The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 S packs 201 hp, 209 miles of EPA range and a 62 kWh battery, and park-outside or do-not-drive risk hangs over the trim — verify the VIN before you negotiate.
Score read
A 46/100 makes this not a casual purchase. Software and driver-assist score is 61/100, but build quality score is only 0/100. Owners on Reddit repeatedly cite owner satisfaction and software tech as recurring problems. Treat missing repair records as a price problem, not a footnote.
Is it a good deal?
Used examples are running around $22,102 against a $45,290 original sticker, about 49% of new. A reasonable spot for the score, but condition matters more than the headline number; verify recall completion, battery health, and service history.
Who this is for
✓ Good for
- ⏱ Daily commuter ≤50 mi/day, predictable charging
✗ Avoid if you are a
- ☷ Family hauler 3+ kids, cargo, towing
- ↦ Road tripper Long trips, needs DC fast network
Gotchas
- Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.
Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.
- Verify Build quality is where the inspection earns its keep (0/100).
Mitigation Inspect alignment, cabin noise, suspension feel, tires, and trim wear more carefully than usual.
Pre-purchase inspection
- 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
- 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 209-mile rating after a full charge.
- 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
- 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
- 5 Drive rough pavement, check door and hatch alignment, and listen for trim noise before you negotiate.

Dealers make ~$7,463 on the average car loan.
After the price is set, the finance manager runs four plays to rebuild margin. Every buyer without a pre-approval is a target. Here's exactly what they run — and what stops each one.
78% of dealer loans carry a hidden +1.13% markup above what the lender actually charges. You never see it — it's buried in the contract. · CFPB
Dealer must match or beat your lender — they can't add margin invisibly. The markup play is dead on arrival.
Once you answer, they stretch the term to hit your number. Median result: $4K less off the price, 12 more months on the loan. · Industry avg
Financing is done. Only the sale price is on the table — and the dealer knows it.
Back-office F&I profit averages $1,975/vehicle, up 8.5% YoY. These products exist — but dealer markup is 4–10x what you'd pay elsewhere. · Dealership Guy
Dealer GAP runs $500–1K. Your insurer sells the same coverage for $100–250 over 5 years. Now you know.
"Your loan fell through — come re-sign." This pulls your APR up +5% on average. It's legal. It works because you've already driven the car home. · Ctr for Responsible Lending
A lender commitment letter means the deal is final. "Pending dealer approval" doesn't apply. You can't be yo-yo'd.
That's 23 months of your car payment — handed to the dealer's finance department for nothing.
Takes 2 minutes. No obligation to use it — but you'll walk in with all the leverage.
Pre-approval is a soft credit inquiry — no score impact. FICO treats all auto-loan hard pulls within 14 days as one, so you can still shop rates at the dealer.

UNKNOWN -- I was turning 90 deg from the street into my 30' driveway, going very slow as usual with foot on brake pedal to slow further before entering the garage (the door had just finished lifting). But as I was straightening the steering coming out of turn, the car suddenly accelerated, brakes and steering both were unresponsive and the car smashed into the garage. Slowed further by the impact, the car caromed into the garage stairs smashing them to pieces before coming to rest against the rear garage wall after I hit the OFF button (it's an EV). There was no alert from the onboard systems of a pending crash and the air bags did NOT deploy. I was uninjured. Posting my accident on a social media owners group, other owners have had similar experience of the electronics going out while driving. The car remains at a 45 deg angle inside the garage now 6 days later awaiting the insurance company to come and extricate it for their assessment of the damage to the car.

I am submitting this complaint as a follow-up to three prior NHTSA complaints regarding this same vehicle: Complaint #11714848 (submitted 2/1/2026) Complaint #11714852 (submitted 2/1/2026) Complaint #11716040 (submitted 2/5/2026) These prior complaints document a progression of serious electrical, charging, and vehicle control issues that have worsened over time. Initially, the vehicle experienced widespread software and electrical failures affecting core driving and safety systems, including loss of power while driving, unintended system activation, blank instrument displays, and failure of safety-related features such as the SOS emergency system. These issues escalated to include severe charging system failures, inability to reliably charge the vehicle, dramatically reduced range, and intermittent propulsion loss. On February 4, 2026, the vehicle became completely inoperable, displaying multiple critical warnings including “Drive system error,” “Electrical system not working correctly,” and inability to start or move the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealership on February 5, 2026 for repair. I have now been informed by both Volkswagen and the dealership that they have been unable to identify or implement a repair for these issues. Despite this, they plan to return the vehicle to me without performing any substantive repairs. I have been told that diagnostic fault codes have been cleared and that the vehicle is now considered “safe” to drive. However, no root cause has been identified, and no repairs have been made to correct the underlying defects that led to loss of power, system failures, and complete inoperability. The issues previously reported remain unresolved and include: Loss of power while driving Dashboard and infotainment displays going blank while driving Vehicle shifting into park unexpectedly Cruise control activating without driver input Charging system failures preventing reliable charging Repeated warnings indicating unsafe oper

The vehicle lurched forward as I was parking and hit a parked vehicle in front of me; it accelerated forward even though my foot wasn't on the accelerator. I have contacted VW and was told to take the vehicle to a VW dealer to be inspected; that is happening next week. I did not notice any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the accident. I had just installed the VW recommended software update 2 days prior.

On May 28, 2025, a 2023 VW ID.4 spontaneously caught fire while in use. The local Fire Department and County Hazmat responded to the scene. The vehicle was declared a total loss due to thermal runaway and lithium battery fume toxicity. Crucially, the vehicle experienced a secondary ignition/re-fire several days later while in the custody of a towing company, resulting in the total destruction of the vehicle and damage to third-party property. The manufacturer participated in a joint inspection of the remains in late October 2025 but has not provided an explanation for the failure. This vehicle represents a severe public safety hazard, as the fire occurred without warning and the high-voltage battery system proved unstable enough to reignite days after the initial suppression. I am requesting a formal investigation into the high-voltage battery stability and potential manufacturing defects for this model year to prevent similar life-threatening incidents for other owners.

I have been experiencing multiple issues with my vehicle. The backup camera frequently fails to respond, and the doors often do not open properly or get stuck. A significant concern is that the car does not hold a full charge, which severely impacts its range and reliability. I have brought these problems to Volkswagen on numerous occasions, but the most serious issue has recently emerged: the car has started stopping unexpectedly while driving. This is extremely dangerous and could potentially lead to an accident. It is a major safety concern that requires immediate attention.

There is an ongoing NHTSA investigation into serious door-handle defects that can cause the doors to open unexpectedly while driving, which has remained unresolved for over a year. Additionally, the vehicle is subject to a recall regarding a missing gear-position indicator, posing a potential roll-away hazard. Despite my efforts to address these issues, Volkswagen has not provided timely or adequate remedies.

For the second time in this car, I experienced sudden acceleration while parking (turning right). I had to slam the brakes to prevent hitting a parked vehicle, causing whiplash. No warning or safety features engaged. See NHTSA crash incident report 11593929. There are sufficient similar reports to warrant an investigation and hold VW accountable.

On 9/17/2024 roughly at 10:00PM, while in the drive-thru picking up food, my Volkswagen ID.4 suddenly self-accelerated out of nowhere as I was slowly driving towards the window to pay for food. I was completely shocked—I’ve never experienced anything like this. I tried to react quickly, but the car surged forward and slammed into a large cement light post. The impact was hard, and the car is now severely damaged. What really shook me was that none of the safety features I’ve come to rely on worked—there was no automatic braking, late front collision warning, and despite the heavy impact, none of the airbags deployed. I ended up feeling all bruised and now have some severe mid-back pain. The thought that I could have easily been hurt more seriously, or worse, could have harmed someone else if this had happened in a crowded area, is traumatizing. This has made me completely lose trust in the vehicle’s safety systems. If the car can do this in such a low-risk situation, I can’t imagine what might happen in a more dangerous scenario. I brought up other safety concerns to Volkswagen that were completely dismissed.

Driver-side door opens and closes by itself while driving or when the car is stopped. Driver-side door also locks and unlocks itself while driving or when the car is stopped. Unable to unlock driver-side door from the outside of the car. Some times the driver side door will not open from the inside all the way. Before, this was just a frustrating inconvenience, but yesterday, it became a scary, safety hazard. I was stopped in the middle of the street during peak hour traffic at a green light unable to start my car because the driver-side door had opened itself, but I could not open the door all the way to close it and the car would not let me start because it thought the door was open. Even after I was finally able to open my door and tried to close it, the car still would not start. I had to try repeatedly to start the car back up before it finally started. This happened for several minutes while I had my small children in the backseat and other cars were honking around us and nearly hit us. I have told the dealership and taken the car to get serviced, but the part to fix the door is back ordered with an unknown delivery date. The dealership says that many of their 2023 ID.4 customers are facing the same door issue and they've reported their frustrations with VW headquarters. This needs to be investigated and VW should issue a formal recall.

On the evening in question I stop the car in 5 ft front of my garage, which still does not have an automatic garage door opener. I press P to engage the parking brake and take it out of drive. I returned one phone call getting a voicemail and I don’t recall the exact sequence but I definitely had my seatbelt off and I reached to the passenger seat where I had left some things that I needed to take into the house, at that point, and again with neither of my feet on or near the accelerator, I noticed the car was moving and the next thing I knew it crashed through the garage door and hit another vehicle. The estimate for damages to my vehicle is about $14,000 and Volkswagen and insists from their analysis of the black box that nothing is wrong. However there are some issues that I’d like to discuss.

The instrument panel in my car went completely dark, leaving me without any knowledge of my speed. This is a massive safety risk. I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow, but there are no issues that came up when this failed, it just failed to boot correctly, and nothing I could do would bring it back.

Date/Time of Incident: 1/29/36 at approximately 5:44 PM Location: Small school parking lot Vehicle: 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 On 1/29/36 at approximately 5:44 PM, I was pulling out of a parking space at low speed in a small school parking lot in my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. As I began to move, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own, the steering would not turn left, and the car did not respond to braking, moving at an abnormal rate of speed over a very short distance. Prior to this, there had been no warning messages or alerts, except a routine notification to service the car in 1,000 miles. The collision involved three vehicles: my VW, the main car I hit, and a rental car. My car spun and veered sideways, the parked SUV on the right was pushed sideways, forming a rough “H” pattern, and the rental car went up onto a rail ramp where children walk. My grandson observed the car’s tires spinning at impact, and he hit the seat behind me. Without the parked cars, the vehicle would have continued directly toward the school building, creating a very serious risk of fatal injuries to parents, staff, and children. Injuries: Myself — pain and emotional trauma; grandson — soft cast on foot/leg, crutches, pain; his mother — pain. The vehicle is awaiting Volkswagen guidance for inspection. Likely involved systems include Speed Control, Fuel/Propulsion System, and Electrical, but the exact cause is UNKNOWN. The incident has been reported to State Farm (claim #0596B819B), Volkswagen (Case #07294060), and police.
Since purchasing my vehicle in January of 2023 the front breaks have been squeaking. I brought this to the attention of the dealer where I purchased the vehicle, several times. I even asked them how I will I even supposed to know if I need new brakes because the start of the squeaking is typically a sign to get your brakes checked. Anyway, online auto forums are loaded with this squeaking brake problem!!! A few weeks ago I went in for service and VW told me my brakes were at 6mm, and suggested replacement of the pads. Yes, at 6 mm! So now all I can help but think that VW has known all along about this brake problem and at about year three, they feel that they can recommend a brake job. After leaving the dealership, I went to the garage near my house and they ordered new front pads and rotors. My problem has been resolved!! Squeaking gone!! The safety concern here is that driving this vehicle with the squeaky brakes for year will cause the driver to ignore the ongoing squeaking noise, which may result in them driving beyond the life of the brakes.

The cruise control failed to slow down, instead it accelerated. My safety and the safety of my families was put at risk due to a sudden stop in I25 southbound cause us to slow down and when I pushed the down arrows to slow us down and pushed the brake pedal we didn’t slow down, instead we were jolted forward in accelerating speeds. Thankfully we missed the car in front of us due to us me swerving into the shoulder to assure no collision. The problem has happened on 4 different occasions. Volkswagen is aware of the issue and we have not received any kind of update or remedy for the defect. No one has inspected it, we were to have an appointment this Monday Sept 9th to have it all checked out. The gps, sos button, road side assistance and speedometer aren’t functioning properly in our car as well. No warnings lights were on and no notifications of any problems.

It is very easy to inadvertently touch the "SET" button for the cruise control. The button is capacitive so a very light touch activates the button, and it is on the outer edge of steering wheel spoke, meaning a light brush while turning the wheel activate the button. When maneuvering at slow speeds (such as in a parking lot) this results in the car accelerating, uncommanded, and without warning, up to the minimum speed of the cruise control.

The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID-4. The contact stated while pulling into a parking space at barely 2 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated and crashed into the rear of a building. The contact stated that while reversing from the scene, the failure recurred, and the vehicle failed to stop upon depressing the brake pedal and was uncontrollable. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed into a big concrete and iron post and stopped. A nearby auto body shop technician informed the contact that the vehicle was a total loss. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the automatic emergency braking system failed to engage as designed. The air bags did not deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed, but the contact did not have the police report information available. The vehicle was towed to the police impound lot. The insurance company then towed the vehicle to IAA, a salvage vehicle auction lot, but the insurance company had not confirmed that the vehicle was a total loss. There was was property damage. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

Cruise control / resume cruise can inadvertently be activated due to the haptic touch pads on the steering wheel. On multiple occasions when exiting a highway after using cruise control and while turning the steering wheel, my hand inadvertently brushes against the RESUME haptic touch pad, causing the vehicle to immediately speed up to my last preset cruise speed. This is a constant issue as I use my vehicle daily for work purposes, and has caused multiple near-accidents. Per my dealer, Volkswagen does not have a fix for this. This is a non-issue in my other VW vehicle, as it has button instead of haptic touch on the steering wheel. Haptic touch should not be on a steering wheel.

The speed indication that syncs with posted speed limits does not work, it either posts an incorrect speed or no speed at all. VW indicated this only affects some vehicles and they have no fix. It’s extremely dangerous if I see the limit as 70 mph on the car and then 1 mile later see a sign indicating I’m in a 35 mph zone

Automatic parking assist and reverse braking systems exhibit severe, recurring malfunctions causing collisions and injuries. On May 24, 2025, at approx. 4:10 PM, auto-park uncommanded the vehicle to strike a mailbox in a familiar spot. Dealer dismissed incident without diagnostics. Beyond this collision, the vehicle exhibits frequent, violent, unintended braking during reverse. This occurs when: Turning body to look back: System abruptly locks brakes, causing whiplash-like neck pain to me. Dealer stated this was "normal" for "driver seating" despite explanation. Encountering minor obstacles: System misidentifies leaves/garbage bins as threats, engaging full, hard braking. This causes extreme distress and has violently thrown passengers forward. My teenager son sustained a visible bruise for one week after hitting the console during one such incident March 2024 These system malfunctions create high risk of injury to occupants and pedestrians. The unpredictable braking events are a fundamental flaw. These issues were reported to the dealer within weeks of purchase and to VW Group of America Customer Care (800-822-8987) after the mailbox incident. They remain unresolved."

I bought the Volkswagen ID4 on lease from one of the Volkswagen dealer Dick Hannah based out of Portland, OR. It's 4 year lease, paying $760/month. I have received many recalls from Volkswagen, one of them was door handle and lock issue. I have complained to Volkswagen that door get open while i am driving the car and this needs to be fixed, they have said to me that, they do not have any parts to fix this and placed me in queue from last 4 months. I am not able to drive the car where i am paying $40K on lease payments in 4 years. This is really a safety concern where i do not take my kids into car and not driving much. I tried to call Volkswagen and ask them to cancel lease, they have asked me to pay remaining months payment which is $18K. I am not able to cancel lease, not able to drive, and they are not able to fix. I would request federal govt to have strict rules for auto makes outside of USA and have some penalty to pay to customers if they have recall. They send so many recalls, than what is use of buying new cars and paying them huge money, there should be some amount to pay to customer if there are recalls. This is safety concern to US Citizens and me.

My car has been under a recall notice since 2024. A fix was not available until January. As soon as repairs were available, I scheduled an appointment for repair (requested 12/29/24, scheduled 2/13/25). The week of the repair, I received a call that said the dealer had not actually ordered the necessary parts and I would need to reschedule. I scheduled another service appointment on 3/18/25 for the next available date, 4/30/25. This week I received another call that yet again the dealer had not ordered the parts for repair. I have lost faith in the manufacturer's willingness to repair this defect, as two appointments scheduled rough 4 months from a request for repair have not led to them completing the warranty work. This is especially troubling as I have a small child who often rides in the car with me. In addition, I am leading the vehicle and responsible for completing recalls in a timely manner, and the dealership will not allow me to complete my responsibilities. The dealer is Royal Auto Automotive VW in San Francisco.

We have found that the carseat belt is fraying at the base of the seat rendering this seat unusable as it would not keep our daughter safe in the event of an accident. We have attempted to work with the manufacturer on a resolution for this defect however they will not take responsibility and claim that it is due to 'external environmental factors' but cannot provide a single example of what would have caused this. It appears that the belt is rubbing on the seat base when in use which resulted in the fraying. We have taken excellent care of the seat, use it properly, have have had it inspected upon install by a CPS technician. This is a clear defect and would like Evenflo to honor their warranty and take action on this defect. A quick search found that other parents have experienced this exact issue which is concerning as Evenflo had been made aware of multiple families impacted and even more babies using an unsafe product.

As I described via various work orders to VW Centennial service since 05-15-2024 (5 service orders ago). I am seriously concerned about the sensor ability to prevent and effectively work when needed. Today, 02-26-2025 I am documenting a clear scenario where ACC failed. On Freeway 215 driving 60 MPG with ACC engaged. Traffic on the freeway came to a standstill, the ACC engaged and stopped my ID4 from 55 MPH. This is the ideal outcome. However it failed few moments later. ACC showed ready when at standstill. When traffic resumed, ID4 accelerated to commensurate with the traffic at 25mph and ACC kept on par with the car ahead which is intended with the ideal distance. 5 seconds later, cars stopped again. This is where ACC should have stopped my ID4. However it did NOT. ACC did not stop my ID4 only to find myself facing a red collision alert second later within car length away. Had to hit the brakes hard and swerve to avoid collision with the car in front. I was led into a false sense of security as ACC worked minutes prior. This is not the first time ACC failed, and based on my accounting, it only works ¾ times. Even failure to engage ¼ times this can result in a serious collision. Many times I’ve discussed with the service asking them to replicate the same issue reported here. I also gave service exact scenarios where this happened. ACC also consistently fails 100% on highway off-ramps as the sensor does not see off-ramp barriers. As such you can always find ID4 ACC accelerating into increasing elevation off-ramps. A clear example of such you is on Freeway 215 and 95 off-ramp. This is a severe safety flaw that is 100% reproducible that I’ve explained to my service department time and again.

After NHTSA 919A been applied for my VW ID4, NHTSA Recall ID Number 24V875 was not properly addressed. 1 week after the recall completed by Centenial VW, I still have computer crash and blackout in the main dash and infotainment systems. I've shown these photos to David Lucero at Centenial VW service and he claims it was done properly. Attached is the photos.

I was driving with Travel Assis on, the car steered left into the center divider then swerved right into other lanes… I was unable to regain control of steering wheel or break to deactivate travel assist for about 10 seconds, the steering wheel felt stuck in the direction that Travel Assist was steering to.

- The door handles do not open on most occasions when there are passengers in the back seats. It is available for inspection. - I cannot get the passengers out and that is a risk in any situation when I need to open these doors. - Yes, the dealership confirmed that this issue is part of the door handle recall (NHTSA #24V651). - It has not been inspected by others outside of friends and family. The dealership said that because there is no solution, there is nothing they can do about it and therefore it doesn't need to be brought in. - No warning lamps, etc.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 65 MPH using adaptive cruise control (ACC) the steering column display changed from MPH to kilometers per hour (KPH). See attached photo and description. The change of cruise control setting distracted the driver and caused confusion since the ACC speed setting changed from 65 MPH to 104 KPH. It took a minute for the driver to realize the units of measure caused this change. The dealer has not confirmed this failure, since it is intermittent and has provided not resolution. Several communications to Volkswagen customer service provided no solution.

This vehicle has continual electronic issues. Aside from the 2 (as of now) recalls that are out on it- with no repair available- the functionality of this car is completely undependable. The computer screen (which controls almost every function of the car) often shuts off in the middle of operating (e.g. driving on a highway) and the only way to "fix" it is to shut the car off. Not ideal. Of course, this issue is intermittent so when i brought to VW they were unable to replicate.

I left my office at about [XXX] on [XXX] Thursday for home, traffic was moderate, approaching the long weekend. I reached home at 5:29 pm, opened the garage and started parking the vehicle inside the car. All of a sudden, the car just took off and randomly accelerated and the next thing I found was that the vehicle landed and stopped right inside the house on the small island by the garage entrance, which is about 9” higher than garage floor, into the house with the front metal door and right side of the wall and bathroom door all shattered in front! On my left, I saw my wife in (by kitchen stove) in total panic and my [XXX] mother- in- law shouting to my wife. “What happened?!”, and my [XXX] grandson crying and closing his ears from the loud sound! Instinctively, as I realized I would not be able to exit the vehicle from where it was lodged, I reversed the vehicle back into garage where I could come out. As I switched into reverse gear (which this vehicle requires you to press the brake to be able to switch from drive to reverse), the vehicle again just accelerated with force. This time, damaging the garbage can in the garage, left garage door vertical track, drywall and outside brick wall, as the brakes were not engaging. As I was driving, the infotainment screen went black and Apple CarPlay stopped playing. As this happened, the driver’s information screen still worked but changed to grey scale colors. After about 4 minutes of the infotainment screen being black, the driver’s info screen also went black. This continued for about one more minute when both screens rebooted on their own.

I was backing out of an outdoor shopping center slot located at the end by the curb. I had to attempt this three times due to traffic and another car that was also trying to back out. On my third attempt, I hit the curb with my passenger rear wheel. When I changed gear to move forward, the ID4 jerked violently three times. At this point my hands were on the wheel and my feet were not on either the accelerator or the brake. Immediately after the third jerk the engine revved up and car took off. I tried to brake but was flying over 2 curb hit the road and flew over 2 more curbs with plants in the middle. The braking did not stop the vehicle. Coming up over the last curb the vehicle hit a parked car sending backward and it hit 2 more vehicles. No one was injured, since the vehicles were empty. The police did come and wrote an incident report, but not a police report because in California since it was property only they do not generate a report. However, this could have been fatal since people were waking about the parking lot. There were not any warning lights or messages. It has not as yet been inspected by by anyone. The car is available for inspection at a collision center. I am not sure which component failed and why it accelerated, or did not respond to the brake, or deploy the air bag upon impact.

The defective/incomplete vehicle software occasionally causes an dangerous condition. The child safety lock for the back doors can disengage without driver input or knowledge. The software in the vehicle occasionally clears (or resets) customized driver settings because the software is defective/incomplete. One of these "driver settings" appears to be the engagement of the child safety lock. When the vehicle user software occasionally resets, the child safety lock can disengage without obvious notification to the driver. My intention is for the child safety lock to be always engaged. The child safety lock control is a touch button located on the driver door, which illuminates when engaged, and goes dark when disengaged. My four-year-old child has opened the rear door next to the child car seat. Luckily this was while the vehicle was stopped and the child was secured into the car seat, so the child could not exit the door at that time. It was at that time I realized the child lock system was off, although I have previously had it on and had not commanded it to shut off. The safety risk in this situation should be obvious.

On the morning of September 27, 2024 while stopped at a retail store in Wake Forest, NC, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 steering column module part #j764 failed without warning. The steering column locked up and would not unlock after many attempts. The vehicle’s drive systems were also impacted resulting in the drive units/gears to lock resulting in the car becoming inoperable until the unit is replaced. Contacted VW Customer Care on October 1 for repair assistance. At this time, VW believes consumers should be burdened with the cost to repair this failed critical component which is necessary for the car to function and operate.

The lane assist function on the vehicle routinely pulls the vehicle off the road when accelerating uphill. Driver has to fight with the steering wheel to keep it from being pulled out of the lane and off the road. This occurs regularly on clearly marked roads, both on freeways and two lane rural roads.

In May '23 VW Manufacturer sent a letter informing my car was subject to Recall 57J4, for door handle failure which can lead to doors opening while vehicle is moving. 7/25/2 I brought my car to Steven’s Creek VW in San Jose, CA, for several issues that needed repair, and asked them to test for Recall 57J4. They found the left rear door handled failed and needed to be replaced (see attached service record). The repair was not performed that day because the part needed to be ordered, as did several other parts. I planned to return once all parts were in; several months passed, with no parts coming in. By Jan '24 the car was having many more problems, so I brought it back to the original dealer I purchased it at: Santa Cruz Volkswagen, Santa Cruz, CA. During the course of my many repairs at Santa Cruz VW I informed them that the door handle safety recall repair was never performed (see attached 5/6/24 service record). The Service Advisor said Santa Cruz VW couldn't do the repair, because the replacement part was VIN specific and that Volkwagen Manufucturer wouldn't send the replacement part because Steven’s Creek VW dealer had already ordered the part, and had also noted in their computer system that they performed the repair - which is false. I never returned to Steven’s Creek VW after 7/25/23, and they never performed the repair for recall 57J4, even though it is incorrectly noted in their computer system as having been repaired. (Steven’s Creek VW has acknowledged that this information is incorrect.) I'm filing this complaint because I need help enforcing the requirement that the dealer perform the repair per the safety recall, on the basis that the information input into Steven’s Creek VW system is incorrect. To this date, the repair has still not been performed. Volkswagen the manufacturer needs to remedy this by supplying the Santa Cruz VW dealer with the part so that they can finally perform the repair.

Steering wheel has capacitive touch control for cruise controls and other options. While turning in corners or exiting from highways unknowingly capacitive controls are getting activated and it sets the speed to highway cruise speed limit or previous cruise speed, creating a panic situation. It is a safety issue and potentially crashes. I have avoided 10 different instances so far. It has to be recalled for this issue and fix has to be done for this.

"The used ones are a freaking steal right now once you factor in the $4k tax rebate and VW improved the certified warranty on electrics to 3/36k. I have a 2021 Pro S AWD w/Gradient and we are looking to actually trade a 2023 Taos SE 4Motion in for a 2022 Pro S AWD w/Gradient. I have had mine for 3 years \~25k miles and it is right at 4 years old with 40k on the clock. Pleased as punch with it, it was a little sketch at first with the original 2.1 software but the updates took care of the troubles there. I had a similar \~6k annual mileage use case like you where it was just a short commute to/from work then weekend runabout. That drastically changed and am now pushing \~30k miles annually, it is great for both short and long distance commuting. Comfort is superb on the freeway and Travel Assist makes the highway commuting a breeze. With your 6k annual you might need to charge 1x per week, when I had that similar annual mileage it was legit 1x per week - charge to 80% then run it down to 30% or so until the following week. Now I will say coming from a GTI don't believe the old commercial with Tanner Foust (see below) saying the ID.4 handles more like a hot hatch, it drives heavy because it is heavy. Very competent handling but hot hatch it definitely is not. Old ID.4 commercial"
"Great comparison! I really enjoyed the ID.4, just put down the deposit. I felt comfortable sacrificing some of the flashier features of the Tesla for something that seemed to be more in-line with what fits me and my family's needs."
"Yeah, the number reported by the app is super inaccurate, don't go by that. My car finished charging to 80% earlier this morning. The app right now is showing 130 estimated miles, however, the notification from the car when charging finished says "Charging session has ended. 06:07 AM EST with battery at 210 miles". That 210 miles estimate matches what the car is showing on the actual display, and it's also a pretty accurate range for 80%. Not sure what the bug is in the app. The notification it sends has the right estimate, but for whatever reason the number it shows on the main screen when you log in is way off. - Arial - Book Antiqua - Courier New - Georgia - Tahoma - Times New Roman - Trebuchet MS - Verdana Post Reply 2020+ Volkswagen ID Series News JoshP Aug 4, 2022 Volkswagen announces pricing for the 2023 ID.4 electric SUV"

"Anyone Interested in a Class Action Lawsuit Against Volkswagen? Hey everyone, I’m reaching out to see if there’s interest in starting a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen for the ongoing, unresolved issues with the ID.4 and potentially other models. My 2023 ID.4 has been an absolute nightmare. Within weeks of ownership, we noticed serious defects, and since then, it’s been in and out of the shop at least 28 times with over 100 documented issues. Some of the biggest problems include: **Braking system failures** – multiple repairs, still not fixed, going in again next week for **ANOTHER** brake booster replacement **Doors malfunctioning** – refusing to open or opening on their own (dangerous for passengers, especially kids!) **Software glitches** – Volkswagen refuses to arbitrate software issues, even though EVs are **essentially computers on wheels** **Air conditioning failure** – during extreme heat, leaving us stranded in dangerous conditions **Repeated failed repairs** – same fixes being done over and over with no resolution **Production facility shutdown** – Volkswagen **halted production** of the ID.4 in **September 2024**, raising serious concerns about overall quality control We even tried trading the car back in, and the dealership had the audacity to offer us a “deal” where we’d have to pay an additional $15,000 just to get a downgraded version of the same car! CAMVAP is failing consumers. Many of us have turned to the arbitration process, but it doesn’t cover software-related issues (which are a major problem with EVs), and the process is slow, ineffective, and biased toward the manufacturer. 🚨 It’s time to take action. 🚨 If you’ve had ongoing, unresolved issues with your Volkswagen ID.4, and you’re interested in exploring a class action lawsuit, comment below or DM me. Let’s hold Volkswagen accountable. We paid for a reliable vehicle, not a never-ending repair project. Tag anyone who might be interested, and let’s get this rolling."
