runs less than 120 miles a day. Best part? It cost me a penny less per mile to drive than a Prius when I charge at home (which is most of the time). 😂"

"Max Charge Rate Doesn't Mean Sh*t It's all about the curve. Recently in a Model 3 vs Ioniq 5 10-80% test, the Model 3 peaked twice as high at 250kW vs the Ioniq's 125kW, but the Ioniq still finished slightly faster. Why is that? Well, the Model 3 charge curve drops right away and the Ioniq (really all eGMP vehicles) hold steady for much longer. The same can be said the Cybertruck Charge curve vs the Silverado EV or even the F150 Lightnings measly 150kW peak, but very strong curve. On a road trip, what really matters is the **average** kW from 10-80% and the range that 10-80% gets you. 10-80% charge time can also be used. This is why the Porsche Taycan is the fastest road tripping EV, its charge curve **and** peak rate are insane.. So the next time you're comparing EVs and want to know how fast it charges, do not be fooled by the peak charge rate. It's more of a marketing scheme vs real world charging performance. 10-80% time is key along with range."
"UPDATE: My point here was really to show the worst case scenario for a towing use case for the Silverado EV with a Max Range pack. Obviously aerodynamics are the biggest contributor to range loss, and my car hauler is an 8.5 W x 7.5 T x 24.0 L rectangular box, which is pretty much the worst aerodynamics you can get."
