2023 Lucid Air Touring AWD with 19-inch wheels: 11 recalls on this make/year mean the seller has to show completed paperwork on the exact VIN.
Score read
A 71/100 makes this a records-first inspection. The useful split is software and driver-assist score at 97/100 versus owner feedback score at 48/100. On Reddit, owners keep flagging the same two issues: owner satisfaction and software tech. If the seller cannot show recall completion, price that risk or move on.
Price context
This trim started from $95,000 new. Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.

Gotchas
- Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.
Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.
- Verify Owner feedback is the part to read carefully (48/100).
Mitigation Read the complaint themes and ask whether this VIN has already had those issues repaired.
- Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.
Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 425-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Read the complaint themes, not just the count, and ask the seller whether those issues have shown up on this VIN.

Dealers make ~$11,990 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
That's 17 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

On Saturday [XXX], in Chino Hills, CA (ZIP Code 91709), my 2023 Lucid Air Touring experienced a sudden unintended acceleration event. Shortly after releasing the accelerator pedal to obtain a parking pass, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated at a high speed, resulting in a collision with the pavement and a post on the premises. This incident bears similarities to the all-weather mat recall; however, Lucid has confirmed that my vehicle's mats are not listed under the recall. The failure appears to be related to the Lucid electric propulsion system, which is available for inspection upon request. As a result of the crash, I sustained minor injuries. A police report has been filed with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department by Deputy M. Scott (Report #[XXX], Chino Hills Station, Chino Hills, CA 91709). Lucid is currently conducting an investigation and has issued Incident Report #[XXX]. Additionally, State Farm Auto Insurance (California) has assigned an appraiser to assess the body damage. There was no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the issue appearing except for one short incident of sudden unintended acceleration experienced by my husband which has been reported to Lucid. Please let me know if further information or inspection arrangements are needed. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I am submitting this complaint regarding a severe safety defect in my 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring (VIN: [XXX] ). On [XXX], while driving on a state highway with my family—including my [XXX] and [XXX] children—the vehicle suddenly and without warning limited its speed to 35 MPH. This created an immediate and dangerous situation on a high-speed road, significantly increasing the risk of a rear-end collision. I was unable to accelerate beyond this limit, forcing me to pull over abruptly and navigate traffic hazards. This incident could have resulted in a serious accident or injury. I immediately reported this issue to Lucid Customer Care and took the vehicle to an authorized Lucid service center. The vehicle was out of service for 25 days (February 23, 2025 – March 19, 2025) for diagnostics and repairs. Ongoing Safety Concerns & Lack of Response from Lucid Motors Since this incident, I have repeatedly contacted Lucid Motors Customer Care, but I have received no clear response regarding the cause of this dangerous failure or any assurance that this will not happen again. Furthermore: My vehicle has experienced a total of 45 days of downtime in the first 10 months of my lease due to various mechanical failures, including a heating system failure ([XXX]). Lucid has failed to provide a resolution or clear direction regarding my attempts to return the vehicle. I have lost confidence in the safety of this vehicle and am concerned that this issue may impact other Lucid Air vehicles on the road. Request for NHTSA Investigation Given the seriousness of this defect, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue to determine: Whether other Lucid Air vehicles have experienced sudden speed limitation issues. If this defect poses an ongoing safety risk to drivers and passengers. Whether Lucid Motors is adequately addressing and communicating these defects to consumers. I believe this defect could pose a serious INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The Lucid Air Touring rapidly accelerated from a full stop in a line of cars. (The traffic hold up was due to a road striping crew that stopped traffic.) My wife was the driver and I was in the passenger seat and the car was in drive/hold mode before suddenly taking off; the car in front of us was about 20' ahead. In spite of my wife's attempt to stop the vehicle, it would not stop until it hit the vehicle in front of us and pushed it into the vehicle in front of it. Additionally, the vehicle's built-in safety features to brake automatically in such a situation did not work. There was no pre-collision braking, no warning and no other automatic safety features activated. My wife is an excellent and experienced driver and drives frequently in heavy traffic without incident.

Drive Mode - Moves the vehicle reverse and Reverse Mode - Moves the vehicle forward, no matter what it moves only FORWARD direction. If I would have trusted the Mode and drove it would have hit a high KWH charging station, would have been a major accident and lost my family! Lucid customer support recorded the whole incident and acknowledged and ordered the towe service! Vehicle is in Lucid Service center till now! They said it is software issues and all usual stories and rectified now and ready to drive( I am afraid to drive honestly as this is very dangerous issue- forward and reverse works to move ONLY in forward!) Here are the sequence: 1. Brake light failure 2, Vehicle will be in reduced power 3. Brake System failure 4.few more errors drove slowly from the parking lot to charging slot then when I put reverse mode - it moved forward only! Before this happened ADAS Issues: Lane Departure Protection Failure, Front Emergency Brake Failure, Traffic Drive Off Alert failure - Lucid Service acknowledge and corrected before!

The vehicle became completely inoperable suddenly while driving on the road due to a "drive unit failure." Fortunately, I was still at an intersection when this occurred. I don't what would have happened if I was in motion, especially at higher speed on a highway. The car was towed to the nearest Lucid service center, but it remains there over 6 weeks later as they are not able to fix the problem.

I was maneuvering the car in my driveway and it seemed to accelerate suddenly. I drove off my driveway and impacted bushes and a low stone wall. I do not think I pushed the accelerator.

I was driving on I80 west in San Francisco with about 75 mph. Suddenly shows turtle mode and dropped the speed to 52 mph. I was on the second lane and a lot of vehicles are behind us with same speed. I towed to the service center.

On one occasion, with the shifter set to reverse, pressing on the accelerator resulted in the car lurching forward. This problem first appeared in April 2023. I do not know if this is a drive problem, software problem, or something else. My safety was put at risk as I nearly hit the back wall of the garage. I have reported this problem to Lucid some time ago but Lucid has not responded. Neither Lucid nor any other entity has attempted to inspect or make any corrections. There were no warnings or symptoms from the car prior to the problem. Some other Lucid owners have reportedly experienced similar problems.

On several occasions, the vehicle's driver assistance systems (specifically the "keep hands on the wheel" and "keep eyes on the road" warnings) have malfunctioned during normal driving, producing continuous, distracting audible alerts that persist until the car is parked and restarted. Of note, these warnings appeared during freeway driving despite having both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk by having an unresolvable visual and audible distraction that interfered with driving in freeway conditions. I have reported this issue to Lucid some time ago but have not received any response from the company. Therefore, the dealer has not attempted to reproduce the issue, and there is not an independent service center for Lucid vehicles. Accordingly, the vehicle has not been inspected by any company or agency. There were no warnings prior to the malfunction. This issue first began to appear in or around late April 2023 and have occurred on 7 or 8 occasions since then, always while driving on the freeway. I have tried various strategies to resolve the intrusive alerts while the vehicle in motion but have been unable to do without unreasonably compromising my safety and ability to pay attention to the road and other drivers. The shifter, steering, accelerator, and brakes appear to work normally during these alerts.

Driving on a road trip from Norfolk to Louisville from military duty and the car lost power suddenly on the highway at night. Very scary. Had been averaging about 72 mph. Absolutely no reason for it. 36 degrees outside in the middle of rural KY. Awful experience. Likely gonna need to get towed.

Tried to Auto Park the car and almost hit my other car. It didn't recognize the fender of the Tesla. I had to push on brake. I have only tried auto park once. I am pretty sure it would have hit my Tesla. With highway drive assist and steering Icon yellow, the car doesn't maintain the lane and swirl and drifts into the next lane without warning. The color of the steering Icon does change white. This has happened several times mostly as the freeway curves. Once I am able to bring the car back into the lane the steering Icon turn yellow itself, without any intervention from me. As a person is driving and focusing on the road it is not possible to look to the icon. It not only gives false sense of security but also drift is worse then lane assist without drive assist. With lane assist it at least chimes and gives a red color when the car is drifting. current functionality is either faulty or counterintuitive and risky for self and public.

driver headlight intermittently failing, restarting, and failing again. driver door now not locking correctly and electronic sealing incorrect. intermittent failure of sound throughout car including all warning sounds and turn signals. multiple contact to manufacture without any return of contact from anyone who can actually assist and extreme delays to reach customer service on the order of hours to even have someone answer the phone

Actual miles displayed after charge on the display compared to actual are discrepant by about 30%. One my first and second charge I thought I was missing some thing but on one of the charge I noted the car to have charged to 413 miles and shown in the attachment below, I drove 210.2 miles and remaining charge was 64 miles (loss of 139 miles or 33% (139/413). I am not ready to buy the argument that it depends on weather or driving etc. I am living in southern California weather has been 60-80 F. I having driving at 20 -70 miles / hr and using regenerative breaking.

1. Monitor on dashboard stops functioning and camera views (front and back) are not available. Message on the screen is a yellow "triangle" with "!" and "UNAVAILABLE". Lack of camera view hinders reversing specifically in a parking lot with crossing pedestrians and other cars and hazards.

"‘23 touring picked up in march, 41k miles, still love to drive it! In fact for the one time I had to go to service center in Atlanta (5hrs away) I chose to drive instead of having them shop it - and got the GT loaner while they swapped the battery! \- range: I have 20” wheels and generally get a little below advertised, but I mostly drive highway at non-optimal speed \- safety systems: pretty happy with, a few extra cautious cross-traffic warnings but nothing really consistent or annoying \- mobile key: works really well for me! My fobs basically sit in their original box way away from car, so 96% of time, works fine, 3% of time I gotta pull my phone out… 1% time I use the card! \- dream drive pro - I think the hands free and lane change capabilities were pretty big updates, were they not? Having said that - it’s not perfect but I prefer acc anyway Sad to see others with so many problems - hope u get some of those things fixed! JoinedMay 21, 2024Messages201Reaction score119LocationNorth CarolinaCarsLucid Air PureReferral Code10M0U4OH \- range is below what I expect. On road trips I stop ever 2 hours so range isn't that big of an issue. But it should be better IMO."
"- Range Issue: Can't say that's been my experience. My best range exceeded the quoted rating by a small bit, PA to central VA ~400 miles on a full charge. - Safety Systems: A bit better than other vehicles I've driven. I haven't had it trip unexpectedly yet, except maneuvering out of my garage. I'd say it's one of the least unsafe safety systems I've had to put up with. - TPMS: no issues there, reasonably close to my own measurements (within 3-4 psi) - Auto Park: I've only used it a few times, worked each time. not comfortable with the way it stresses the power steering pump - Mobile key / Bluetooth: quite unreliable, I'll agree with you there - Android Auto: I don't use it, much prefer the native interface Specifically didn't purchase DD Pro. Really don't trust those systems, and I don't even pre-order video games let alone automotive features Service has been nearly flawless for me, and always pleasant to work with. I suspect this correlates to how jammed up your local service center is, among other things. > tarator said: > > Auto Park works very well on a Tesla. On Lucid is COMPLETELY useless. > > > Click to expand... Disagree, I got so irritated with our Model 3 after trying a few times. I just park the car manually- quicker. Autopark only useful when you can't open the doors."

"Serious Safety Failure on My Lucid Gravity (v3.3.9) – Driver Display Went Blank at Highway Speed I wanted to share a recent, severe safety incident involving my Lucid Gravity in case other owners have experienced anything similar — and to highlight the difference between how Customer Care and my local service center have handled it. A few days ago, while driving on the highway with my family, the entire driver panel on my Gravity went completely blank. No speedometer, no drive mode, no blinker audio or video, no indication of whether the vehicle was in Park, and all controls for lights, wipers, etc. disappeared from the interface. Essentially, the car left me driving blind with no indicators or feedback at 60+ mph, and there was nowhere safe to pull over immediately. Once I was eventually able to stop and put the vehicle into Park, the system came back — but the failure itself was extremely unsafe. I documented everything on video and reported it immediately. Here’s how things have gone since: **Service Center:** My local service center was good. They reached out, collected detailed information, and brought the car in for review. They provided a loaner (a Lucid Air, not a Gravity, but at least something I can drive). **Customer Care:** On the other hand, Customer Care’s handling has been disappointing. * They did not respond for several days. * Their initial reply directed me to call a phone line or ask my service center — even though this was clearly not a routine service question. * After I followed up again, they finally confirmed that engineering is investi"
"Lucid Air - software improvements from 2021 to now Hello, I'm curious to learn about the experience of early Lucid Air owners, how was the software back then to where it is now? Has Lucid been good with rolling out regular updates, fixing stability issues, and overall improving the quality of the car? I got my Gravity last week, and feel the software is overall far inferior to my previous Tesla Model X. For one, the phone key is totally disabled right now, and the key fob can be finicky to use, has to 'shake awake' sometimes. One busy morning I couldn't even get the car to recognize the key fob, and the app wasn't connecting, I had to dig out a card fob. It only takes one moment like that to make the car feel unreliable. I've noticed random times when the car's cameras won't work when parking, car keeps forgetting settings for the climate / seat, strange routing preferences that seem less intelligent than Google maps, unreliable cruise control, etc. I did expect some hiccups with a first generation vehicle, was Lucid Air like this initially and how is it now? Thanks."
"\- never tried auto park, but given it's part of the car, I would expect it to work. \- SiriusXM/Spotify/etc. is a disaster. Hopefully the person who came up with the idea of using cellular for SiriusXM isn't around anymore. The car is fun to drive, but in no way the best car I have owned as others say. If my lease was up today, I would be hard pressed to go with another Lucid. JoinedFeb 4, 2026Messages24Reaction score23LocationMD Auto park in my Tesla HW4 model Y is flawless.
