While traveling at highway speed on Interstate 95, the vehicle experienced a complete and sudden loss of propulsion. The vehicle would not respond to the Vehicle Restart function. The driver was able to safely pull to the shoulder from the right lane. The vehicle was towed to a Rivian service center, where technicians identified a low-voltage event matching a known Rivian engineering investigation. Rivian confirmed no current repair exists and that engineering is actively working on software improvements. The vehicle was returned unrepaired after 13 days. Rivian also replaced the 12V battery under warranty at a prior service visit in July 2025 for a related electrical system defect. Two field service actions (FSAM-1507, FSAM-1794) have also been performed on this vehicle.

The mobile tech doesn't feel this is repairable but Rivian won't take responsibility for it. They have denied my BBB claim and I am pursuing a lemon lawyer.

The horn no longer works. Mine and other’s safety are at risk because I have no way to relay hazards while driving.the issue has been ongoing and dealer has not reached back out. The component has not been inspected. No warning lights or messages.

"2+ Years and 27,000 miles I have an early VIN R1T. After more than 2 years (March, 2022) and 27,000, I thought someone might wonder what long (ish) term ownership looks like. Put simply, the Rivian R1T is the best vehicle I have ever owned, driven or ridden in. That includes: BMW, Tesla, Bentley, Subaru, Honda, Toyota (180,000 miles on that one), Mercedes, and Ford. The R1T has gone on long west coast road trips to visit national and state parks. It has been overlanding through coastal mountains. We go to the mountains to ski. We trailer motorcycles to remote areas. One of my kids is a rower so we are constantly dealing with piles of wet and dirty crap. Pets and people are in and out a lot. Even with above average abuse, the interior remains immaculate. The gear tunnel is so practical and useful. I thought it was a gimmick at first, but is so much more. The seats are the most comfortable car seats especially on long drives. The general build quality continues to impress me. Oh and the truck is so much fun to drive and quick off the line. My only gripe is the charging pad and dirt trap in the console. That is a small price to pay for a vehicle I am happy to get in every day."
"Driving with confidence! I can’t express enough how Rivian nailed the estimated miles upon arrival when traveling. I had 4 stops on my trip, same with the model y. I was driving 85 mph for most of the trip and I always arrived with what they estimated or 8 miles more. I also had the dirtbikes in the bed and still got accurate numbers. There were so many times I would drive the model y and my estimated arrival to the supercharger station percentage would continuously decrease and anxiety would set in. I would have to change my driving habits. Not with Rivian. Excellent job with this! Charging I choose to use only Tesla superchargers. I bought the A2Z level 3 charger, and that thing worked like a charm. It was instant in connection. When I take trips from nj to Nashville and vice versa it typically takes me 12 hr 30 min with a gas car. With the model y it takes me 14 hr to 14 hr 30 min. With the Rivian it took me 14 hr 30 min. So I didn’t really notice a difference between model y and Rivian. Having two dogs and a 2/3-year-old, the vehicles would always be done charging before we were ready to leave, so for me the added time works."

I've had no issues with bugs, although I know there have been a lot of reports, and then there was the infotainment brick issue. "Ventilated seats were amazing on the 800+ mile drive. It was a really hot day and the sun was beating throughout the drive, the ventilated seats felt so cold I thought my back was wet. But that’s where it ended for the ventilated seats, the day after I got home from the drive, the ventilated seats were maybe 5 percent of the power they used to have. I can no longer feel it on my back. The legs work maybe 20 percent. This is on max setting. I had to go to the service center for them to install the tonneau cover and I brought up the ventilated seat issue. The tech right away said yea I can’t feel it on the back. After checking the 2 demo vehicles and the loaner they gave me, there was no difference in the ventilated seats. They all felt like mine. I think this is a major issue Rivian needs to address. The service manager said they can warranty the seats out but I don’t think this issue has been addressed. If I get new seats I’ll end up with the same problem again. This is an issue owners will need to escalate in order for there to be a change. This issue is a great disappointment that it has not been addressed. The tech manager said he would escalate it and follow up with me, but I haven’t heard anything and doubt I will."
"If I’m being honest Few things, as I honestly regret trading in my Tesla for the Rivian R1T for the following reasons: - Autopilot/FSD: Rivian highway assist + doesn’t work as great and is limited to highways only. Which I find a decent amount of roads not able to start highway assist - Service: I’ve had to take in for the same issue and each time they make me wait 3+ months due it not being a “safety concern”. Frustrating cause it’s the same issue I’ve taken it in for 2x times already (along with 4 other things). To top it off, my tweeter blew so I’ve been driving for 3 months with even worse audio quality. (I have messaged numerous times about getting bumped up but to no avail.) - Auto Heated Seats/Wheel: Honestly it’s a small thing but makes a huge difference. Miss not having to think about it. - Customer Service: I’m still waiting on my adapter, but am penalized for not buying after they decided to prioritize new deliveries. As they take a while to get back to you, just put in an order and try to reach out the guide Gretchen after the first couple of days (they barely respond). - Charging Efficiency: Not as well optimized as a Tesla, it’s just not as worked out as a Tesla. Also bigger battery capacity = longer charging. - Rattles/Noise (NVH): Lots of door, speaker, and suspension rattles - Software Updates: Not as flushed out as Tesla and takes like 3x longer to update. (Not a big deal, just don’t start it if you’re in a hurry) I expected some of these issues going into it (with Rivian being a new company), but debating whether I should have took the risk. Please Rivian people don’t hate me for being honest. I’m trying to be unbiased and I’m not saying anything that other car reviewers have said before. Especially for a $80k truck, Rivian should prioritize their existing customer versus doing the bare minimum. It’s a good truck but the Rivian service and quality let it down. Just be warned and maybe Rivian can help me get bumped up in service and get adapter! Wanted to give an honest review and maybe could help someone on the fence know what they’re getting into! "Well this isn't a good feeling after owning the truck for 1 week to have all my sensors, cameras, LiDaR, air suspension, crash avoidance, traction control, ABS, stuck in conserve mode, etc for the second time. It's sketch while on snow and the suspension suddenly stops working and sinks to the bump stops ?. Basically the truck is in analog mode and all the safety systems are offline. Hard reboot and console reboot doesn't work. Letting the truck go into sleep fixed it once. It didn't have these issues until the latest firmware update 2024.43.01. How did this OTA get approved for production? Did they not do pre-production functional testing first? Maybe I should work for Rivian, I use to do firmware functional testing for hardware devices ?
