The driver of the Tesla noted that Tesla's FSD Beta version was engaged, and "When (the Tesla) was in the tunnel, (the Tesla) moved from the #2 lane into the #1 lane and started slowing down unaccountably. When (the Tesla) was about 20 miles per hour, he felt a rear impact." In January 2023, I reviewed available Google map data at the approximate GPS location of the accident. (see video: [XXX] ). Multiple conflicting data layers corresponding to that location may have contributed to the accident if the FSD Beta-controlled vehicle referenced the same or similar map data. The ADAS may have read a road closure on the island surface above the tunnel at [XXX] as relating to the lower level of the tunnel, and the lane change and subsequent slowing of the vehicle described by the driver may have been in response to this map data anomaly. In early 2023, I made multiple attempts to recreate the error while driving a Tesla Model 3 with the then-current FSD Beta version engaged. I drove in both directions of the tunnel and observed no abnormal reactions in any lanes of the eastbound tunnel. In one instance on a Sunday at approximately the same time of day and GPS location as the [XXX] accident, while driving in one of the tunnel's upper-level centermost lanes in the westbound direction, an ADAS alarm was triggered, and the system advised that the driver should take over immediately. It did not automatically slow the vehicle or change lanes. I noted that both occurred when GPS Navigation routing information may have been referencing weekend and holiday data versus weekday commute hours data. Previously, I had observed a difference between weekday and weekend navigation routes into San Francisco. A subsequent retest in the westbound direction on a later Sunday at a different time of day did not trigger an alarm. We were pulling our car from 5th floor of a parking garage and as the car was coming down the ramp into the 4th floor, it accelerated itself to a high speed, hit another parked car, and came to a stop hitting concrete pillar in the garage. Our car was damaged severely and all the airbags got deployed, smoke came out it. We are still in shock from the incident and it was a traumatic experience for all 4 members of our family including two of our children. It would have been catastrophic had there been another person around or if something more had happened. Our car unexpectedly accelerated and none of the warnings worked. Tesla car usually gives us warning (a shrilling beeping noise) when an unexpected obstacle, be it another car or a trash can or a human, is within a short distance of the vehicle. This warning sound comes up even when no automatic driving feature is used. But on that day, the warning sound did not come and we think the vehicle may have malfunctioned. When we searched in the internet, we found many incidents of unexpected acceleration with Tesla Model 3.When we brought our concern to the insurance, we were asked to report to NHTSA. The car is now with insurance and the manufacturer has not looked into it as we haven’t informed them yet. The car was in excellent condition and there were no warning or failure lamps on before the incident. This warrants your attention and hence we are writing this to you. Please advise us the next steps and if we need to preserve the car to retrieve any data recorded in the vehicle. For the safety of other drivers and pedestrians, this needs to be thoroughly investigated. Kindly do the needful.

I BOUGHT THE TESLA BECAUSE OF ALL THE SAFETY FEATURES, NONE OF WHICH SEEMED TO WORK INCLUDING FAILURE TO NOTICE A LARGE VEHICLE IN FRONT, NOT STOPPING WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED, STARTING BY ITSELF IN THE PARK MODE, AND THE DATA SCREEN GOING BLANK EXCEPT FOR THE MESSAGE ABOUT SAFETY SYSTEMS BEING OFF.
My wife was cleaning the interior and wiped the center main display of her model 3. While doing that somehow she managed to Turn the heat on set the fan/temp controls to HI and popped the front frunk to open. When she exited and closed all doors, it looks like the heat kept running at max for more than 24 hours in the garage. When I entered the garage it was hot in there and inside temp of the car was at 87f. Not sure if there was a fire hazard due to heaters over heat. Just wanted to bring this to your attention.

The newer versions of FSD do not allow driver control of the max speed. The current versions allow you to set a maximum speed with a scroll wheel on the steering wheel.

Car proceeded to shut itself down while in the middle of the freeway, causing me to go slower than traffic and put me in danger as cars behind me had to swerve or lane change to avoid me as I tried to pull off to the shoulder. These forced shutdowns from incorrect 'nag fails' are causing safety issues. Nag failures should not forcibly shut the car down. Not sure if this is being enforced by NHTSA, or why Tesla is choosing to disable their auto steer or FSD when drivers are detected to be failing nags - nags should be there to help drivers, and potentially the nag data/cab video can be used after the fact should a user failing nags be involved in an accident for insurance dispute resolution, but shutting the cars down themselves is causing issues.

The braking was aggressive and I now have concerns that it might've given me minor whiplash as it was so sudden. I have pictures of where I parked. I could barely steer, and the computer monitor stated that the brakes were turning off, and other parts, like cameras, were losing functionality. I pulled over into the local park. I had to go through the app. My dad came and we found a Youtube video that said to walk out of the car to let it restart. Looks like it happened to another owner. My Model 3 failed at under 50,000 miles and gave out a series of failure warnings. It was unable to drive anymore and steering became stiff and unresponsive. In researching this I see it is a common issue with hundreds of thousands of cars affected. And the NHTSA has an open investigation into it. Tesla as usual is denying the problem exists.

I keep receiving an alert: “Front Passenger Safety Restraint System Fault”. I contacted Tesla and they informed me that my airbag sensor needs to be recalibrated and may jeopardize a child sitting in the seat if the airbag is deployed. In a private parking lot, within line of sight and ample time to respond to problem I used Tesla Smart Summon. Instead of taking an obvious route through the parking lot, it narrowly hit a parked car, then proceeded to drive over a parking barrier and into a wooded field towards me and a crowded food truck area. I was unable to cancel the feature in time to stop the car from the collision as it accelerated too fast and without any initial signs of an issue. Even after canceling through the app, the car tried to continue for a brief period. If anyone was in the area or we were closer we could have been hit. Tesla replaced the cameras but claimed no responsibility for damages, citing I was "in control". There were no warning lamps or indicators of any defects before the incident. My car did a Phantom break while I was driving on President George bush Turnpike E at the Dallas North tollway exit. I was taking the exit with in the speed limit of 40 miles per hour and was keeping the distance from the car in front. Suddenly the car did an automatic break and car slow down significantly. I got hit from behind and had damage to the bumper and trunk. Emergency break feature went out and an alert came. It is very concerning that the car stops in the middle of road by itself and being hit from behind. I would like an answer from Tesla. I have the dash cam footage of the accident

At 04/12/2024 7:17pm EST the alert "Steering assist reduced. Steering may require increased effort" appeared while driving and remained for the duration of the drive. In the event log this was listed as "UI_a020 Steering assist reduced". The alert disappeared after the car was parked for a while and restarted. This alert also occurred multiple times earlier in the year (and mentioned when the car was brought in for an unrelated service issue) but I had not recorded the date and time so Tesla was not able to capture a log. It eeappeared on two occasions after 4/12, including once on 4/19/2024 at 6:47pm EST. In some, but not all instances, the steering wheel did require considerably more force to turn after the alert appeared. I scheduled a service request with Tesla on 4/13/2024 (for a service date of 4/24/2024) and received a repair estimate on 4/18/2024 with a remote diagnosis. The repair suggested was a steering rack replacement. I dropped off the car at the service center on 4/24 but because of a shipping delay on the part, the repair was completed Tuesday 4/30. I am attaching the initial estimate as well as the final invoice from Tesla.

"Tesla Model 3 - 5 Years Later: Real Costs, Range, and Ownership Now that I’ve officially hit 5 years to the day with my 2021 Model 3 Standard Range Plus, I thought I’d do a quick, statistics-based review of that time period, focused on real-world cost, usage, and long-term ownership. During these 5 years, I’ve driven 27,066 miles, averaging about 5,500 miles per year, with the caveat that I wasn’t driving much at all during the first year (<1,500 miles). Original EPA range was rated at 263 miles, and the car is currently estimating 211 miles range at 100% charge. I charge mostly at home or work with level 2 charging, and generally keep the charge state between 10% and 90%. The car is pretty good at accurately estimating range down to 0%, but in real-world driving, I typically get about 160 to 180 miles of range between charges. # Cost Breakdowns: **Charging = $3,762.59** Mostly charging at home and work, with less than 20% on Tesla Superchargers. For the last couple years, I’m averaging around $1,000 a year on charging costs, which is about 1/3 of the fuel costs with my previous car (about $3,100 per year in premium gas). I took a few road trips in 2024 and 2025, and the cost of Supercharging the entire trip was roughly equivalent to an efficient gas vehicle. **Maintenance = $297.80** Most of the cost was for cabin air filter and windshield wiper replacements by Tesla, as well as a camera glass cleaning. I had the left rear light assembly and the two side repeater camera assemblies replaced under warranty. **Upgrades = $6,910.98** Most of this cost is the suspension upgrades, window tinting, HomeLink adapter, and floor mats. In 2025, I purchased the Mountain Pass Performance Comfort Coilover suspension kit, camber arms, and skid plate, as well as spacers (20mm rear, 15mm front), all installed at P3X Performance in Temple City. I know my commute to work takes 10% in the spring and summer and maybe 12% in the winter (possibly more if I preheat it unplugged. ) Honestly after a few months range won’t matter even on longer journeys, just let the car figure it out"

"Model 3 Front USB Ports Continually Stop Working My front USB ports basically don't work at all now. I had zero issues with my front USB ports until I took my car in to have the HW3 chip installed. There seem to be several posts with people having issues with their front USB ports. Has anyone had success with resolving this issue? Specifics below: **Car and Accessories Info** Tesla Model 3, Dual Motor Performance, September 2018. BlackVue front and rear cameras with BlackVue backup battery. Flash Drive USB Hub Nomad Wireless Charger \- Gen 1 **History** Phase 1 - Car had zero problems from September 15th, 2018 until May 7th, 2020. Running the Teslacam would prevent my car from going to sleep, so my vampire drain was at what I'll call "Rate V." Phase 2 - Took car in for HW3 upgrade on May 6th, 2020. Upon pickup the next day, the front USB ports were not working. During this phase, restarting the car would make the ports work again about 75% of the time, but the ports would stop working after 5 to 10 minutes of operation. From monitored battery vampire drain, I could tell the car was going to sleep now because the USB ports would cut out, killing the Teslacam, so the car would go to sleep. We will call this drain level "Rate X," which was *less* battery drain than Rate V. Rear USB ports always work fine, even when the front ports were not working. Tested ports with multiple cables and items. It isn't what's plugged into the ports, it's the ports that don't work. They don't even provide electricity. I booked a mobile service visit. Mobile service came out but didn't have the correct "hub" part to repair it. Said they'd reach out to schedule another appointment. They didn't for the next week, so I scheduled another one. Phase 3 - 2nd Mobile service repair on June 3rd, same guy as before. Invoice reads, "Verified customer concern. Replaced front center console USB hub. Verified proper operation." "Jul 25, 20207194565 Tesla newbie here. Just wanted to check if Model 3 Standard range owners are able to charge their batteries up to the rated 50 KWh. Our 2020 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range (7 months old, < 3K miles) seems to display that its full at around 44.5 KWh. As a result, the observed range is rather low. In California winters, I am unable to complete a 120 mile roundtrip (seat warmers but no heater running) without stopping at a Supercharger on the way. "I sold my Tesla after one year (an honest review) I bought a Tesla Model 3 last year and I just sold it (well, in Jan) It was an AWD LR. Over 30,000 miles on it. What I liked about the car: * Acceleration * Silence while driving * Not having to deal with transmissions/shifting * Comfort of the interior - seats felt nice on very long road trips * The software updates: car did not have Netflix/Hulu when I bought it * Sound system is fantastic * Voice navigation/song selection worked very, very well * Big beautiful screen that never lagged * One pedal driving * Not having to deal with sales people What I really didn't like: * Glitchy shit * Backup camera - weird colors, weird lighting, lags * Bluetooth calling - it worked, they broke it, it worked again, they broke it in December LOL * Auto wipers - totally useless * Lack of real blind spot monitoring (doesn't work almost at all) * Lack of cross traffic alert * Self parking sucks * Auto high beams suck * Phantom breaking on Autopilot sucks Overall, though: **Drivetrain:** 10/10 **Quality:** 6/10 (little more weighting here) **Overall:** 7.5/10 **So, after spending the last 3 months of test driving cars in anticipation of this sale, what am I going to get...** A *2021 Tesla Model S*. HUH **Let me explain:** You see, it's like going from an iPhone to something shitty like a Blackberry. I test drove literally dozens of cars. BMWs, Audis, Mazdas, etc. I test drove all kinds of cars, with all kinds of powertrains and performance levels ranging from $30,000 to $90,000. No matter what OEM, I'd leave the dealership with the same thoughts: * "God that transmission jerking is freaking awful - feel like I'm waiting for clutch engagement and then downshifting at higher speeds" * "Man it's awful listening to that exhaust" * "It sucks having to keep my foot in the brake" * "Wow - the MPG numbers are pretty crappy - I'm going to have to pay hundreds in gas each month" * "The screen is so tiny and laggy, how the hell can anyone see anything on this thing" * "You mean I have to connect my phone for media and I just can't request a song" * "I can feel the engine shaking while holding the steering wheel" * "Damn these dealers are trying to screw me with nitrogen filled tires and fake paint protection BS" * BTW\^\^\^I was nearly ready to buy a couple of cars (glad I didnt) but the pure amount of BS from car salesman made me think buying a Tesla and putting them out of business was worth it alone. Bottom line - once you drive something so game changing like a Tesla - it's incredibly difficult to go back. It really feels like you are driving old news, something that's outdated. I will say, I've considered repurchasing a Model 3 instead of an S, but I would need to wait until there was enough of a difference for it to be worth it.
