The 2025 Rivian R1T All-Terrain Dual Large Plus (20in) packs 665 hp, 292 miles of EPA range and a 129 kWh battery, and the score gets it into the conversation; battery and service records decide whether to make an offer.
Score read
A 68/100 makes this a paperwork-and-test-drive decision. Do not let the composite hide this split: software and driver-assist score is 85/100, while range and efficiency score is 37/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite range and owner satisfaction as recurring problems. Documented completion matters more than the recall count itself.
Price context
This trim started from $76,900 new. Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.

Gotchas
- Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.
Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.
- Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (37/100).
Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.
- Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.
Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 292-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/175,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

Dealers make ~$16,628 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
That's 16 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

I leased my Rivian on June 28th. Around July 21st, the vehicle started to drift to the left. On August 19th, my vehicle started to develop bump steer over uneven road surfaces. I brought my vehicle in for service on August 20th. From August 20th to now, my vehicle has had 3 alignments performed, none of them have been maintained spec. Attached are screenshots/pictures of the alignments. Between the first and second alignment the vehicle was driven about ~50 miles. Between the second and third it was driven about another 50 miles. I do not have exact mileage as Rivian has not released service records to me. My vehicle does not track straight on any surface. In addition, because of the regenerative breaking of the Rivian, when you stop the vehicle it pulls significantly to the right, approximately a half lane for every 75 feet. My concern is that the vehicle cannot maintain an alignment over the course of ~110 miles, does not track straight, exhibits bump steer, and Rivian has no available solve to this behavior.

The car while driving at normal highway speeds announced that there was a high risk of electrocution associated with driving in wet conditions. This was via a red screen in the driver display. Car is 2025 R1T with 15,000 miles on it. Anyway near the vehicle was at risk of being exposed to 400v electricity.

We leased this R1T from Polestar Boston, though we live in Vt, because it was assured to us that in the event of a warranty or recall issue, Polestar Boston would pick up the car and tow to the service center for the repair. Now with this turn signal recall, the gentelman on the phone told me no... that they will not come repair the recall. That if we want it fixed, we have to drive the 4 hours to Boston and they will change the blinkers for us. What legal rights do we have here? thank you

While scheduling service for NHTSA recall No. 25V-387/FSAM-1693 (Front Turn Signal Lamps malfunction that leads to no fulfillment of FMVSS 108 requirements) I was refused correction of the recall by the Rivian Miami Service Center rep (Service Advisor Joel). I was informed that Rivian has informed the Service Advisors that this recall will only be performed on already malfunctioning lamps or in cold weather areas (car is in Miami). However, none of this is defined in the recall notice sent, nor in the Rivian and NHTSA recall database. Requested written confirmation by Rivian of this directive to both the Service Advisor and Service Representative but neither had one. The advisor mentioned he had seen one in the past but does not recall where. Meanwhile, Rivian is refusing addressing the recall on my vehicle.

The manufacturer service tech advised that the clevis mount holding the front passenger suspension in place was missing a weld to the frame (the attached work order says it was re-welded, but when asked they said the weld was missing). This resulted in creaking noises through the cab when turning.

What Owners Are Saying
"2+ Years and 27,000 miles I have an early VIN R1T. After more than 2 years (March, 2022) and 27,000, I thought someone might wonder what long (ish) term ownership looks like. Put simply, the Rivian R1T is the best vehicle I have ever owned, driven or ridden in. That includes: BMW, Tesla, Bentley, Subaru, Honda, Toyota (180,000 miles on that one), Mercedes, and Ford. The R1T has gone on long west coast road trips to visit national and state parks. It has been overlanding through coastal mountains. We go to the mountains to ski. We trailer motorcycles to remote areas. One of my kids is a rower so we are constantly dealing with piles of wet and dirty crap. Pets and people are in and out a lot. Even with above average abuse, the interior remains immaculate. The gear tunnel is so practical and useful. I thought it was a gimmick at first, but is so much more. The seats are the most comfortable car seats especially on long drives. The general build quality continues to impress me. Oh and the truck is so much fun to drive and quick off the line. My only gripe is the charging pad and dirt trap in the console. That is a small price to pay for a vehicle I am happy to get in every day."
"Another Owner review... I know these get redundant but feel like I have a bit of a unique perspective bc I've owned wayyy to many other cars and can compare. To start here is list of cars I've owned (in order) 1996 Volvo S60 2000 Saturn Ion 1999 Ford Explorer 2004 Chevy Cobalt 2004 Toyota 4Runner 2014 BMW 3 series 2015 Prius 2016 3 series 2018 4Runner 2019 5 series 2019 Ram 1500 2017 Tacoma 2018 Audi RS3 2018 Tesla Model X 2018 BMW M2 2021 Chevy Tahoe 2021 Land Rover Defender 2021 F150 Lariat 2022 F150 Lightning 2022 Porsche Taycan 2020 Mercedes GLS 2022 Tesla M3 2023 Rivian R1T To start here is my ranking of best vehicles I've owned in order 5. M3 4. F-150 Lariat 3. GLS 2. Model X 1. R1T Experience with R1T: I have owned the R1T for a few weeks now, have already had a few issues so I don't think I'm being idealistic, but this is hands down the best overall vehicle I have ever had. Size: The size is perfect. I am not a contractor so while I have always loved having a truck the full size was just too much to navigate in city setting and midsize was always a little cramped inside and no luxuries on midsize. Ride quality: The ride quality of the R1T is impressive and I'm surprised at some of the reviews I have read. The GLS is probably the most comfortable riding car I've owned, but the R1T is easily second. M2 most fun car to drive but can't really compare that to a truck. For the size tires (20in AT) it handles everything well and has great on road manors. Storage/Interior: The convenience of the storage options is huge and interior packaging is top of the line. Overall quality is leaps and bounds above Tesla and really does feel luxury. It's by no means BMW/Merc level but it's really nice. Tech: This is another area I am surprised people complain about so much, especially knowing it will only get better. I think it's way better than Sync and only pales to Tesla. I have had CarPlay on so many cars but honestly think the best overall experience is Tesla which does not have it. So I (in minority) am glad Rivian is focusing on their UI and not letting CarPlay take over. I also LOVE the screen sizes and layout. The thing I hated most about the lighting was the screen. It looks ridiculous, I much preferred the 12in horizontal screen in the Lariat. Speakers: probably the best standard system I have encountered. I do have the meridian system so can't speak to in house. Overall value: I don't know how you beat it. I think under $120k it holds up against anything. Why I'm excited about the future for Rivian: with everything I love there are so many places they can improve the vehicle. And that's a good thing bc I think it allows them to make small changes and stay competitive in the market. Little conveniences could help push the upper price (soft close doors, audio upgrades, interior choices, photochromic roof, continued UI upgrades) I also think they have a really great chance to corner a unique sedan market. How many people lo"
"> ProDriven said: > > The point being, Rivian's range calculation is significantly off when compared to other companies and many of us have data to prove it. > > > Click to expand... Bullshit. Rivian's range calculation, specifically the range remaining that is displayed when you navigate to a certain location, is pretty much spot-on. I have 10,000 miles of road trips saved in a spreadsheet that confirms this. If anything, Rivian is extremely conservative in its estimates and will tell you you will have a lot LESS range when you arrive than you end up having in real life. That's because the range calculation in the navigation knows where you are going, knows the elevation changes, knows your drive mode, and has learned your driving style including how fast you usually go on highways. That's enough to make a reasonable prediction of how many kWh you will use and what you will have remaining at your destination. Do you perhaps own a Tesla? Tesla is the only company that I know of that has systematically gamed the EPA rating system to try to make themselves look better. Every other company's EPA estimates are pretty much accurate in my experience. Both gas and EV. #38· Sep 10, 2024"
"When we drove my wife's R1T from Maryland to its new home, we had headwinds in Washington State that reduced our efficiency to about 1.8 miles per kWh at 70 mph. Because R1T is so steady in the wind, we didn't realize how hard the R1T was working until we checked the efficiency. I hope @Cb9894 is getting confident about the range he will and won't get under various conditions. These are amazing vehicles! Most of us are very happy, after we learn how to manage EVs. Fortunately, our family's Bolts since 2019 taught us most of what we needed to know to be happy with our Rivians. #### DaisyRivian"
"Thank you! I absolutely respect everyone no exceptions, I am just frustrated seeing people posting wrong information because it delivers the wrong message and makes people make wrong decisions. All those factors needs to be put in place when people review them and not give people best case scenario. I am satisfied as a car only but the range i feel i was ripped off. Nothing wrong with the car. The only time it can give more than 2.0 is local in the winter. Highway winter is about 2.0 with speeds like turtle. matter fact, I decided to start a review channel to expose all those fake reviewers for the car. Every single person and reviewer i seen online doing it for the money. I do own multiple EVs and frustrating seeing what people are saying vs reality. That 2.4 kwh range is definitely achievable in summer or drive in city but not in highways even driving at 70mph its impossible. just a little background i have a tesla, polestar 3 abd bmw I4 they all give better epa than rivian. If the rivian actually had that improved air suspension everyone is talking about i wouldnt even care about that milage anymore. The suspension at small bumps makes me wanna catch superman and i am exaggerating and rivian said this is normal. If this is normal for 100k car then j can tell you this is a piece of old slow screen and crapy “junk” air suspension not even honda would use"
"#1· Sep 1, 2024 We have had the vehicle a little over a month and non-stop issues. Was in the shop for 10 days and supposedly resolved the issues, but only 2 of the 4 issues resolved, but the 2 biggest issues still remain. We are losing 30% more charge in less then 100 miles of freeway only driving, flat terrain. We drove 45 miles the first day after the supposed repairs and used 72. The next day we drove 60 miles and used 92 miles. Service and follow through is the worst I have ever experienced. First texting, then long waits to no avail on the toll free line. Press 1 for a call back and of course no call backs. Very, very disappointed in this purchase and would not recommend buying one to anyone. We love the vehicle, just can’t continue with the ongoing issues 🙁 #2· Sep 1, 2024"

"If I’m being honest Few things, as I honestly regret trading in my Tesla for the Rivian R1T for the following reasons: - Autopilot/FSD: Rivian highway assist + doesn’t work as great and is limited to highways only. Which I find a decent amount of roads not able to start highway assist - Service: I’ve had to take in for the same issue and each time they make me wait 3+ months due it not being a “safety concern”. Frustrating cause it’s the same issue I’ve taken it in for 2x times already (along with 4 other things). To top it off, my tweeter blew so I’ve been driving for 3 months with even worse audio quality. (I have messaged numerous times about getting bumped up but to no avail.) - Auto Heated Seats/Wheel: Honestly it’s a small thing but makes a huge difference. Miss not having to think about it. - Customer Service: I’m still waiting on my adapter, but am penalized for not buying after they decided to prioritize new deliveries. As they take a while to get back to you, just put in an order and try to reach out the guide Gretchen after the first couple of days (they barely respond). - Charging Efficiency: Not as well optimized as a Tesla, it’s just not as worked out as a Tesla. Also bigger battery capacity = longer charging. - Rattles/Noise (NVH): Lots of door, speaker, and suspension rattles - Software Updates: Not as flushed out as Tesla and takes like 3x longer to update. (Not a big deal, just don’t start it if you’re in a hurry) I expected some of these issues going into it (with Rivian being a new company), but debating whether I should have took the risk. Please Rivian people don’t hate me for being honest. I’m trying to be unbiased and I’m not saying anything that other car reviewers have said before. Especially for a $80k truck, Rivian should prioritize their existing customer versus doing the bare minimum. It’s a good truck but the Rivian service and quality let it down. Just be warned and maybe Rivian can help me get bumped up in service and get adapter! Wanted to give an honest review and maybe could help someone on the fence know what they’re getting into! Note: Posted this in another thread."
