Buyer brief · 304 words

The 2023 Audi e-tron quattro is rated at 402 hp, 226 miles of EPA range and a 106 kWh battery, and a mid-pack composite means the records-and-test-drive call matters more than the headline.

Score read

A 65/100 makes this worth comparing, not chasing. The useful split is build quality score at 79/100 versus range and efficiency score at 38/100. Reddit threads cluster around software tech and owner satisfaction — verify both against the service records. If the seller cannot show recall completion, price that risk or move on.

Price context

Bring your own comps Pull current comps before negotiating

This trim started from $70,800 new. Used examples have come down since launch, but pricing varies by miles, condition, and how the model is moving right now; pull a current KBB Fair Purchase, an Edmunds True Market Value, or an active dealer listing for this exact trim, and anchor your offer there. Walk if the seller will not move off new-car-style pricing.

Gotchas

  • Serviceable Recall paperwork has to match the exact VIN.

Mitigation Use NHTSA and the automaker lookup, then require repair records instead of a verbal promise.

  • Built in Range is the easy place to overbuy this trim (38/100).

Mitigation Check your commute, winter margin, and fast-charge plan before you assume the EPA number fits your use.

  • Verify Current market pricing is not confirmed well enough for this trim.

Mitigation Compare KBB, J.D. Power, and live listings for the same trim before treating price as a buying signal.

Pre-purchase inspection

  • 1 Run the exact VIN through NHTSA and the automaker recall lookup before discussing price.
  • 2 Compare the dashboard range estimate with the EPA 226-mile rating after a full charge.
  • 3 Confirm how much of the 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty remains and whether it transfers.
  • 4 If road trips matter, run a short DC fast-charge session and watch whether speed tapers normally.
  • 5 Map your normal highway route and winter margin against the EPA range before you treat it as a road-trip car.

Campaign #26V240000

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2019-2024 Audi E-Tron and 2020-2024 Audi E-Tron Sportback vehicles. The fastener that connects the brake pedal and the brake booster may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake pedal to detach from the brake booster.

Brake pedal detachment can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2019-2026 vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. A software error may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

On at least two occasions, my car suddenly accelerated when I was trying to reverse from a parking spot. The acceleration was very sudden. I did not even have my foot on accelerator at the time. This is extremely scary. In one occasion, I did hit a passing car as my car accelerated. Fortunately no one was hurt (or killed!), but had damage to both the cars. Second time when this happened, fortunately I was able to stop it before it hit any car behind me. On internet there are many Audi E-tron owners have similar experience either while reversing or simply while trying to park the car - the car accelerates without any warning. NHTSA need to force Audi to recall these cars and make needed corrections and updates as needed to prevent any further disaster due to this issue.

Audi E-Tron (Q8) sudden unintentional acceleration caused a collision to stationary object while releasing brake on a turn. The accelerator was not touched while turning the steering wheel into the drive. It instead launched forward beyond the agreed 5 MPH and hit a tree. Causing significant damage to the vehicle’s front passenger wheel and hood. The airbags did not deploy nor did the “pre-sense” safety collision avoidance sensor attempted to stop the vehicle from hitting the object.

Vehicle malfunctioned and stopped in middle of highway with no warning. It forcefully braked to shutdown. Was able to restart car and drive away after a minute. Two days later it had emergency SOS warning on dashboard. Took vehicle in for diagnostic and repair. When pushing software update the module locked up and car would not start. Replaced module but not confident vehicle will not repeat random behavior. No data provided by Audi to make sure this was not trial and error corrections and that the vehicle is safe.

"- **Seating Position** \- I’m a tall guy, 6’4” and every car that I have ever owned, I’m always worried about overall comfort, headroom and seating position. I find the height of my 2022 Sportback to be just perfect for easy entry and exit from the vehicle. I do have my seat in the lowest position, but my seat back is more upright and have no issues with headroom even with having a sunroof. The many adjustments available with the contour massaging seats makes finding a comfortable driving position super easy. I also like the Exit feature and which is also a feature on the passenger side as well. Overall, seat comfort and driving position is excellent and love that the passenger side has all the same adjustments and features. That’s not the case with some other brands. - **Personalization** \- I really like that the e-tron has so many features and options that you can tailor to your driving experience based on your personal preferences. We have several drive select modes; you can save 4 favorites (radio stations or favorite car functions); you have the quick access button on the steering wheel you can customize; the virtual cockpit has several configurations possible to select from based on the driver’s needs for information. Other premium brands e.g. BMW or Mercedes probably offer similar ability to personalize your driving experience, but Audi has executed this very well in my opinion. It just feels like the engineers at Audi were thinking about the driver when designing this car, driving is a personal experience and each driver is different. The ability to personalize my driving experience was definitely lacking in my Tesla Model Y. - **Driving Experience** \- I think my e-tron Sportback is a fun car to drive! I now look forward to my daily commutes and just enjoying the driving experience. I like that it’s a heavy car, it just feels substantial but also can be very nimble and fun to drive on a twisty road (of course set in Dynamic Drive mode). I don’t plan on taking any long trips, but every time I get behind the wheel it just feels like the prefect road car for long trips. Comfortable, solid and very quiet. - **Features** \- just the features that I really like and find really cool: matrix headlights (awesome!); massaging seats (amazing!); 4 zone climate control; hands free hatch release and close!; driver assistance systems (very effective); dual charging ports (awesome!); interior lighting (way cool!)."

"New to Audi, former BMW Owner Long time bimmer driver, recently switched to Audi or "The dark side" as people in the bimmer community would say it 👍 I wanted to get my hands on a midsized luxury AWD EV SUV here in Northeast US and BMW has nothing to offer in this segment. After test driving Tesla and frankly hating it, I found myself looking at the Audi e-tron. Found a 2019 Prestige with some extra miles but in nearly mint condition and I am in love with it. The build quality, performance, power, trim and everything in between has far exceeded my expectations. I'm now thoroughly disappointed in BMWs EV offering and plan on staying in an Audi for a long time. Cheers!"

"Couple more things I like, after using the car for a few more weeks, including a long trip (750 miles each way): - The phone app can easily provide the energy usage data on a daily basis, which makes it easy for me to track my energy usage and efficiency trends. Something Tesla did not do! - Fast charging -- I knew that various YouTubers had claimed the e-tron had a good charging curve, but actually experiencing it on our recent trip was something else! Especially after coming from an older tesla with decidedly slower charging. "Lowest ever (but not bad) efficiency score I've just got my lowest ever efficiency score driving my 2022 Audi e-tron 55 on a long journey. I drove a total of 155 miles with a two-hour break at the mid point. (So 2 battery conditioning sessions) I started the journey on 97% battery, and when I got home I had 16% left. I drove at the speed limit everywhere, so in a 70 I was doing 70, 60 I was doing 60, etc. I drove in comfort mode with S power, with a fairly heavy right foot. It was night time the whole journey. I had my matrix LED lights on, heating at 23 degrees with the blower on 3, heated seats on for both front passengers, and we averaged an outside temperature of -2c. (It’s quite nippy in the UK currently🇬🇧) Oddly enough in the car it said I got 2.4, but in the app is and I got 2.3? Either way that’s 200 miles in the freezing cold, pitch black, Driving at 70mph in sport performance with comfort suspension, CarPlay and the music on , both heated seats on, temperature up high and so on. I just thought I’d post this for people that are concerned about the range on the e tron 55, I see so many posts about it all being doom and gloom and about how it can only get 160 miles in the winter in the UK, As you can see that really is not the case in the real world. If I had popped this in efficiency , and limited to 60mph when possible I probably could’ve added an extra 10-15% of this. This journey cost me about £4.50 😁"

"I regularly use remote setting of climate control before entering the car. This is especially useful now in the winter.
